I saw this review on youtube called "some punctuation", which was a review for some 2d game, and I wanted to find this guy again, but, instead, I found some other shitty reviewer who was ripping him off, who was called "Zero Punctation." I started looking for into this "Yhatzee" guy, and his reviews started to grow on me, but I could only find a few on youtube, so I googled him and found this odd website that thought it was a magazine called...
"The Escapist."

Funny you should mention Shounen Jump, when I went to Supanova (a pop culture expo) I got a booster pack for a card game based on Shounen Jump's comic Shaman King. Not knowing what it was I looked it up and watched the whole series. I told my friend and he watched it and loved it too. Then he looked up other manga and anime and became hooked on the whole lot. He still occasionally tells me about good anime and manga he finds (he told me about Code Geass which I thought could be alright so I watched it and love it to this day, I've seen the whole series thrice, but it wasn't really an accidental discovery).

More recently, Improbable Island. I was looking through webcomics, reading through, following ads for other webcomics and reading them, looking for good ones to follow. I saw an ad for something called Improbable Island, thinking it was a webcomic, I clicked on it. I read the front page and found I needed to put my name in. Eventually, I caught on it was a text based role playing site. Sounds boring (and nerdy) but it's so witty and interesting, I play it all the time.

Lastly, one of my favourites, the Professor Layton series. I saw it at the shops a few times and thought it was a kids game. Then I played a demo that was available at the shops one day and I got hooked. It was the type of game I'd been looking for. Now I've finished the trilogy and waiting for the next one. :)

Sid Meier's Civilization 2, and consequently, the rest of the franchise.

When I was around 8 years old, my family finally got an actual computer with Windows on it (woo!). Anyway, a family friend gave us this floppy disk with a bunch of games saved on it. My parents let me check it out, and there were a handful of windows 95 and DOS games on it...

One of those games was Civ 2. Even though I was too young to fully understand how to play, I figured out enough to love it. Make my own country? NAME my cities? Invade other countries? AWESOME!

I gradually figured out how to play properly as I grew older, and I picked up Civ 3 and 4 (and the expansions) as they came out.

I tried the demo for Civ 5, but I was pretty disappointed with it so I'm just gonna stick with 4.

Was surfing the channels one night, stumbled across Adult Swim, which happened to be running the first episode of Code Geass.

I didn't like anime, I still don't like most of it, speaking as a writer most of it tends to be very contrived and childish. However Code Geass is a glaring exception for the most part, with a highly intricate plot, as well as a well thought out history and back story.

Also the escapist. Was looking for some articles on EVE online a year or so back, came across this site, came buckets.

The GazettE.
Theyre an amazing Japanese Rock/metal band with amazing outfits.
Give them a listen. Theyre heavy, theyre lyrics are great, and they always look amazing.

I was just watching funny japanese pranks on youtube, and "Hyena" was in the related videos. I watched it, and ive never heard a better band since then.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

i originally went to Gamestop looking for Star Wars: Galaxies, as i had heard that there was some huge multiplayer SW game, but i didnt know the name. (i was like 12 or 13 at the time)

anyway, either my description of the game was off, or the salesman just made a mistake, but he handed me KotOR. i got home and started playing, and instantly knew it wasnt what i was looking for, but i played for a while and it didnt take long for me to love that game. its still one of the best games ive ever played.

not long afterwards, i found out the name of the game i was looking for was Star Wars: Galaxies, and that it was PC exclusive. woops

Fight Club.

I was flipping channels, saw that that movie was coming on and I was bored. Read it was some aggressive, gritty fighting movie. "Good," I thought," I could use some violence, a boxing film will do." Little did I know that it wasn't a boxing film. It was better. So. much BETTER!

A friend recommended 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss to me. I devoured the first two ks, and will soon have a heart attack with the strain of wait for the third.
Someone here posted in some topic that the Fable OST reminded him of The Name of the Wind. So I listened to the Fable OST, which blew me away in it's own right, and I just knew that any book that has the same atmosphere as that music had to be good. And my gods it is.

I'm only one third into The Wise Man's Fear, so please don't tell me anything about it, but it's already one of my favourite books ever. Knowing the third won't come out in a while pains me already, and I haven't even finished the second one!

Ummm... My girlfriend. We met a little over a year ago, at a party held at a mutual friends' house. Got drunk, slept together... I did the nice guy thing, and decided to ask her out instead of just making her do the walk of shame afterward.

We've been happily together ever since. Definitely not the normal way I'd like to meet a girl, but it worked. Certainly had no plans to meet a girl when I went to the party, my buddy had just gotten back for summer break from college, I was just going to hang out with him.

When I was a kid I mistook beer for Coke. Even after I realised it was beer I still continued to drink it - although I don't like alcoholic beer.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. I originally asked for the first one, but all they had was II, so I got that instead. I didn't even know there was a sequel, actually: And it was as awesome as the first.

Like you, I discovered Silent Hill by accident. Specifically Silent Hill 2;

I was actually looking around for SH3, then I came by SH2. Picked it up, played it... and now, it stands as my favourite game of all time.

A couple years ago I stumbled over this video

After I had seen it I was like "holy crap, what was that?" and I checked it out. The deeper I dug, the more mind was blown. Since at the time life was pretty harsh for me, this kind of changed me as a person. I'm certain 'd be another man today if I'd never discovered this.

Music. I was reading the final chapter of a fanfic, and the writer told us about a song that would fit the chapter. It was "Life is beautifull from sixx am". I did what she said and read the chapter with the song in the background. But I didn't pay attention to the chapter at all, I was completly absorbed by the song. From that day my intrest and love for music was born and it has stuck to me ever since.
