Hey, who's this guy...? Oh, it's fucking DANTE. What do you reckon about the re-design?

I think I have to retract a few statements after watching the trailer and reading up on it.

I'm still on the stance that instead of a reboot, they should have just created a sequel to DMC 2, too bad the game was horrible.

However, I'm very glad NT is throwing all that story away and starting fresh because personally, I didn't like every character that wasn't Dante. The game really gave me a 'Fuck everyone else cause they aren't me.' vibe. As for his look, he's assumingly like 15-16, he does have silver growing in his hair. Which is fine as long as they make coherent story point around that. But really, as along as he has the 'I got the sword, the guns, the moves, and the attitude to stomp your face in.' thing, I'm totally fine with it.

From, the trailer, the gun play does look little forced.
I'm just hoping that gameplay will not be.

I just hope to God they give him Rebellion at some point in the game, and not as some weapon at the end to fight the last boss.

Also, semi related question, HAS anyone ever seen Dante reload his handguns?
He uses his demon powers to strengthen his handguns.

In short, no he never reloads because a wizard did it. :D
HAHA!!! So the Wizard is behind it eh? I need to have a talk with him... cause I hate having to reload...

I don't see why people keep saying this Dante looks like he's from twilight. According to the books, and the fifteen tot went minutes of the first movie that I watched, all of the Cullen Vamps were extremely beautiful and flawless/perfect ( I think they were said to look like marble statues at one point). This Dante is quite obviously not 'flawless/perfect'
The closest thing he has in common with a Twilight Vamp, in my opinion, is the yellowish-red or amber colored eyes, and I've always associated eyes that color with either monsters/demons or wild, feral animals.

Yeah, you do have a point there. They completely bastardized Samus with her:

"I'm sooooooo in love! Today, Adam looked at me....and smiled! <3 <3 <3 I think that he might.....like me! I am seriously, majorly crushing on him! What a hottie!"

Plus, poor old Dante looks like the hideous lovechild of Lisbeth Salander and Kefka from Final Fantasy VI.

However, this is a reboot. They are starting over again. Hopefully it won't suck shitballs and poopyjuice like the Spider-Man reboot. Yes, I know it'll suck. Why? It won't have Bruce Campbell. Long story short, they are creating a new identity for the series.

Also, this may not actually be a reboot. This could be a sequel/prequel, either showing Dante's son or showing how Dante transformed into the arrogant prick we all know and love. Use your brain, judging by the trailer, his hair will definitely be white by the end of the game.

And....DAMN, I didn't know people liked Dante that much.

Overall, I really don't have that much of a problem with the design.

Super Edit: Actually, looking at it again, I realized that he's pretty hideous. It's still not enough to throw a damn temper tantrum over!

While I as of now do not believe you, even if that was him, it could still work. Just make it so that, as a plot point, as his Demonic Power starts to awaken in any amount greater than almost nothing, his hair turns white, simmilar how, in DMC3, after Dante's Devilish spirit truly awakens, his Sword Rebellion changes to match that.

Edit: Alright, now I believe you, and I apologise if I was rude to you before.

Also, onto the topic at hand, it could work as any number of things. Really, I don't see the problem; it could be a reboot, a spin-off, a "This is actually Dante's descendent" kind of thing, a "This is Dante before he had whte hair due to Devil powers" type of thing (see above), a "This is Dante later in life, and due to whatever arbitrary reason, he now has Black hair," or any other thing. Really, I just hope the game is good.

Hell, I'm kinda hoping for a "This is Dante's predecessor, a friend of Sparda, who died for Sparda, and who Sparda named one of his twin sons after out of respect," kind of thing.

For the record, dear readers, Ninja Theory is working on this, and Team Ninja did Metroid: Other M. The same company didn't do both, geniuses.

I think there is call for a correction, not to you, Kerrigan. Team Ninja made Other M, and judging from what women looked like in their previous games, if im correct and they are the ones that made Ninja Gidain and DOA, we should be greatful that samus didnt have watermelons triping her up. Ninja Theory made Heavenly Sword and are making Enslaved.

I know the redesign isn't great but hopefully the game will still be good, people are writing off this game as crap already when they haven't seen any gameplay simply because they don't like Dantes new look. Get over yourselves already and wait till you see any gameplay before you make judgements on whether its good.

Keep in mind I haven't played a DMC game because I don't have any desire to own a playstation of any kind, I personally like this look better than what I've seen of Dante so far. He seems more like a normal person and I find that more interesting when the person is fighting with giant swords and deflecting bullets and shit.

Ok, I'm just going to point it out now, but you have got the company's mixed up..

Team Ninja made Metroid: Other M, as well as the newer Ninja Gaiden games (1,2 Black, and all those things.

Ninja Theory are the ones doing this game, and Heavenly Sword

I will play this as much as I did C&C4, for the same reason that each has the same quantity relating it to the rest of its series: nigh bugger all. All that relates this to the others is that the main character has two pistols and a red coat.

I never got into the Devil May Cry games.. so I'm at a bit of a loss here, trying to explain to myself why everyone is throwing a huge fit over this.

I'm of the understanding that the DMC series is pretty much over, and that this entry is to be it's saving grace, lest it be cast into the ether. Yet, instead of even giving it a chance, the "hardcore DMC fans" are going to shun it all away because he doesn't have white hair, etc?

Wake me up when someone talks about the gameplay instead of being fanatical about 'Dante' and his unimportant, superficial appearance. This is apparently going to be an 'origins' story, anyway, so I don't see how he could look anything like his later years.. ? That would make no sense. From what I glean out of this thread, Dante's white hair was the most important aspect of the entire series. (Wow..?)

Mkay.

I'll go play something else then.

Speaking of.. since it's what I'm playing and all.. I think I know where Dante has gone. He went to The Witcher.. his alter-name is "Geralt", and he's a bit withered and roughed up now.

Capcom: "The next Devil May Cry will have more of a western touch, and is being developed by Ninja Theory."

ABOVE: Dante from Devil May Cry in his younger years (wasn't that DMC3?)

Yeah... He totally does have a "Western" influence. I guess...

It seems loads of people hate it, but what do you think of this "new" Dante, Escapist? It kind of pisses me off how they pretty much completely scrapped the old look we all know and love, but it could work out. I suppose. He seems to still remain cool while being a bit emo. I hope he is still extremely badass, and is still funny and cool. Not serious and subdued.

"Problem, gamers?"
didn't we all see what happened with Metroid Other M and ninja theory?!!?!?!?!
No we didn't, because that never happend. Team Ninja was responsible for Metroid Other M.

Dante doesn't look THAT bad. (Although some Silver hair polish wouldn't go unnoticed.)
Provided he doesn't turn into an emo (HATE whiny characters) and he is still as awesome as before it doesn't seem that bad.
Haven't played any DMC games (Although I wish to) but the trailer looks pretty good. Although at this stage it is impossible to tell whether or not the game itself is going to good or not.

wait a sec, didn't Ninja Theory just finish killing metroid? This must be one twisted developer, ruin the story of a great game series then systematically move on to the next one. again i hope there is more to this, like he becomes his normal self halfway through the game or some crap.
No, that's Team Ninja you're thinking of, those are the people who made the new Ninja Gaiden games. Ninja Theory are the ones who made Heavenly Sword. Though I can see how you might confuse the two.
wow woops, at least now i can make the generalization that any developer that has ninja in its name is not only pretentious but does not make very good games.
