Private matches over xbox live is pretty much LAN in essence nowadays, so yeah.

I play LAN games all the time. It started when my brother and I were on opposite ends of the house playing PC games. Then I used to play LAN with my roommate in college. Now that I live alone I still bring my PC to LAN parties with my friends.

I use it with Garry's Mod and Synergy, so, yeah.

Also, this really needs a poll.

Yes, LAN parties are loads of fun, particularly with RTS games. Civilization IV is always a favorite at our parties.

I remember playing Doom 2 over LAN back in the day...

By back in the day I mean when it came out! Ah those were the days...
Agreed, back in the days LAN was the only way to do multiplayer...

Yeah, I used to go to a store by my old house called "Game City" and play LAN games of Counterstrike with friends. Those were some real good times. Then Game City closed down and I haven't played a LAN game since.

I used to go to quite a few LAN parties, playing 16 player deathmatces on Halo 2. But that was years ago now. No-one I know throws LAN parties anymore.

Are. You. Kidding?!

You sir are a culturally bankrupt vermin.

LAN multiplayer is a cornerstone-no essential ingredient-to gamers all around the world! Poor gamers using barely functional PC's with no real internet connection but many friends just like them and a single LAN hub between them have lead to millions of shared hours of gameplay over the last twenty years.

You have met many, many LAN players. You just aren't a real gamer. Pokemon is a casual game, just like 90% of all Nintendo properties.

I used to lan with my PC quite alot when I was younger.
Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Battlefield 1942 were the staple games.
I've only been to one lan recently and that was with a 360.
It was fun, but unplugging everything, setting it up and then unplugging it all again just to play games at somebodies house with other friends just doesn't help me want to lan much in the future.

I was making a generalization, being an exception doesn't make you anything but an exception. I will also help fix some of your grammar for you. I will also be helpful and answer your question. No. :]

That used to be the only way of playing multiplayer without being on the same machine. Unless you had AOL and access to Neverwinter Nights.

Trying to get a coax network running under dos was a *****.

I remember playing Call of Duty (one of the old ones, can't remember the name) via LAN at school. I think LAN gaming is so much better than online gaming because your opposition is in the room with you. I've seen some of the fights caused by camping, rushing, teabaggin etc become more violent than the actuall game we were playing. Good times

Yes! Lan party games are awesome! Especially when you have 8 guys playing Halo, four in one room, the other four in the other, throwing banter at each other, trading players, and these are all guys you know. It goes from being a "One screen per team-player" to a "One-screen team"!

Or having a room full of computers with each running a copy of Warcraft III or Starcraft. It makes the race to own the map that much sweeter when you finally crush one of your opponents, just to have him come look over your shoulder to see how you did it.

Oh, and I guess that the DS' wireless connectivity to other games in the area would also technically be Lan, cuz you are connected, and not by the internet.
