I don't hate it. I just don't like it. There are much better things to watch. And I don't see how it's any different to other cartoons except that it's made in Japan (I think), the guys have odd hair, and at the start of every fight or attack, they hover in the air with flashy shit behind them.

I'm not a fan really, some of the animations and looks can get on my nerves. But strangely enough however, a friend of mine has let me borrow series 1 of Bleach. I've only seen the first 3 episodes so far but i'm actually enjoying it, which really suprised me.

Look at the 20 most popular anime shows and tell me they don't all look almost the fucking same.

That's just one gripe about it, but then there are the stories, the aforementioned stupid expressions and the ridiculous voice work...
Yeah, because if you want some non main stream media you check out the main stream of the the alternative.
Check out Welcome To The NHK and tell me that's something you've seen before. It's deep and psychological, without anyone with superpowers or adventures.
The problem with a lot of anime is Dragonball Z. The original Dragonball manga was great for 42 books and I really think it was full and complete with an open ending. Then they made Dragonball Z and a ton of seasons. Now lots of anime is copying that style by making lots of episodes rather than quality. There are a few golden ones there, but I can't really pay attention to something when it goes past 40 episodes.

Yes I enjoy watching it, but that doesen't mean I don't watch native programs as well. Either way, I am a fan of One Piece, Bleach, Cowboy Bebop, FMA, and Samurai Champloo.

Whoa there.

You seem to be painting with an awfully wide brush. There are actually quite a few anime titles that don't use any exaggerated visual and/or vocal expressions like the one you just pointed out such as for example:

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Now and Then, Here and There
Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Serial Experiments Lain
Texhnolyze
Ergo Proxy
Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Gunslinger Girl
Karas
Witch Hunter Robin
Green Legend Ran
Voices of a Distant Star
Paprika
Perfect Blue

Okay. I could continue naming titles but I think I've made my point.
I never said all of them did, but it's enough to make me think twice about watching an anime.

I do like anime movies (is that a different word?) like Appleseed though. I will check out Ghost in The Shell, that seems interesting. Is Code Geass any good?

Very selectively liking it...

Trust me, there's always a reason to nitpick as perfection is non-existant.

Congratulations on discovering what might be the single greatest comic you'll ever read.

Like it. The first ones where so new and unique that I just had to keep watching them. Over time it just gets more and more repeative, but there are still alot good gems to find there. Even the most rehashed works can hold atleast one interesting or unique aspect in them.

But what I really like about anime (and manga), is that it has so many niche categories and it has this overall indie feeling about it.

In my own personal opinion Code Geass is pretty decent. Not the best I've ever watched. There were some parts that I liked very much and others that I really didn't care for. And for me the ending took some getting used to. I actually understand why the series ended the way it did but all the same if I had been writing it I would have done things a little bit differently. But nevertheless I would say the story as a whole is interesting enough to be worth checking out and it definitely does have it's good moments.

And if you're wondering about the visual and/or vocal exaggeration thing, then Code Geass is definitely a safe bet for you. Whenever someone gets emotional in the series or whenever a comical situation happens the expressions are generally (if not totally) kept within realistic boundaries. Looking back I can't really recall a single instance in the series when any kind of stylized exaggerated expressions or face faulting was used.

So there's my two cents for what they're worth.

You should check out Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories.

If there's any anime feature that has nothing in common with the popular anime that you see today (except ofcourse that it's Japanese and animated), it's this movie.

Read this review and see for yourself.

If I don't have to read it I'm fine.
It's not that I don't like reading but if I'm doing that then I can't watch it....Ya'know?

I know, I've read almost all of them. BUT KENTAURO MIURA IS SO SLOW! Good god I swear the sun will go out before he finishes that damn series....
