I question why pain is an undesired feeling. I try to feel pain as I would feel a different feeling like a breeze. so I just say "why does pain hurt?" and then I get confused and when I start paying attention again the pain has been over for awhile.

Well, if it's pain when exercising people say you should focus on something you really want, and that what you're doing somehow helps you on your way with that.

Personally I find the "pain" (when exercising) leaves my mind blank, which I quite like.

If it's pain-pain then I'll either swear like mad or I'll breathe deeply once and get over the initial shock.

Cry, it takes the sad out of you. Psychical pain is completely different though, depending on what kind of pain it is I'll take a few Tylenol and lay down...

If it's a pain that grows in intensity, like a pinch, or a bite, then providing it's not in too sensitive a place, I can dull it. I've been bitten on my forearm to the point where it was bleeding and there was a mark for over a week. I was quite impressed with myself.

Instant pain like punches on the other hand, and I keel.

I poke the source of the pain. It's stupid, i know, but i just can't help it.

For the record i have both a cold and toothache at the moment, every time i sneeze it feels like someone's ripped my tooth out.

There are two things in life that makes me feel alive. Pain, and love. And since I lack the latter, I'm getting my kicks from pain. Without this pain it feels like I'm dead inside.

So I accept any kind of pain, not ignoring it but instead loving it. For a long while I've been tripping on psycological pain. That's the kind that people don't question, because they can't tell!

I'm sick up there in mehead, and I love it!

I don't ignore it, I embrace it. Pain is one thing that lets me know I'm still alive. In a sense, I view it as a good thing.
I don't ignore it, I STARE IT DOWN.

I curse in my head and outloud as long as I'm alone. I also put pressure on it or give it a slap to tenderise it or something.

I don't know.Although,I am not the best person to speak to about pain.I am very unaffected by painful stuff.I was once hit in the stomach pretty hard and I din't feel it.So you might want to go ask someone with regular pain tolerance.

Clench my teeth and tense all muscles still. I'm actually a really active person, but for some reason, I am incapable of hurting myself. I was biking, accidentally slammed on the front wheel brake to the point where it stopped turning, and I was hurtled off the front where I somehow gracefully landed uninjured. Because of my natural prowess (?) the worst pain I ever feel is at the dentists office. Goddamn I cant stand those little metal thingys.

I just brood. I go and pretend to enjoy myself while wishing I could be asleep or something.

Ignore pain? No. Ignoring pain is stupid, you're body is in pain for a reason. Something is causing you harm.

Understand the pain so that I can prioritize and work through it? Yes.

I.e. FUCK my arm hurts! Hmm, I appear to have impaled it with an arrow. Ignoring this would be foolish. Instead, I will acknowledge the arrow, as I am now aware of what my body is trying to tell me, and I will make haste to correct this intrusion upon myself.
I have a friend who said that almost word for word when he managed to inadvertently impale his arm with an arrow in a regrettable archery accident. He just replaced any of the words above that weren't 'arm' or 'arrow' with 'fuck'.

OT: Find out what's causing the pain, deal with it.
e.g. My neck hurts because I've been sitting in the same position for the last 4 hours. I'll move.
Or: My hand hurts because there's a cat clawing at it. I'll move.
Most of these come down to "I'll move". Apart from when I got kicked by a cow. The moving was done for me, and it didn't help the pain at all.

I swear constantly in my head. I dunno why but it does actually help. I went to the dentists once and had a filling done without anaesthetic. I just thought of a stream of swear words while he was drilling, and it helped distract me from it.
Shame it wouldn't be as practical out loud..
It's usually much funnier when done out loud though XD

Me, I have one method for ignoring pain, and it hasn't failed me yet
