Wow, this looks really awesome. I've played Half-Life 2 but never the original. I know people will think me vain but I just couldn't get past how terrible it looks now. It'll be good to understand Half-life 2's story better, and to play the game that started it all.

It looks great, to bad I'll most likely never play it since my computer is a piece of junk.
Mine pretty terrible too. This game probley won't look that different from the original on my PC thinking about it...

Well I never played the original, so I may give it a go. Then again, I haven't found a remake of anything I like yet, so I could probably save myself some cash and get the original.
Hmmm decisions, decisions...

Is it just a remake of Half-Life or does it have the expansions?

I ask as I made my way through the game in less than 4 hours on my first play through.
Just the original Half-Life; I've heard that the Black Mesa devs apparently don't consider the expansions (or the Blue Shift upgraded models and textures) to be "canon" for some stupid reason. Not that I'm complaining - it would be awesome if they remade the expansions, but then it would take even longer than it already has (this mod was started 4 years ago, and I will eat my hat if it comes out earlier than Episode 3).

I don't for a second believe that you played through the original Half-Life in less than 4 hours on your first play through, though - Half-Life is a very long game, especially by today's standards. Maybe you're thinking of Blue Shift?
Nope, it's the real deal.
Never played any of the expansions.

Besides 4 hours isn't really that unbeleaveable, I've seen it done in 1 hour.

I'm lookin' forward to it. It's been years since I played the original HL and I don't really remember everything that happened. With HL2: Ep. 3 coming sometime "soon," and how it's supposedly the end of the HL story line, it would be neat to be able to play through the whole story with nice graphics.

"Besides 4 hours isn't really that unbeleaveable, I've seen it done in 1 hour."

It's very unbelievable, the original HL is at least 20 hours of gameplay.
From the very start, an hour in, you'd probably be around the bit where things are going wrong...

HL is about the same length as HL2, which Valve regards as 30hours of gameplay. Done in 20 yes, done in 4 or less, no...

Try to think before you post.

The mod's free; you just need a Steam account and client and pony up for a Source engine-based game. You can buy Half-Life: Source on Steam for USD9.99.

I have heard talk of this Steam thing you speak of. I'll have to check it out, I'm fairly new to the interwebs you see. :p

Downside? I've already played it.
Upside? Old shooters suck (it's true, even if they were the best thing ever "back in the day").
Counterpoint: Deus Ex.
I can't really invalidate you, having never played Deus Ex. But I do assume you played it when it was still rather new. I also assume that a person like me who hasn't played it when it was new wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much as you did.

A very good point. However, I truly believe that Deus Ex is timeless and appeals to old and new fans alike. I still get the same thrill when I play it now as I did back then. I'd be really interested to see what you think of it.

The expansions aren't considered canon because they're the work of a different developer and contain quite a few inconsistencies with the original game's storyline. Marc Laidlaw, the series' writer, confirmed that Valve don't consider the expansions canon.

False. I just picked it up last year (around 6 or 7 years after its release) and it's probably the best game I have ever played.

In the offchance that that wasn't a joke, yes, you completely have to. Steam had a kind of rough launch, but now it's pretty brilliant.

And to all those who are asking about a 360 port. It's a mod, not made by valve. The last time a mod came out for 360 without being first bought by a dev like valve was never, as far as I know. If you want it, you'll need to get valve to buy it. Please wait till we've got it for free though :p. Honestly though, this mod is the most likely of all the mods I've seen to be bought by valve.

A HL re-make? OK, those who know me well know I hate the first HL a lot but a re-make with a chance to do things better, now this could be good but its fan-made isent it? I think I'll give it a miss especaly seeing as most of it will be the same, unless its several miles shorter and dosent play so fidly I'm not realy intrested.

What's wrong with fan made mods?
Nothing but most fans want the things they like to stay the same so I'm expecting it to be a copy/paste dealie with better graphics, and half the fun with mods is changing stuff. If I get the chance to play it start-to-finish I might change my thoughts but until then.....
