I like how they say the first salaries to go are those of the people who do all the work. Like Hollywood is going to fire all the cameramen and production assistants and then just wallow in their own shit like someone who's cut off their own limbs.

Hollywood backlash?

What are they going to do? Flood the market with more shit movies?

Revenge: Michael Bay now directs all movies.
Oh the horror! Please no!

OT: Now Hollywood has exposed it's true, money-minded face. There, always been wanting to say that.

I think the "Avatar was pirated 21 million times" argument would hold a lot more weight if it wasn't also the highest grossing movie of all time.
Adjusted for inflation, "Gone With the Wind" beats it.

And i all honesty, I'm not worried. No one really takes Hollywood that seriously anymore.

I can tell what their revenge is going to be...
Slumdog Millionaire 2.

The original was arguably the worst movie ever made. Now imagine a forced sequel with pretty much no budget.

SO let me get his straight. Dodd's point was Avatar was pirated 21 million times. Ok point taken.

But i guess what Dodd forgot to mention, was Avatar made almost 2 BILLION dollars wordlwide. (counting 3D tickets sales as well, and DvD sales) It is claimed as THE HIGHEST grossing movie of all time.

Yeah....Pirating sure is hurting the movie industry.
I just love the argument he makes that somehow piracy will mean that producers won't be able to pay their cameramen and whatnot. Oh yes, poor producers, I can certainly see how paying minimum wages to film crews can be difficult when you're only barely scraping together enough money to buy Belgium!
To be fair, that's for big producers. For new IPs (Usually it's much smaller studios that put out new IPs), the piracy rate tends to be higher since people don't want to 'commit' money to something they may not like. Since the big companies love their remakes/sequels/prequels/interquels/retellings/whatever, piracy generally hurts the little guys and the big guys bring in record breaking sales regardless.

Well...I hope the MPAA is ready for a much larger backlash when the people who put them in business (i.e. regular, internet loving people) begin boycotting their products as a result of their greed.
Um... the MPAA doesn't produce anything. They're a lobbying group. Their stated goal is to support the film industry... and it's primarily the major film studios who fund them. They're also the people who rate films for the US (G, PG, R, etc.).

Good luck boycotting them, though!
Ah, yes. That is true...

Damn you lack of caffeine!!!!!

I'll boycott them by taking 12 year olds into PG-13 movies! Take THAT MPAA!

Im pretty sure that the Lorry drivers, make-up artists and cameramen dont see a penny of the profits. They get a flat wage surely? Avatar was pirated 21 million times they say....Because the film outside of 3D is pretty lack lustre the story is an albeit well done rehash of the most story premise in history but even the visuals arnt really they spectacular outside of 3D. Guess what most people dont have. 3D TV.

Why would you pay for that film if you cant watch it in 3D. Plus many of us paied 2 or 3 times the going rate at the cinema to see it in 3D. So you made more right off the bat. Also, you fail to include people who already own the film but chose to stream it online for convinience.

IDK about anyone else, but Ive moved house really and I have no idea where most of my games or films are. As a result if I wana watch or play something I just download it. I already OWN the damn thing, why should I not be allowed to stream/DL it?

You know what?

I'm never going to the theater again until their obsession with killing the free Internet is over. Suck on that, Hollywood.

Admittedly, I'll still be using Netflix, but as I live in my parent's house, I kind of can't cancel it when they still want it. Harm's already done, so I may as well use it anyway.

Still, threatening to cut off Obama's funding? I approve. The right thing for the wrong reasons.

Fox News

I'll pay it more heed when its covered by a REAL news outlet
You do know that Fox News is rated the most trusted news outsource in America. Its DOUBLE the news rating of MSNBC AND CNN COMBINE. Americans rate both MSNBC and CNN trust worthiness very low.

The reason you don't like Fox news is it doesn't follow the liberal point of views.

And yet, the people who "trust" Fox News tend to be very poorly informed.

no ...

i don't like them cause they talk out of their asses a lot, there's a lot of things they've reported on, that they've ether been flat WRONG on, or didn't research properly. pretty hard to take a 'news' organization seirusly when you can, with out ever trying, punch massive, and fatal wholes in their arguments.

as for my political alignment, there isn't a single politician i trust, on any side, every one of them is full of shit to one degree or another, and not one is to be trusted, ever

The American people got tier of the liberal bullshit from the liberal new media outlet.

The sad part about the people that hate Fox News is that they don't know that they got brainwashed by the liberal outlet. They called supporters of fox news ill informed but they themselves never question the liberals news outlet that feed them liberal propaganda.

I'm surprise to be honest that MSNBC or CNN still in business. Their rating is at the bottom.

No your hatred for Fox News is that it gives a different opinions other than the liberals news outlet. You have been brainwashed to think that the only correct news are the liberal versions.

All news outlet makes mistakes and yet you do not hold the same standard for the liberal network as you do for Fox News. Fox News is rated the most trusted news network in American by Americans because it DOES give a fair central opinion in the debate.

Yep, pirates will decimate the market. Not because they steal from the actual sales, but because the owners are upset that they aren't getting as much money as they could be.

What...the....What?
Not sure why I'm surprised, but this is quite ridiculous. However, if you break it down, it really isn't that new a concept. "You did something I don't like so I'm not going to help you." Of course we know Obama did the right thing but listening to the public (though, he was against it from the start if I remember correctly), so that's probably why it is shocking to me. Vast majority show opposition after READING the bill, or at least having a clear understanding of its effects, while others just think it's a nothing more then just some bill to stop piracy and then you have the people who have read the bill, but have no real understanding of the internet. At any rate, Obama just seems to get shit no matter what he does. Kinda feel bad for the guy.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/01/19/exclusive-hollywood-lobbyist-threatens-to-cut-off-obama-2012-money-over-anti/

This is bad news for us.
Not really, no.

Obama will win the 2012 election for, if nothing else, the simple reason that his opponent, no matter if it is Gingritch or Romney, has already defeated himself in the public's eyes.

The virulent, angry debacles of the republican debates has ruined their chances of actually getting into office.

Romney is a thoroughly untrustworthy, out-of-touch slimeball who does not have the support of his own party and Gingritch is an arrogant asshole who alienates broad swaths of voters every time he opens his mouth.

The Republicans shot themselves in the collective foot trying desperately to find someone who was not Romney to put up against Obama and now, their window of opportunity has basically closed for 2012.

It's impossible to look at any of the remaining candidates without seeing their endless and endlessly embarrassingly performances during the debates.

With or without Hollywood's support, Obama is very very likely to win.
