I never really got that one-liner. Was it an internet reference or something?Baneat said:It looks like shit and plays like shit. That's the FPS section, the vehicles were worse. Got to the mines, got lost, found a crate, smashed it

Did you see the one that says "When getting shot at, try to avoid bullets"Fenra said:And the poking fun at itself humor that came occasionally, like the loading screen that said "picking up poo doesnt reduce ego, as much as we wanted it to"

After opening a chest of loot/ bosses ballsack if the loot is stolen by not allowing fair chances at it from party members it's considered "Ninja'd"
My personal favorite is "If you get stuck, don't forget you can cheat by looking at FAQs online"EHKOS said:Did you see the one that says "When getting shot at, try to avoid bullets"Fenra said:And the poking fun at itself humor that came occasionally, like the loading screen that said "picking up poo doesnt reduce ego, as much as we wanted it to"
Yes, it's because Doom, Hexen, Star Wars: Dark Forces or several other pre-Duke 3D FPS games ~never~ featured puzzles or backtracking elements to slow down the pace. Might want to play some more classics before you start making bold claims, boy.Triforceformer said:What? You expect them to give away the best parts in a demo? Also, who said Duke Nukem was ever about "Constant balls to the wall action"? Who said constant balls to the wall action was ever a good way to design games? Duke Nukem 3D was actually one of the first FPSes to pioneer the idea of slowing down every once in a while for a puzzle or two. An idea that many people credit to Half-Life which I'm sure you've heard of and seen people suck its balls (of steel) over.Pedro The Hutt said:oh the excitement of pushing minecarts and emptying them before you can even start to a scripted sequence... constant balls to the wall action indeed.
The demo is just showing that that mindset has not been lost in 14 years of delays, WoW, and (most likely) porn. And it does it through "F'ing Heavy" brand barrels and minecarts. And since you seem so "Disgusted" with DNF, I doubt you are in the First Access Club. So I highly doubt you've actually gotten to play the demo that you seem to despise already. God, your avatar is just so fitting.
Duke Nukem 3d was excellent, and until today with some graphics mods is really good and enjoyable.StealthMonkey43 said:The original Duke Nukem was awful so it's not surprising.
What is your avatar from? It looks like my gf >.>ShockValue said:Heh. Had to search to see the busts you were referring to >.> That would be even worse than just the copies. Unless someone wants to have a bunch of Dukes staring at them.ZombieGenesis said:It shall be the manliest yet least appealing condo in the world!ShockValue said:I'll just build one out of discarded copies of DNF.ZombieGenesis said:Cool, then you can buy me a condo.ShockValue said:I honestly don't care how bad or good it is. I'll be getting it no matter what. Not like I'm strapped for cash or anything so whatever.
In the long run, I think everyone can agree it would be a better investment.
Or just the busts from the Balls of Steel edition.
Yes, watching a game is the same thing as playing it. I'll bet the videos you watched didn't even find the HoloDuke or beer, nor show off the detonateable nuke easter egg. Not saying you're not entitled to an opinion on the demo, but you cannot judge a game properly until you've played it for yourself.Pedro The Hutt said:And no, I haven't played the demo, but thanks to this thing called Youtube there were Let's Plays or simple playthrough footage within hours of it going live, saves me the bother of having to waste the filespace on downloading the thing when it goes public.
See, that's where the fucking problem lies. It's not that we put it on a pedestal. If anything we were cautiously optimistic about he game to the 10th degree. The problem is that DNF is just some CoD like FPS. And one of the reasons Duke Nukem is still popular is because it isn't SUPPOSED to be some CoD like game. It's supposed to be run and gun.ZombieGenesis said:Then you'll be pleased to know DNF uses the exact same mechanics as COD.AWAR said:I think our FPS standards have been distorted by many years of Call of Duty to the point anything different in terms of gameplay mechanics seems unreasonable and awkward. I also think that people's expectations were too high for a game that basically relied on a 15 year old game's premise..
yes duke nukem 3d was epic, it was in the golden era of FPS, as was Zero Hour, though planet of the babes was totally a failure, it still lived up to the franchiseStavros Dimou said:Duke Nukem 3d was excellent, and until today with some graphics mods is really good and enjoyable.StealthMonkey43 said:The original Duke Nukem was awful so it's not surprising.
