in games like oblivion and halo they actualy show possible ways to pick locks
What a load of bullshit. You don't just keep pushing a pin up and down until it's slow enough to lock it in place IRL. Having never played Mass Effect, I can't comment on that, but I also know that in Halo, the reloading procedure isn't that detailed. Also, Halo dictates that it's easier to pistolwhip someone and kill them then it is to shoot them.

You know what would be awesome?

If every time someone was shot, the people making/selling the guns would be held responsible...

Also, gun control is good for you.
That is like blaming FORD everytime someone gets drunk and behind the wheel. Millions of people can drive sober and not have an accident but that 1 moron who gets drunk and kills someone is not the manufacturers fault. If you have a gun it should be locked up. You can't blame them because you are to damn stupid not to.
No, actually it's more like blaming the people who made/sold the alcohol.

But in my opinion Ford should get some of the blame as well.

Obviously the person who shot/drove/whatever should also get the blame...
Are you serious? Did the person who made or sold the alchohol make him get behind the wheel? Did FORD Ceo run to the bar and put the keys in his hands and tell him you are ok to drive and go home. Hey why not while we are at it blame the victim for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. They didn't have to be infront of him afterall.
Never mind... I thought we were talking in metaphors... Alcohol=bullets, car=gun, driver=shooter.
Even if we were you can you blame an inanimate object for this? Guns have no ill will towards anyone. Smith & Wesson didn't go "lets make this gun so some dumb kid can shoot his parents." Sure it is nice to blame them but it doesn't help the situation at all. There are tons of guns out there that have been/are used for the right reasons. Just because every once in a while a gun is used for the wrong one doesn't mean guns are bad.
How could a gun possibly be used for the right reason!?

Also, you can't escape the fact that without guns; People wouldn't get shot... And that's my point. Making/selling guns should be illegal.

I apologize if this has been mentioned but I do hate these kinds of stories for one big reason.
You say the judge mentioned being disturbed by video games on a youths mental health, well I ask you this:

What about the millions of other people who play violent video games on regular basis and don't snap? Its the same kinda thing people do when for instance a mother has a "premonition" that her child is in danger and it turns out he/she is. That "premonition" only stands out because it was true that one time. She just forgets about every other time she thought something along those lines and it didn't come true.
Somebody get this man a diploma, because I can't recall the last time I saw such a good point.
Welcome to the Escapist, I'll make sure you get a nice room ;D

This guy didn't kill his mom because he didn't understand she would be dead forever, he killed her because he is fucking insane. Some people will just end up like this. How many people play violent games and DON'T go on genocidal rampages? A lot.

These stupid psycho's keep giving the Game Nazi's more ammo. I hate these people so much.

Sick fucking idiot kills his mom over a video game, and suddenly all gamers are slowly being perceived as a potential threat. This is a slow climb, but kids like this will slowly have our games severely changed if not outright banned.

i fail to see how the video game is really relevant. its just a kid who throws a tantrum because he cant get what he wants.

it was a stupid thing to do, and the kid got what he deserved, but i cant see how the item being a video game is relevant.

The way i see it, its just an attempt to shift the blame from inadequate gun control laws. The americans can't lose their guns now can they. Lets blame all the violence on games instead of giving out guns like candy.
This could have been easily avoided if the box the gun was in was locked.

This whole thing reeks of stupidity. The kid killing his parents was stupid. The parents leaving the gun box unlocked was stupid. The judge's comments on video games was stupid.
He's right. This could have been avoided if the box was locked. However, that would require common sense and responsibility. And since both of those, clearly doesn't exist anymore, I have to go with needing better gun control laws. If people were more responsible, then more gun control laws wouldn't be needed. BUT, it seems like they ARE needed, since people can't be responsible on their own.

i don't think you can blame guns any more than you can blame videogames.

i own a gun, and i don't keep it locked [though it is in a case]. i also don't have children, but i do have idiot roomates and often drunken morons over, and i've never had an issue.

it's all about setting realistic boundaries, and holding to them. i keep it in my bedroom, and no one's allowed in there. simple.

why didn't the parents let him buy the game? did he already have behavioral issues or were they sheltering him [as we all know fails]? i think these questions are more important than the fact the dad had a gun.

maybe he should have taken his son to the range so he'd understand the power of a gun. it's possible the kid didn't understand the firepower of it? but at his age there's no excuse for not understanding that when people are shot they tend to die and stay dead. i think people are too lenient on kids because it's instinct to protect children.

but these days a 17 year old damn well knows what he's doing. guilty.

Haw haw! See why he should be playing better games? If he knew better games (like TF2... ON THE COMPUTER), he wouldn't have to worry about Gaylo.

HALO KILLS, BAN THE GAME.... BUT KEEP ALL OTHER GAMES THAT DON'T SUCK!!!

i agree. mr. vanguard, my friend, makes yet another good point.

it's like slapping a bandaid on the problem, when the cause itself needs to be addressed.

if it hadn't been a gun it could have been a baseball bat, a knife, a shoe, a stick, a fork, etc. you going to ban all that? what people need to realize is that the gun doesn't whisper 'hey kid, shoot your mom, yeaaah.' no, dumbasses, the kid wanted to kill his parents and it just so happens that guns are the easiest method available.

so please, stop being hypocrites. blaming guns is just as dumb as blaming video games.

Hunting. Our species wouldn't have lasted very long without some kind of equalizer against the animal kingdom.

And I really hate to be the one to burst your bubble but if guns didn't exist humans would still find a way to kill each other. Just look at the medievil period.
