In Mount and Blade I was running around with just me and two companions...Nizar and the extraordinarily useless Marnid, when I was jumped by a large band of Forest Bandits. I didn't want to surrender, but the chance of victory was slim. If we were going to win, I was going to have to essentially be Hercules and dispatch all 50 or so of them myself.

20 seconds into the fight my horse was laboring up a hillside and took one too many arrows and went down, and I was swiftly overwhelmed. In disgust I stormed out to go to the bathroom and have a sulk. When I came back in, not only was I not captured, Nizar had improbably slain all of the bandits and gone up 4 levels.

Often times in Battlefront 2 i'd be taking a CPU, advancing the republic up planet inch by bloody inch. And sniper droid would take the vantage point, aiming me up. And thena random soldier would walk by, take the shot meant for me and either die or live and fire back. Either way, it alerts me to the droids presence and I immediately gun the droid down.

THough I do remember one specific time was on Kashyyk. the droids were about to destroy the locking mechanism and they would have poured through the gate and killed us (we only had the point behind the seawall left. I needed one more point to become a hero and be yoda so I could just wreck those bitches and give us breathing room. So this droid run sin, shoots a rocket, but a soldier runs in front of it. kills the soldier, I kill the droid, I get to be yoda, go on a killing spree, and capture a CPU or two.

In the end, we won the battle and that was the turning point. I eventually found out who the soldier was (inthe ranking system at the nd of a match) and named my next save file after him.

Republic Commando. Best squadmate AI ever. If you go down, they will either haul your ass back up into the fight, or they will finish the droids up on their own and THEN revive you when the coast is clear.
Yeah I remember when I was playing that game, awesome teammates. :)

Boone, yea, he saved me once or twice.
Veronica, on the other hand, she is the ultimate lifesaver!
When she is not trying to do CQC with a pack of Deathclaws...

Superfly Johnson in Daikatana. He made clear that I should not waste more time on this game by reproducibly being crushed by a door in one level and thus destroying my save game. Boy, am I grateful today.

Well, this was more of an involuntary sacrifice than saving my ass, but whenever I played Halo ODST on legendary, I would always use the marine NPCs as human shields, especially when a Brute chieftan shows up with a gravity hammer!

Yes. I was playing FFXII, and I probably don't grind enough.

I was in a boss fight, and things were going bad nearly from the start, specifically, it was the fight with a judge onboard the enemy airship as we were trying to escape. I had to spam items, and micromanage as much as I could, but by the time he was down to 10% health, I'd already lost nearly my entire party.

I was Controlling Vaan, since i tend to go ahead and just control the main character even if I can use someone else, and I was down low in health, everybody was dead except for me, and Balthier.

The guy uses one of his more heavy hitting attacks and kills me, then begins running towards Balthier, I tried to switch my control over to him so i could tell him to use a pheonix down on me, but before I could, his action meter filled, and he took a shot, killing the boss just before he reached him.

In Mafia 2, I love that crazy gunstore owner that shoots cops that are chasing you. The best part is he's completely silent the entire time while he's slaughtering Empire Bay cops by the dozen, like a true badass.

Yes, in Halo Reach my invincible partners killed all the enemies while I stood by and did nothing. It seems the tides have turned, for once my AI partner killed the enemies instead of me.

In KOTOR (Knights Of The Old Republic), I can't even Count how many times The Npc Companions have saved my life. My main character Dies ALOT, So it often falls upon my Npc allies to Finish the fight. Usually, They fall Horribly, Because all of the good weapons and Armour are on my dead Character, Giving them a general Disadvantage In combat. But to the Point:

[Minor Spoiler Alert]
I had just Left Dantooine, And decided to go to the frst planet i saw: Tatooine. So after flying there and completing the Quests in the town, I went out into the wastelands. With me a brought Bastilla And Mission. So i did the quests in the wasteland, and began Advancing into the tusken Territory. Things were going fine until i got inside the camp. After i few Fights with patrols, I noticed a problem: No more medpacs. So okay, Whatever, I Still have the jedi for the force healing thing. So i went farther into the camp, Walked around a corner, And ran into the tusken Chief and 6 Bodyguards, Almost Instantly, Bastilla and my main character Died. So i run away to the entrance with mission. With no Medpacs, Jedi Or any other supports of stimulants, I knew i was pretty screwed. because my whole party wasnt here, I couldnt leave the camp to restock. I didnt want to reload the save because i would lose over a hour of progress. So, Using a stockpile of mines, and me using Mission to lure the Enemies into the mines, I EVENTUALLY won, And was able to heal my party and leave the camp. Since then, I have always kept Mission in my party. Odd story, But its the best example i have.

Thanks for Readig :3

The guardian, in Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, saved me lots of times after I screwed up. He let me die just as many though.
That game was so awful... but at least I'll be getting my platinum tomorrow!

"Hold on Tepeu, I save you!"
*runs in opposite direction*

Once he even started dancing as I was dying!

I've pretty much seen all the Roosterteeth clips on youtube called "Fail of the weak"..
These are failclips from some Halo game, i don't know wich one, but that game must have the most ignorant and helpfull AI there is..

They so many times superglue nades to their own face or their own allies, that you can barely stop laughing to catch a breath..

MArines in Halo havn't saved my ass perse, but they have helped me a lot, Get a rocket launcher into thier hands and you've got some serious firepower. The AI from Ghostbusters has saved me once or twice and i don't know where i'd be with out Liara and Garrus backing me up in Mass Effect. Other than those there was a specific incident in minecraft where a millinare villager totally destroyed a creeper who was chsing me. That was awesome.

This is something of a specialty of mine in RPGs. All of them involved the "Berserk" status effect, thus the NPC requirement is fulfilled. The one I can remember occurred in Final Fantasy VIII, during the fight with Cerberus. At some point, Zell went berserk, and while Squall and Rinoa were on the ground with 0 hp, Zell finished the fight in 2 rounds and was in double digit hps as it ended.

Glitch in Minecraft on 1.6
Was on my usual Multiplayer server, walkin out further (part of a group effort between myelf and a couple other players to get out as far as possible, we reached 2m before the map reset for 1.8 :/ ) And happened across a creeper the didn't chase me when I ran past.

Interested I popped back over and, lo and behold, it was the friendly creeper glitch, second time it'd happened to me :p.

I was already on low health when the skeleton made it's first shot, the arrow just barely missing me and instead hitting the creeper, who then ran over to the skeleton and killed it...
Probably saved me a few k of walking o.o

In the tutorial, and only the tutorial, of Oblivion. The AI saves my ass from being slaughtered by Mythic Dawn in the section after picking your birthsign. Baurus and Glenroy kill 'em in 1-2 hits. My class-less, level 5-15 in all skills ass gets slaughtered.
