Well, at least we can look forward to a nice Zero Punctuation episode.
he already did duke nukem forever dont you remember?
That was an abomination. I can be funnier when I just get to make up shit out of thin air.

To take a real game down in a funny way, that's something I'm looking forward to. Like, say, Wolfenstein ZP.
i was just making a bad joke is that not allowed?
I think he was talking about the ZP episode, not your joke.

OT: Oh well...it's a shame that, from the demo (not gonna judge until I've seen the finished product) it can't be a slightly updated return to the roots of shooters, like we hoped. Oh well, there's always the sequel, in, I dunno, 30 years time?

"But....clearly the game is terrible in order to make fun of how some games are terrible!"

Someone is going to say it and mean it, just wait.

I have a pre-order for the balls of steel edition, but it's more of a collector's item for me than a game. Is it so bad that I should cancel that as well?
Hell no. That bust man.

The problem seems to be less that people find it outright bad - more that it arguably tilts to the side of being completely inoffensive.
I'd say I'm definitely going to be disappointed. It seems to destroy everything that made the Duke great. That said, I'll still get it as long as it's fun.

A. It's a demo
B. We already knew about the CoD elements months ago, you can blame console development for that, gearbox felt having more than two weapons didn't work on consoles

So yeah, you can blame consoles being popular and developers catering to them for that.

As long as it has the duke humor I will rent it...I was never going to buy it because our prices are over the top and I can't justify spending $100 unless I get lots of amazing multiplayer or replay value.

Duke dies faster than just about any FPS character
Honestly, then you must suck in non-cover based shooters like Call of Duty, Halo, etc. I didn't die once, and I had it on medium. Hell, only time my ego meter ran out was against the gun ship. Yes, you are limited to two weapons which is rather disappointing, but that seems to be the new trend now. To your brown comment, I have to responses:
1. The first half wasn't.
2. No shit the second half was, you were in a desert. You expect it to be purple and pink?

Personally, I loved the demo. This game was pretty fun, hilarious, and I can't wait for the full version. Added in with the whole 2 weapon thing, my only other complain is driving. I had having to drive with keys and using the mouse to look rather that steering with the mouse.

the thing about Duke these days is not the gameplay but more of the mythology and just pure awesome that is duke. playing duke nukem is like buying solid gold teeth. useless maybe, but totally badass.

I know i'm getting it(when i'm old enough to, lol XD)

Just played it end to end, what a joke. It plays like a modern FPS, which is to say it's ironsights-or-don't-bother-wasting-your-ammo-take-four-hits-and-die-heal-in-cover bland blunderpiece. The first, short, intro level? Almost there. The boss fight is pretty coold. The second level which is more likely to represent the game as a whole? It looks like Borderlands minus the toon postprocess, the physics are constantly breaking even with next to nothing going on, the modernification becomes more obvious. The sounds are repetitive. Destructible items are a joke, they disappear before they hit the ground and make hollow, pathetic noises. The modelling's pretty good. The meshes look darned fine. But the gameplay driving it all? Rubbish.

i knew it right from the start, the old doom style FPSs were good at the time but have sort of worn out, and although i don't like the current trend of entirley brown CoD rip offs, i don't think the next big thing will be the big thing from a decade ago. also, i just don't like gearbox. i played borderlands and they made it out to be a fun game and look at all the wackyness in this FPS RPG. no. you just took CoD, made it browner and changed the art style. *slow clap*
The old doom style did not worn out, I played Serious Sam HD with a friend (I already had played the old ones so I was under the effects of nostalgia but my friend never played the game before) and both of us enjoyed the crap out of it. The problem with DNF (apparently) is that it isnt Duke Nukem (how did they screwed that up? It is such a simple formula).

Lets see what happens with Serious Sam 3, at least in the trailers he goes out in the open field (although he uses ironsights).

'kay, sorry. I just don't like how that particular episode has won the Favorite ZP episode award and such.

How does more than two weapons not work on consoles? Wolfenstein had a shitload of weapons and it worked very well - I played it on a PC with a X360 gamepad and never needed to touch a mouse during the whole game. Same with Serious Sam HD. Or just about every console shooter before COD.

It's Gearbox that doesn't "work", nothing to do with consoles.

Seriously, Duke with two weapons. That's like, I don't know, stealth Quake, Civilization sandbox racing shooter or Mass Effect with no dialog (or with real moral choices).

Well back to getting games from prior 2004 and not ever buying a new release again.
To be fair, the two weapons thing would be passable. But regenerating health is pretty retarded for duke nukem, it goes completely against the character...having to run behind cover to let the blood drip off his face. Stupid.

Something I learned a long time ago. Don't listen to anonymous people on the internet tell you how good / bad a game is. Especially based on the demo of said game. Also remember that what person X finds to be fun and exciting does not equal what you will find fun and exciting.

For instance, I know many people who thought Brutal Legend was going to be this great hack/slash game with Jack Black and a Goth Girl based on the demo. Then they got a RTS game out of no where and were having WTF moments.

Now I will admit that the demo not completely kicking ass is a bit of a disappointment. I will not hold that against them though. I'm looking forward to picking it up in a couple weeks, and I will judge it on my own.

My biggest issue with this is that all the pessimists will have ammunition to use for all their pessimistic ways.

I can hear it now...

"DNF sucked major donkey scrot, now if you carry the 5 and subtract the 2 that would mean HL3 is total cock and balls"

OR

"You know that game you've been really looking forward to for like 2 years now? Well it's shit. Why? Cause DNF shattered my hopes and dreams THATS WHY!"

its to be expected; gearbox hasnt exactly proven to be competent in the development of DNF. i was hoping it would be like the emperor's new groove; that was a movie mired in development hell that went through several conceptual overhauls, but ultimately turned out something hilarious and awesome. it seems gearbox got the humor right, but its no stretch of the imagination to think the gameplay its attached to is lacking.

so sad... sounds like they tried to hard to make it more in line with modern shooters at the last minute, which is kinda the opposite of what everyone wanted.

I played the demo last night and came to the same conclusion.

Call of Duke will be entirely cancelled for me to put the rest on Alice : Madness Returns, and I will be trolling the nearest GameStop on release date.
While I won't support trolling people at a GameStop, I'm 100% behind you getting Alice. I'm pretty hyped for that.

Nice, judging the entire game off the demo.
Not the entire game, just the core mechanics and un-revisable elements such as health system, crucial elements and the direction of both gameplay and aesthetics based on what appears to be, and WILL be, in the final version as well.
Any other strawman arguments?

I honestly don't care how bad or good it is. I'll be getting it no matter what. Not like I'm strapped for cash or anything so whatever.
Cool, then you can buy me a condo.
In the long run, I think everyone can agree it would be a better investment.
I'll just build one out of discarded copies of DNF.
It shall be the manliest yet least appealing condo in the world!

Or just the busts from the Balls of Steel edition.
Heh. Had to search to see the busts you were referring to >.> That would be even worse than just the copies. Unless someone wants to have a bunch of Dukes staring at them.
Imagine the bathroom... Dukes staring at your girlfriend creeping her out until you're single...
The Duke busts will likely steal your girlfriend.
Better that the Duke busts still my girlfriend than the Duke stealing my girlfriend's bust...
