Well...I hope the MPAA is ready for a much larger backlash when the people who put them in business (i.e. regular, internet loving people) begin boycotting their products as a result of their greed.
Um... the MPAA doesn't produce anything. They're a lobbying group. Their stated goal is to support the film industry... and it's primarily the major film studios who fund them. They're also the people who rate films for the US (G, PG, R, etc.).

Good luck boycotting them, though!

Well thank god he's not using another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals.

Oh wait...

Ummm... Obama's the incumbent, he doesn't need to campaign for 2012. He's pretty much got the spot.

hmmm... That article did seem quite fair and balanced. I'm a little scared. HOLY CRAP IT IS 2012!!!

Fox News, eh? I'll wait and see if another news outlet speaks on the issue. Thanks for the news though!

Dodd, who became CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America after leaving the Senate in 2011..
Might as well read 'Dodd, who was promised the position of CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America after leaving the Senate if he protected the interests of hollywood during his term..'

I personally think anybody campaigning to lead a country should only have let's say £100,000 to spend so that nobody is given a hugely unfair advantage and big businesses can't pay people off or try to scare them like this.

Perhaps also make it so campaigners get the same venues and air-time as each other too to prevent hollywood giving away free advertising.

Your attack doesn't hold much weight when there are more people and thus more money behind not support the bill. Also, who the fuck cares if the white house supports a bill that never reached the president? Congress is responsible for the bills. If he vetoed the thing you could be upset but not for this.

They've been surprisingly even-handed on this one. Especially the note about the tech sector probably making up for any drop in contributions was... unexpected.

Really? *blush* To be honest, I only skimmed the article once I saw it was from Fox News. My bad, and thank you for putting me in my place!

Hollywood's highest grossing year in history was 2010 (accounting for inflation)... what the fuck are they complaining about? They suddenly can't afford to pay everyone?

Looks like the MPAA is fighting back after the successful blackout from two days ago.

This is bad news for us.
If you read the article, it becomes clear that it might not even matter, since Hollywood has already given more money than it did last time, this lobbyist not included, and that Obama might make up the cash easily by getting it from "Tech companies" such as Google.
So it's all good.

Cant those damn fossils take a hint? Why cant they go like the dinosaurs and pertinently fuck off!

I mean seriously they are trying to stop the future of the media, they are just afraid of change and being left for dead.

Wasn't Hollywood essential made(as in a lot of East USA based companies moved there) to circumvent patent laws or something to that effect?
Exactly. It was in the middle of "nowhere" and there were less chances of being bullied by goons hired by the people you owed money to.

Plus, it was sunnier than New York.

So he's angry that he couldn't buy himself a politician? I can't help but feel that he just outed himself as a scumbag.
Pretty much. Hey look its the motivation behind my support for occupy wall street ALL on one lovely news article. Lovely.

The politician passes corrupt laws to make the company happy. The compnay pays the politician to win. The voter gets shit on. And now the politician isnt playing ball because on this case he isnt a corrupt uncaring scumbag. And hollywood has the balls to get OUTRAGED by this sudden burst of morals?! Im amazed.

Basically all the guys said is "Im disgusted you are caring for the people who vote for you more than the person whos paying you to pass the laws I WANT so i can make more money". Nice.

SO let me get his straight. Dodd's point was Avatar was pirated 21 million times. Ok point taken.

But i guess what Dodd forgot to mention, was Avatar made almost 2 BILLION dollars wordlwide. (counting 3D tickets sales as well, and DvD sales) It is claimed as THE HIGHEST grossing movie of all time.

Yeah....Pirating sure is hurting the movie industry.

Yeah I noticed that too. And actually Avatar made 2.8 billion dollars worldwide, just from the box office ticket sales (so not including DVD sales).

If we assume at least $10 a ticket, thats ~280 million people who paid to see the movie in the theater...compared to 21 million downloads. Looks like piracy is a small problem.

Heh. If Hollywood openly stands against Obama, that's almost enough for me to give him my vote right there, just out of sheer spite.

Unless, you know, there's a better candidate available.

Obama, as president you have my support. I may not like some of your policies, but as a Patriot I support you. I am telling you, you have to stand firm, look at Chris Dodd in the face, and tell him with all the honesty you can muster in your heart and your face: "Keep your money, I'm not being bought!"

You do that, you automatically win my vote, even if my family hates it.
