I tend to ignore hype, and look at games (also those that are hyped up) neutrally and figure out if it might be something for me. Research is important! =D

You mean hype about a good game that turns out bad? Sure.

I did fall for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but thankfully I didn't have the money to buy it right when it came out. I barrowed it from a friend later only to find out that it was dreadful (Other than a great plot).

Also, I did buy Red Faction: Guerilla after falling for the hype. While not really a "bad" game, it was incredibly disappointing. Mainly, an empty world, dying too easily, and dying being super annoying (You don't lose salvage or anything, but it throws you to an annoyingly long loading screen and either boots you back to the beginning of a mission, or boots you to a safehouse, and given how there are only like two per sector, that can get really annoying, really fast).

Most of the other hyped games that I've bought have actually been pretty good (Assassin's Creed 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, exc.)

Aion I must admit, I even took part in the beta. I had hoped it would have been better when it was out but I was very sadly mistaken. Still a grindfest and still boring as hell. Also LoZ: MJ, I loved Ocarina but MJ was just a ton of MEHHHHHHHHHHHHHH to me. I was excited as hell when I heard about it, granted I was about 10 then with ADHD so everything like that excited me to hell. On a better note, I listened to the hype for Dragon Age and fell in love with it. The first pre order that I didn't feel like I wasted money on. Well I also researched the hell out of it too. But well, DA Awakenings was disappointing in my eyes. I expected better, yes the story telling was good but well BioWare is known for good writing.
Oh on a side note, hype is why I don't watch trailers for games. They're so misleading and tell you little to nothing about a game. They have one sole job and that's to sell the game and make hype. Ok two I added one at the end.

Warhammer Online.

I was really looking forward to a game that built on everything that WoW brought to the genre, and would be pvp-focused. Silly me.

I listened to the hype for Spider-Man 3, but only because Raimi had done such an excellent job not kicking me in the balls that I couldn't believe that he would.

Only for star wars the force unleashed. I got the crappy ps2 version. Why? The pc version looks good but costs shiteloads, so that's out.

I don't fall for hype. I make up my own opinion on a game before/after it comes out.

I fell for the hype for the first Fable game. I counted down the days until it was released and was convinced that it would be the best RPG ever made. And then I played it... I still ended up liking the game, but it was nowhere near as epic as Peter Molahooha said it would be.

I fell for Borderlands hype. It was a great game, but it didn't tide me over too long, and I do not plan on getting DLC.

Mass Effect 2.
Such a grievous disappointment.
Not a bad piece of work, but wasted potential.

I guess brutal legend since the game was clearly rushed, the second half of the game was condensed, and the game's RTS elements were a little lacking. the music and writing were top-notch though.
