When I was 7 i cried because i let someone have a play around on my pokemon red and they saved over my game when I'd nearly caught them all.

I have NEVER made that mistake again.

Weeeellll......
Every save that disappears is because of me, because I delete them.
The only one I hated was when Minecraft crashed on me, and I lost my roughly 10 hours of diamond and obsidian farming to make an Inky Pacman ghost out of diamond blocks...
I WAS DEPRESSED.

Well I just lost all three years of xbox 360 data last night when my Hard drive decided that it didn't like life anymore, and I'm mostly annoyed about having to fork out money for a new one.

I'll go be in my corner then.
Though honestly i'll be pretty pissed if i was a fair way or even an hour in and it may stop me playing the game for awhile.

Depends on the game, was pissed when my Fallout 3 saves - and 80+ hours with it - disappeared during a hard drive sweep, but the loss of my Soul Calibur 4 one pretty much only brought on some renewed interest in playing it and unlock characters and equipment once again.

The last time I lost a game save was with the PS2, when I lost the memory card. It's worse than just saving over a file. If you save over a file, depending on what happens you MIGHT be able to recover it(sometimes you can get lucky). If you lose your storage device, you're pretty much fucked, especially since you still have to replace it with monies.

The last times that happen to me was when I had Timesplitter 2 and while at school my bro was playing it and turn it off while it was saving. Much to my surprise when I got home to find the game was corrupt. I was pissed off with my bro for a while since some of the task to unlock some of favourite characters was hard.
Another one after that was Phantasy Star Online on the Gamecube. I love that game so much since I had invested hours into it and had gotten very rare weapons (I had both Delsaber blade and shield). Again much to my surprise the file was corrupted and I didn't touch the game again for a few years (it was too painful to play the game again in a attempt to reclaim my lost rare stuff).

It depends on the game but generally I'll probably stop playing unless I really just like playing the game. It wouldn't bother me in Oblivion for example because I find the game is more entertaining when you are just starting out.

Meh, it's not much of a big deal, I know most of what to expect so getting back to where I was doesn't take long, it's a mild pain in the ass, but there's nothing I can do about it but just get back to where I was. Although, the only save games I regularly lost were on the PS1 (the first console I ever owned where I actually could save the game instead of using a lengthy password), so I've got no idea about it now.

The further I get into a game before deletion, the longer my knees-on-the-ground-shouting-to-the-sky NOOOOO is and the least likely I am to try and play through it again.

Unless, UNLESS it is a game where you just have to unlock additional content. Like racing or fighting games. Then, after a significant amount of time has passed, I'm actually glad the data was erased so I have a reason to play it again. (This just happend recently to my copy of Burnout Paradise, I couldn't be happier having reason to play that game again.)

Well, nowadays I very rarely lose a save file, almost never, in fact. So if it does happen I tend to just get pretty annoyed, then calm down and leave the game for a while, coming back to it later and simply starting again after maybe a week or two.

In the past, though, I used to lose save files quite a bit, purely because my brother tended to delete my files out of spite if we'd been arguing, or by accident when playing on the same console. We have a shared PS2 at home, but I'm at university now and live in a differnet city so that problem isn't exactly a problem now. Back when it was, I usually dealt with the problem by flying off the handle at my brother, causing him physical pain if he'd done it deliberately (which was usually the case), then starting a new game.

Nowadays, as I say, it's no longer a problem. When I'm home for holidays we tend to play different games, so neither of us accidentally deletes anyone's save file, and we usually share a file on sandbox and casual games (the only ones that we both like to play). He's grown out of deleting my files out of spite, thank God. As for my mum's Wii, or my Xbox 360, we have different accounts. I don't mind him playing on my Xbox, provided he only uses his own Gamer profile, if he ever uses mine without permission then violence will ensue (but he's smart enough and sensible enough not to do that). So that's enough to ensure our save files are kept seperate and nothing gets deleted by accident :).

I think the biggest save file I lost was my sonic adventure 2 battle one where I had 175/180 emblems, I decided to do the purple world glitch in the chao world for lulz and the game froze when I visited the chao stadium, when I reloaded the game up, the save file was blank, no information on it, and when I checked it, it was all gone. The only thing not destroyed was the Chao garden file, which stopped the whole thing from being a disaster.

Depends on the game. It's enough to rage quit for months if it's a Final Fantasy long game, I'm on disc three, and the file corrupts.

Call of Duty long games, it's just a chance to go take a bathroom break. I never prestige, anyway. Waste of my damn time.

When I was living at home I shared my PS2 with my bros. I had a file on FF12, nice 40 hour file, and one of my brothers asks if he can start playing the game. I say yes. He saves over my file. Brotherly abuse ensues.
In all honesty I wasn't too fussed really, I'd kinda grown tired of the game. But still, seeing all that progress flitting away is really quite painful.

I haven't had an accident like that since the last gen consoles. These newfangled things we call personal accounts really solved that problem.
I can sum up every file override thats happened to me like this: Whoever had the #1 save slot got theirs overridden by whoever was using the #2 save slot because we would just keep tapping the X button (Or other console equivalent) to power through the menus and accidentally override the #1 slot.
