Same here. I haven't watched a new movie since Star Trek, and that was a 50% off rental i returned the next day. Suck it Hollywood, go die in an alley somewhere.

Ah, I see. Move along people, nothing to see here.

(Still, Hollywood you know what to do.)

They do have a point though, I'm as much against SOPA and PIPA as anyone, but piracy is a major problem for the entertainment industry. Something should be done about piracy, but the current legislation isn't the answer.
Which is why I support the OPEN net act. http://keepthewebopen.com/

It helps address those things and keep censorship to a minimum.

Also though that will never please Hollywood/RIAA/MPAA because they don't want a reduction in piracy, they want control over the industry.

As a ton of folks have been submitting, Miramax's CEO, Mike Lang, recently admitted that control over the distribution channel is a much bigger issue than "piracy." Of course, that's what some of us have been arguing for ages. The "fight" over "piracy" has always been a fight about control of the distribution channel.

"Piracy really is not the bigger issue for our company or for our library," Lang said. "It's been a lack of exploitation, just not getting it out there."

Some people might even go as far as to say its what everything is about.
That's all it ever has been about. Literally. Stopping online piracy so that these money-whores can scrape together every single cent they can.

Though that isn't what SOPA actually is. SOPA is just a way to control what the people can say or view. Silence the internet and get it under their control, then the government decides what they want us to hear and see.

That sound an awful lot like corruption to me.

Lobbying is fine and all, but offering money for favorable policy's?

That's downright disgusting.

Hollywood backlash?

What are they going to do? Flood the market with more shit movies?

Revenge: Michael Bay now directs all movies.
Honestly, I think (with the aid of a less than legal substance) watching how Michael Bay would crap all over certain movies would be interesting.

"Coming this fall, a Michael Bay production... The Shawshank Redemption."

Can you imagine, instead of tunneling his way out, Andy Dufresne just blows everything to smithereens somehow? I'd see that.

DISCLAIMER: I don't do any drugs, but goddamn would I for that.
Come now, I don't think we have to sink so low as to use illegal substances to enjoy Mr. Bay's movies. Copious amounts of perfectly legal alcohol work just as well ;-)

NOTE: If you are under the age of 21 then the preceding statement means absolutely nothing to you. Carry on.

Remember that part where that one zombie-wizard scientist guy stabs that one chick in the cleavage with a sword?

Good times, good times.

So it is confirmed: Dodd has lost any and all conection to the real world. Obama is very much in support of anti-piracy and pro-copyright, but he had the good sense to not support an unfinished, illogical and absolutly ineffectual bill.

Just because they rejected the pipe dream of corporate control over the virtual market, the MPAA throws a fit like the spoiled brat it has proven to be all the years.

A threat to an industry looks VERY different then "not changing the status quo". The industry is still making money hand over fist. Perhaps the distribution of wealth could be adjusted so that the makeup artist, the camera guy and the hard working grip can still pay their health bills while the top management reduces its cut to a bit less then a million a year ?
How about not exploiting tax laws to avoid paying your dues ?

No ? Then the "Backlash" of Anonymous lovingly dDOSing your websites could be amped up to unearthing all those nasty skeletons of illegal dealings in your companies. I would book a flight to the states to attend the hearings of those scumbags.

Sometimes I'ld wish torches and pitchforks and a few hundred angry people at your estate where enough to set things like this straight.

Dear Hollywood,

I used to idolize you, I was starry eyed over the fantastic artists filling your scene, but now I see what you really are: A tight knit community of rich old ass holes who think they should be running the world simply because they're rich.

I have news for your: You're poisoning society with your greed and ignorance, your money is bullshit, and so are you. You're an Inland Empire and I honestly believe that before long you'll be ousted for the bigoted, homophobic, small minded pricks you are, and eventually everyone will not only subtly hate you, as they do now, but they will also be strong enough to destroy you, and more importantly live without you.

If I were you I'd just enjoy your already absurd wealth, shut the fuck up, and quit trying to run the country before the masses realize how you're trying to manipulate them into hating themselves and their fellow man so they won't hate you. Because when they do realize this as a whole, you will fall, and it will be messy.

Well, that's interesting, Mr. Chris Dodd, because, according to a recent Republican debate,

ALL

ALL

of Obama's competition hates you, SOPA, and PIPA.

So... the plan is boycotting a democrat's campaign because he dislikes two anti-piracy bills with the goal being... replacing him with people who give even fewer fucks about you and what you do. Good idea.

So in responce to a hell of a lot of people saying that this bill is a bad idea, hollywood then goes and proves that it does try to buy governments and that it might well have succeeded in the past. Oh and that hollywood is bascially pro censorship when the power is placed in the hands of hollywood and its friends.
Oh and if SOPA does eventually pass, as unlikely as it looks now there is still a chance, I am willing to bet that many people will either accuse or assume the american government was bought. Frankly the bill itself is a stupid, stupid idea, but it seems big business still thinks it can get its way no matter what the majority want...
Oh and as for the argument about losing money on avatar, it is probably one of if not the biggest grossing film ever made, so that really isn't the best example you could use for claiming piracy hurts the movie business...

Wasn't Hollywood essential made(as in a lot of East USA based companies moved there) to circumvent patent laws or something to that effect?

I agree somewhat.

I much prefer made for TV, high quality series to a movie.
Stuff like Game of Thrones, True Blood and Terra Nova is far more interesting than almost all movies coming out.
Also, the British mini (semi movie) series Sherlock [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/], which I highly recommend you check out if you haven't already.

But there are some movies I just must see.
Namely Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes and the Rum Diary.

They need to adapt or face lower profits.
They will never die, but surely they will need to adapt more to stay competitive.

If they managed to lose money on Avatar then they need to just close the studio down.

And not a single fuck was given, Mr Dodd. As the article correctly points out, should your donations to Obama's re-election campaign cease he'll have a nice, fluffy cushion to fall on, made from campaign funds gladly provided by various branches of the tech sector.

i just watched the video on the linked site and have never been more disgusted with america in my whole life.

"If jobs are threatened then blah blah blah" - WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS, how does the internet suddenly threaten more jobs today than in the last 20 years?

This whole SOPA bullshit has never been about justice or legal actions, its just dirty fear-mongering coupled with corporate greed through lobbyism.

It makes me sick to the stomach to have to endure bullshit like this without even being able to influence it.

I guess he's going to have to find a way to distance himself from this or find a way to please everyone (while helping no one). Such is the way of my country's politics. So it goes.

Another reason why Lobbying is a broken and corrupt system.

I'm down with boycotting Hollywood. Nothing good is really coming out for a while.
