On a side note, did anyone understand the shield world, Onyx?
Its from the book "Ghosts of Onyx."

Maybe I'm stupid, but I didn't really understand the book.
I would really like Bungie to expand on that storyline with Halo:Chronicles.

this whole halo debate is getting tangled in the multiplayer and lets face it the developers spent more time working on that than any other aspect of the game including a cohesive story. i think the fact that halo's biggest draw is still being debated as to weather or not it's "good" says all i need to hear about it. the game is fun and i look forward to any future game by bungie as a potentially fun game but nothing they've done is groundbreaking and i don't imagine it ever will be. personally i'm just tired of the swag and unecisary extra promotional crap they've used to sell a medicore game.

Let me put my argument this way, in the last 24 hours, over 900,000 people have played a game on Halo 3 (looking at the Bungie.net Statistics) now a game that is Bad, or even slightly unpopular would have no-where near that many people playing it, and that's only online!

And the next game by Bungie? i've got a sneaking suspicion they're going to give Marathon a re-make or prequel, apparently the first Marathon Game was set about 100 years after the end of Halo 3, which would make sense, considering there are umpteen numbers of references througout the series.

That, or Bungie are going to go back to making RTS games, now that they're free of Microsoft's tyranny.

As to what Bungie's next game is, well, take a look at their job requirements [http://www.bungie.net/jobs]. A love of combat on the high seas? A penchant for Piracy on the Briny Deep? Hmmm... [http://www.bungie.net/images/News/InlineImages2007/pimpposter01.jpg]

The game always seems to get hit by flak from the -savvy- gaming community-- presumably because it is popular, and by extension is totally uncool (just like hip-hop and Dane Cook). But honestly, I don't see what everyone is griping about.
To me it's hilarious that those people are always talking about FPSes. Not Civilization. Not SimCity. Not Railroad Tycoon. Not Europa Universalis. No--other FPSes is where people get snooty.

It always reminded me of a Bud drinker looking down on a Miller drinker. It's like, dude--the whole category you're talking about is the bottom end of the sophistication barrel anyway. Just enjoy FPSes and American mega-brewery beer for what they're meant to be: refreshing fun best enjoyed among friends with plenty of wings and nachos.
DING! You nailed it. That's one of the biggest issues I have when reading though forums. (aside from trying to figure out what strange attraction I have to reading forum whining.)
People all think that they are professional game reviewers trying to impress the rest of us with their l33tn33s. Just play the games for fun! FPS games need not have a deep and involving story. (pointing at Serious Sam) So long as I get to use big guns to kill lots of stuff, I'm pretty happy with my FPS. Halo 3 was pretty fun. It was even better playing it through with my fiance on co-op (miracles do happen! How you like that snow, Satan?!)So, just play 'em and enjoy 'em!
Also, consider the following: Did you buy the game or pay to rent it? For most, yes unless you borrowed it from a friend in which case you STILL played it! All the way through! Microsoft wins! Their over-hype plan won out in the end didn't it? Complain though you might, you still played the game. You (or your friend.. or your chosen rental method) still bought the game and so validated the hype. My guess would be that 2 years from now, if Bungie released a Halo 4, we would see the same people going onto the same forums expounding upon what crap it was... after they *paid* to buy and play the game of course...

I for one am interested in what Bungie will be doing next. Halo was drawn out over 3 games when a real ending for Halo 2 would have finished up the series on a much more satisfying note. I haven't beaten the single player of Halo 3, because the SP game has gone downhill in every game. However, Halo 3 is one of the few online games on the console that I enjoy somewhat, COD4 and TF2 being gimped as they are. I also started playing Halo: CE on the PC again, and have been having a lot of fun. There is definitely some skill involved, and I find it more tactical than true old-school PC shooters like Unreal, or nostalgic newer games like Saurbraten.

And on top of it, they all seem to think they're Yatzee.

Who *wouldn't* want to be able to go off like that? To be that quick and snarky even when you like something is a real gift. Also, is sarcasm built into Brit accents? The same rants spoken by the same voice but with an Yank accent would just not be as funny.

Well said and done tiredinnuendo. I was just gonna get on and say that i don't particularly dislike Halo. It's not like it's a terrible game, and admittedly I've played far worse. But it's not the paragon of shiny gaming perfection that it has become to be known as. The single player is a great meh, and the multi player that everyone croons about isn't exactly life changing either. You have one of two choices with Halo multi player: playing with "serious" Halo players, and the subsequent rape of your self respect that will ensue; or playing with the average Halo player, and having a 13 year old kid spam sticky grenades while telling Chuck Norris jokes.
In conclusion I'll send you off with a quote from Yahtzee. "Everything it does has been done before and done better." It's okay, but it's certainly not the messiah that everyone makes it out to be.

I still get the impression that people who actually like Halo 3 have never played another shooter in their lives. When I play shooters on my PC, for example, I get to pick whatever server I want, filter out gametypes and maps that I don't like, and install all kinds of cool mods that extend the lifespan of my games by months or more. I have a large of field of view, a framerate that actually climbs above 30, and mouse to aim with, and I don't even have to pay extra to play multiplayer! So someone explain to me what Halo brings to the table, considering it is totally outclassed by TF2 according to any technical measurement you care to apply?

I am 90% sure this is right (I know the halowars bit was posted but not sure about next)

THAT Bungie sold their rights to halo... to Peter Jackson and his game company (yes he owns one), also he's making the MOVIE about it... (Also a World of Warcraft movie (Not from Peter jackson) that will be based mainly on the wars before WoW was releasedb ut after WC3)
I am nearly positive it is true but can't remember where from

It was weird seeing half the people here didn't know that ensemble was making halo-wars... hmm... but as for halo and bungie they have parted their ways
I registered just to post this and being annoyed seeing alot of misconceptions on other threads that hung out and took a while to be corrected by someone ^.^

Phantom do oyu mean DejaVu with the special e?

edit: Btw wif TF2 picking options etc. most 360 games you only get a vague outline and no server list so your pointing at xboxlive not halo, cod4 on 360 it searches for oyu while computer you get the servers, and you pay to play online for halo not coz it goes to bungie but it goes to xbox/live to maintain its services, searching servers etc,
