Has something small ruined a game for you?

Small flaws don't typically ruin a game for me. If the game has a major flaw, however, I have a hard time playing it. Also, what can be considered a "flaw" is really a matter of opinion. Some things that I like about a game, another person may not like, and therefore, could be considered a flaw to them. What I consider a small flaw may also annoy another person enough for them to consider it to be a major flaw that ruins the game for them. For example, I didn't particularly hate the Mako in Mass Effect 1. It had enough flaws in it to be a turn-off for some people, but I thought it had a lot of potential to be good if it had been improved in Mass Effect 2. When I heard that BioWare decided to take the Mako out of Mass Effect 2, I was somewhat disappointed. While I think the game can still be great without it, I would have liked to see how they would have improved the Mako sections of the game to appeal to people who thought it was broken. Oh well, maybe they will bring it back and improve it for Mass Effect 3.

Anyway, like I said, small flaws don't bother me, but major ones can sometimes ruin a game for me if there are enough of them to make the game suck. Maybe this is why I didn't hate the Mako. It had a lot of small flaws, but nothing major in my opinion, even though some people considered the Mako to be one major flaw in and of itself.

I'm not sure if this would be considered a small flaw... But in Lost Odyssey you have to level grind... constantly. No matter what. If you aren't just the right level you WILL die horribly, even fighting the random encounters that pop up. But even if you hit the level cap for a particular area there's a good chance you'll still get your ass handed to you by the boss if you aren't careful. Cheap tactics like double casting uber powerful spells abound. T_T

in final fantasy 3 for the DS,
a cool game with a great storyline ALL ruined because whoever made the game decided to add the fucking job change system.
let me tell you how things should work,
each of your party members should have a special ability or trait that makes them almost essential to your team, thats why ff7 was good, because each character brought a new level of costomization to your team.
everyones team was differnt.
another thing that should be (which applies if you care) is the experience system.
you start off with weak monsters which give you the essential experience to make the next group of enemies to be challenging, but beatable and eventually the next set of weak enemies.
but if you have a complex job system then most enemies will be forced to have almost identical experience points, regardless of how hard they are.
but since the enemies get harder( and the experience points ant stats of your characters stay the same) it means you have to spend a fuckload of time to level up your characters in order to go just a minescule farther in the story.
58 hours(no lies) into the game and Ive BARELY just beat kraken(which is a little under half the game) because the chllenge rating and exp systems are fucked to hell.
ff5 did this to, but it wasnt as bad so ill let it pass.

edit: of all those hours, I think 3 of them were story related and, to be fair, I would have spent maybe 10 of those hours exp farming if it didnt force me to(which it did).
What? FFIII pioneired the Job system, even in the Famicom version. It was good back then but needed updating for the DS version, using V's as the base probably.
And I don't think VII is the best argument for "Everyone being unique" it was more "Everyone's limits are unique, but interchangeable materia." IX and X are better examples.

Anyway: Yes, Lunar DS would have been very good if they had just fixed up the battle system. I could have handeled all the other problems if I got to pick my target and reliably earn EXP and Items after every battle instead of having to pick between them.
Oh, and Radiata Story's characters. And battle system. It coulda been a good game if not for that.

MW2 - Get shot once and the screen is covered in blood. That really pissed me off throughout the game.

I completely agree, it's gotten me killed dozens of times.

Oh wow, the first person I have seen on the internet other than the Paradox forums that knows what it even is! *gasp*

Yeah, I get what you mean. I actually love the game but could care less for war unless it's like a juggernaut vs. a puppy. And I'm the juggernaut.

Now, as for the post, the small thing that "ruined" Braid for me was the story. It seems like he's trying to make it all meaningful but it comes off as trying too hard. For me, anyways. It's as if he's trying to say, "My story has a deep meaning, you better fucking analyze it since I've spent this long on it." I can't handle that, sorry. Otherwise, the game's pretty good.

If you're getting your armies wiped in EU3, that's you, not the game. Play better.

As far as legitimate anger-inducers? The economic model is JUST far enough off in Civ4 Colonization (even with Dale and Snoopy's Age of Discovery II Mod) that it's the trading-game equivalent of the Uncanny Valley in people.

Edit: Sturmdolch, you may wish to familiarize yourself with an Escapist User Group called "Paradox Fans"...wink wink nudge nudge...we've all played EU3 and more discussion would bring that group to life.

The fact that there's no background music in BF:BC campaign
I liked killing people and blowing up walls, but for some reason, the lack of music just killed it for me.
EDIT: also the reloads on assault rifles...it takes so long and looks so bad for some reason

The leveling systems in certain RPGs (Oblivion comes to mind almost immediately, there are a few others that I can't seem to remember off the top of my head).
I thought by now that we've agreed it should go that we kill a monster it gives us points and when we have enough said points we get stronger. This works... Breaking something that works isn't necessary so LEAVE IT ALONE!

the construction set in Morrowind removed all difficulty for me; because I could have any item I could ever want, sadly without any difficulty the game lost it's charm for there was little to no motivation. Even not using the construction set was annoying after I had already used it. Alas, I can't stand playing Morrowind anymore.

Infinite Undiscovery: If only the main character capell was more likeable than a screaming baby when you are trying to enjoy your food at a restaraunt and the voicings on the game for him and a few other characters didn't make me want to rend my shirt everytime i heard them speak.

I couldn't complete the game i just couldn't stand that one character in particular...

The original Disgaea's Dark Assembly system. I still love the game and its story to death, but whenever I have to try to pass anything I grit my teeth and mutter under my breath, dearly wishing for the improvements the sequel brought to that aspect of the game.

It was significantly shorter and less bullshitty in the Japanese version as it did not have the cinematic just a white light crashing down on you.

No clue why the American version had to be so stupid

OT: in super mario galaxy it's nearly impossible for me to get any distance on my jumps when I am in a small area and NEED to get some air to survive.

The fucking cheaters in MW2! I can't stand it even when my roommate cheats. I refuse to do it even though I know how. The freaking care package glitch. That and the people who run around holding care packages to run faster and knife everyone...they're just annoying. I really wish Infinity Ward would have waited a little bit more rather than coming out with a new patch every month. Instead of new downloadable content I have to look forward to each new patch.
