Wait for Black Mesa. Its gonna be HL1 with the HL2 graphics and physics engine.
I don't know, that remains to be seen. So far, it's looking less and less like the game it's trying to copy. It seems as though the team is taking more and more liberties as their little pet project progresses, and not necessarily for the better.
They are changing it? What are the changes you have seen?
Yeah, they're changing quite a few things. For starters, the entire original music and voice-over soundtracks were tossed by the way side. It was part licensing, as they'd have to ask Valve for permission to use them, but it was mostly just the dev team's choice as they wanted to make their own sounds. (adding to their growing arrogance, they said they could do better than Valve did and didn't even bother asking permission to use the original soundtracks) They've also begun changing the weapons. They've removed some and added a few of their own design. Then there's the changes to the maps. While most have remained pretty faithful to the original game, the dev team has started adding their own maps in place of some they thought "didn't belong" in the original game. Now, I'm not entirely certain how much they've actually changed and to what degree, but from what I've heard from beta-testers and others that have either worked with or talked with the dev team, there's still a fair amount being altered.
EDIT: As my anticipation for Black Mesa Source wanes, I have however had my interests piqued by the announcement of another mod team working on a full Source conversion of Half-Life: Opposing Force. From the look of things, what they're doing is what the Black Mesa team started out doing. Actually recreating the original game, from scratch, but remaining faithful to everything in the original, including the soundtrack.
