The crunch will come down to the indicidual. Is the experience you will get from this game worth the $40 to buy it. Some will say yes, some will say no, I say I don't have the luxury of choice because the turds aren't releasing it for the PC.
My problem is that the experience I could buy for $40 is already sitting on my shelf.

As for why can't you just go back and play the original. I have a 360, a PS3, a Game Cube, PS2, and a XBox. My T.V. can only have three hooked up at a time, and that's the PS2, PS3, and 360. If I want to play a XBox game, I have to pull my T.V. away from the wall, untangle and then unplug the right cords, plug in the new cords, and then put everything back. By the time I've done all that, the urge to play an old game has usually passed. Is it a lazy excuse? Yes, but it's my reason.
You do realize you can play Xbox games on your 360, right?

You realize that the 360 can emulate Halo 1, right? It's not perfect, and I always play on the oXbox I have hooked up, but it's not terrible, either.

Same here. Hell, I'm looking at it right now. But the new is definitely incentive enough for me, and many many others, to buy it.

I get your reasoning as a "not to buy it" standpoint, but I don't know, to me it feels like you kind of have something against the game. When it comes right down to it, it's an amazing deal. Halo's gameplay still stands today as a shining example of "fun". I enjoy the campaign way more than Reach's, and many enjoy it way more than ANY other Halo campaign.

Honestly, it just makes sense from a business perspective to do something like this.

Not at all. Like I said, I own the game, and it's great, but as I said, when I saw the gameplay video of the Halo: CEA Silent Cartographer level, my mouth dropped because it was the exact same gameplay I've already had and played for 10 years. The fact that they would give players the option to make it look exactly the same as well made my head explode, because at that point, it really is spending money to buy something you already own.

My 2 cents
I'm strange when it comes to gaming.
When I beat a game I'm usually done with it.
Thats how I feel about the new halo 1 remake. I already beat it. Time to move on to the next game.
So I have no Intrest In it.

Its rare if I play a game more than once.

Except for the millions more that play Halo now that never owned, or possibly never played, Combat Evolved.

Halo's fanbase hasn't stayed the same. It has grown by millions. There are plenty of people that could have never played the first one, only played it over a friends house, or got rid of/lost their old copy and regretted it.

And, as in my case, there are many that simply want to see it in widescreen, HD glory with an updated look and nice little extras.

I mentioned that in my first post. This would be a good opportunity for people who never played Halo 1 to get it if they want.

But me, who's already played it to death, updated graphics (which I don't even think are that good, particularly the terrain textures) is not enough to make me want to buy a game I've already had for 10 years.

And again, the idea that anyone would want to deliberately buy Halo: CEA and then set the graphics to the old 2001 blows my mind.

As it stands, I probably won't buy it. The only reason I'm not playing Halo: CE right now is because I'm stuck on Truth and Reconciliation, and the graphics update seems to just be a sharper version of the already very bearable original graphics. But, hey, it's Halo. I love Halo.

Although the Reach maps might be enough to push me over the edge. I do loves me some Reach.

Every year I play through Ocarina of time, Majora's Mask, Wind waker, and any other Zelda titles handy once. And it never stops being fun.

Granted, I only paid for them twice. (collector's edition gamecube disc because the N64 is extinct)

I...

*looks back*

... hm.

My apologies. I think it really is time for me to sleep.

So, moral of the thread is, it's a bad (nay, terrible, horrible) purchase for those who care not about graphics or lore and already own the game. But it is a good buy for those that have never played it, lost their copy, or just freakin' love Halo.

Sound about right?

Just those who've never played it before, I'd say, actually.

Even for people who really care about the story, I don't think a few walls of text is a good foundation on which to buy a game.

I guess if you're really into graphical upgrade, a graphic upgrade which in itself isn't really spectacular, Halo CEA could be for you, but I think that the identical gameplay will make the game grow old faster than your being dazzled by the new graphics.

How can you even comment on the graphics without playing the game?

I think you're mixing up stylized graphics with poor graphics.

I don't see your point at all; i wish to play this game as i believe Halo 1 was the best... a boost in graphics and the ability to once again play again is nice.

Ofcourse it's a cash grab, because they need to bloody make money some how. The f**king tooth fairy doesn't decide who makes games, it's you buying certain games and whatever seems to make money. idiocy.

I'm quite suprised at myself, in that I completey agree with all that, but, somehow I just don't care.

Normally I'd immediately recognise what they're doing, and go around on forums bitching about it and advising my friends to stay the hell away from it. But I'm not, because I fucking love Halo CE. I don't really care if it's a cash grab, I just want more of that great game from 10 years ago to play, the one which had a decent campaign and a story which didn't bore me to death, not the rest of the pitiful excuse for a series.
And, on top of that there's a completely different multiplayer going along with it, just about the only thing Halo CE had big problems with.

I'll probably grab it eventually, and I know I'm a bit of an asshat for doing it, but if it's fucking fun who cares?

First off, again, nooot a wall of text. There's going to be quite a bit, and all of it video and voice acted. They aren't half-assing it. And if you knew Halo lore and the fans of it well, you'd get why that could make it completely worth it.

Now, as for me, the gameplay? I love it. I love it a lot. Halo: CE is my favorite campaign in the series except for ODST (I realize I'm in the minority on that one). And a lot of people agree.

Personally, I think the gameplay is the part of CE that aged the best.

EDIT: Scratch that, the gameplay is the thing that aged the SECOND best. The music is what aged the best. Ah, Halo music :)

I have a feeling they will release them separately. It'd make good business sense. They'd hit a whole other market. I also get the feeling they would make it only 20$. 7 maps for the price of 6! Ugh... if anything, I'd be pissed about how much they charge for maps :p
If they released the maps and the game separately, then would make more sense and I'd have less of a problem. I'd still have problems with the game of course, but at least then I could get the maps without having to re-buy a game I already own.
You're assuming people already own this title, this point has already been made. Plenty of people haven't played this game before and having the ability to see the contrast between the two is great. Not everyone is you, and you're still getting promised content, i don't see the problem.

... What... the... fuck...

Ok, dude, graphics are the only thing you CAN comment on about a game before playing it. You can look at screen shots. You can look at videos. You can see the graphics. Doesn't take a genius to judge graphics without playing the game.

After all, I haven't played Skyrim or Battlefield 3, and I think those games look amazing.

Also, no, he isn't mixing anything up like that. That... that just doesn't make sense.

Then i can't see how it's 'between halo 2 and 3'

It's built on the reach engine, it's somewhat stylized but other than that i believe it looks as good as reach. I really can't see how it looks even close to an original xbox title.

You don't receive a comprehensive looks at graphics, though, at all.

OK, this is what I meant by it seeming you had some vendetta against CEA. I already told you why.

They've added things to the lore, they've added online co-op, the game is now in HD with incredibly improved graphics. Plus, the seven maps for Reach it comes with.

These are the reasons many, many people are buying it. It may not be enough for you, but for me and many others it is.

At this point I'm just repeating myself.
