I like anime sometimes. I like the more adult oriented ones, Bleach and such suck to me anymore. I love Ghost in the Shell and that kind of heavy sci-fi anime.

I used to be into it in middle school, which is why i had no friends. then i grew out of in in late freshman year and realized how gay i was for being so into naruto. i mean come on, it's cool that they're ninjas, but they don't do it like the ninjas from the awesome 80's ninja movies, they're like technicolor ninja kids.

then when i went back to my home high school where all the kids i knew from middle school went plus a lot of other kids, i was a changed person. it took me a year, but i'm now right where i should be; in the video gamer clique, which is pretty damn big. halo reach and monster, you know it. so now i stay from anime because the anime/otaku group at my school is GAWD UGLY. i mean, if you show any communication with these kids, you're labeled "one of them". there's fat hidious and annoying goth girl, a super quirky asian kid who wears the same coat everyday, this one freaky black kid who looks like an evil bob marley, and then some other kids unwanted by society.

lastly, on halloween, my girlfriend went some 3-day anime convention instead of hang out with me );

so that's how i see it; not only does it make you unwanted by society but it also got in the way of my relationship. fuck you naruto.

pokemon is still the shit though, never forget that.

Isn't this like asking how I feel about books, or movies?

90% of it is awful. 10% is good - just like every other genre of entertainment on the planet.
it is the same thing except there aren't kids who dress up as leonardo dicaprio when they go to see inception. no wait, i was wolverine for x-men 3, nevermind

If people did more dressing up as characters they liked, the world would be a better place. :D

Plus, don't forget all the Jedi that attend Star Wars premiers...

You've also got to think about it from the "campy" aspect. Sure it's ridiculous and inane 90% of the time, but look at the evil dead series; those were some bad fucking movies, but its still the best trilogy of all time.

Personally, I LOVE it. I just wish some of the fans weren't such assholes about it. For instance, it's come to my attention that Naruto-haters are starting to become just as annoying as the fanboys.

my feelings on this subject, though I agree there are some anime that could be better.
And I hate Naruto but only because it is always held up as a reason anime sucks.

And another one is lost to the slavery of following societal norms.
Learn to be who you are, I was the one guy in highschool who interacted with every clique and had friends from every walk of life. People pick up on when you're trying to fit in and not being yourself.

Learn to bring things up when they are appropriate. Talk about anime with the anime kids, talk about vidya gaems with the gamers, talk about sports with the athletes. When you learn to separate and compartmentalize the different aspects of your life you can fit in in a lot of places without stifling who you are.

And I went as a Death Eater/Dementor (just a black robe, served both purposes) for the OotP movie and final book; it was better received at the book release.

Actually, a lot of what determines eye size is a pretty basic innocent/seedy dichotomy that you see in western animation; in The Simpsons, many of the characters have bug-eyes while Moe and Mr. Burns are beadier, and in many a shonen series the idealistic young hero has big eyes while older, more cynical characters are also beadier.

Really, I think the only animated series that don't do this are the ones that go for outright realistic character designs (i.e King of the Hill).

I know, I've read almost all of them. BUT KENTAURO MIURA IS SO SLOW! Good god I swear the sun will go out before he finishes that damn series....
Yeah, he is taking his sweet time. But when you consider how richly detailed the art is, it's not too surprising that the new chapters take a while.

I haven't been too impatient about it since I'm not digging the Fantasy arc as much as the previous ones: I don't like what Kentaro has done to Farnese's character and I'm not a fan of the Berserk armor either.

Had this long haitus happend during the "Sacrifice" chapters (you know the one I mean), I would've gone insane with anticipation.

Anime, is one of those things capable of going places movies or TV's can't or it can go too far, which makes it a make it or break it situation.

I enjoy many series and there are others I can't stand.
Just like what he said. I already have 2 anime that are tied for the lead (imo) of how great anime can be and how it can separate itself from other forms of visual entertainment.

These anime were manga first but that isn't the point. These stories were copied and imitated MANY times but, to me, could never be surpassed. The characters react in a certain way that couldn't really be done just as well by real life actors.

Well... there's a lot of dross and some real gems...

First came to my attention, beyond iconic oldies like speed racer and astroboy, on those Orion and later, Manga (company) VHS releases. At the time, I'd never seen "cartoons" like that. At that time in my life I had a sincere, but ultimately passing, interest in becoming an animator and was impressed by the technical audacity of the productions made with classical animation. That, coupled with whacked out sci fi stories I was actually interested in, made it all an easy sell.

Every 4-6 years I'll re-investigate the medium and try and find some favorites out of what people are squawking about.

I love anime. And as a response the comment in the OP about anime not being better than animation from any other country:

I personally feel like they take it more seriously and handle it more professionally. How many non-anime animated movies/series have movie-like shots editing pacing, script, etc. In the west we tend to think "animated" to be synonymous with "Children-oriented".
Which i guess relates back to how the general public in the west views video Games as being mainly for kids (and thus outraged when videogames are released with content not aimed at kids), while i get the impression that in Japan teen and adult oriented games are more easily accepted for what they are.
I can respect them trying to do something different with animation, but I don't see how that should make them better than others. I'll take your example of making the anime seem like a live action flick. It is commendable, but not what I want from an animated feature. If I see something that is animated, I want to see where they can go with it technically, instead of trying to emulate something else.

I will however, disagree with you on the movie like editing and pacing. 300+ episodes of filler is not good pacing. (I realize that is a gross generalization, but you get my meaning)
Like you admitted the lack of pacing is a generalization, and a valid one, as more than 50% of the most popular (and moneymaking) animes are long, dragged-out attempt of squeezing as much money as possible from one series. On the other hand, there is obviously a HUGE difference between series like Naruto (80+ Fillers!?!), and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0(or the more common 24-26 episode series like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan and Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu).
