Has an NPC teammate ever saved the day for you?

In Ace Combat 5, my wingmen did about 80% of the damage to the SOLG (the last boss, sort of) and generally kept my tail clear for the whole campaign. Best allies I've ever had in a game.

There were also some times in Mass Effect where my various allies saved me from certain death but I can't think of a specific one.

This is actually the best story. In Halo 2 on normal in one of the MC levels where you go into that underwater complex (right before MC gets attacked by the Gravemind), you start with a bunch of Marine allies. Normally they just drop like flies, but I noticed that this one guy had stayed with me for a while. I gave him my sniper rifle, and he kicked some ass. He survived the entire level without any conscious babysitting by me, and saved me more than I saved him. He was a total badass.

I've pretty much seen all the Roosterteeth clips on youtube called "Fail of the weak"..
These are failclips from some Halo game, i don't know wich one, but that game must have the most ignorant and helpfull AI there is..

They so many times superglue nades to their own face or their own allies, that you can barely stop laughing to catch a breath..

Actually those are isolated events, the Halo Reach AI is really good, some of the best I've seen.

In Star Fox, I actually saw Slippy get the final shot on Star Wolf during one of the battles against them.

I knew it was him because Star Wolf was the only baddie left on the screen. Slippy comes on the comm and does his rarely-seen "Hey I got one I got one!" followed immediately by Star Wolf's "NOOOoooooo"

I was playing Halo Reach (A while ago) and saw some guy fire a rocket at me. An AI was all "Lol! Something over there to shoot at!" And started shooting at a rock. The rocket past through the stream of bullets and exploded. It was awesome.

Once I was in an intense SSBM match while using Ice Climbers. Both my friend and I were down to our last life and had high damage. My friend knocked Popo (the one you directly control) off the top of the screen and thinking the match was over, stopped paying attention. Nana (AI controlled here) then proceeded to walk up to my friend and smash him off the side, killing him just before I was actually knocked out and winning me the match.
