In Canada we are trained from a young age to fight off wild animals with nothing but our bare hands.

The escapist is a global community, and I was curious to know how do the citizens of other countries see Canada, be honest.

Edit: If you guys haven't figured out, I am Canadian, and Curious.

just found out everyone in my US history class wants to go to war with canada

when i asked why, the majority answer was "what have they ever done for us?" (2nd place was "they dont have good bacon")

...this is one (of many) example of why i dont want to live in america anymore

Now I would like to know why people keep talking shit about french Canadians. Ok you're right some of us do tend to be a little snobbish, but after visiting many places I find people in general to be a little snobbish. The bigger question is why some of us tend to be that way... Look up your historical facts. France pretty much left us to die when the British attacked, and English Canadian's ancestors are British troops and American loyalists that fled the US during the revolution. Not only that but for a few hundred years after that our culture, our right of speech and basically our freedom was beaten down. Look up how politics worked after the war and how land was taken away from us and how we were treated... then you will understand.
The thing I don't like is that it's taught in schools that just about every problem francophone Canadians face is the result of anglophones "crushing your culture". I'm not proud of my ancestors, that's for sure, because they really did do shit like this. They were trying to force everybody to speak English... which is a pretty shitty language that has all these stupid, silly rules.

I don't feel like a true Canadian because I can't speak French. The schools don't teach it right, hardly anybody learns how to speak it. It's not that we don't care (though some students don't), it's just hard to learn a new language. By the way, matgc23, your English is perfect. I understood every word.

Oh yeah, and if I speak English in Quebec, I could get jumped or beaten. They HATE us. Maybe not you or other young people, but the older people who still feel that old sting.

Canada is where they shot all of SG-1 and SGA, so that counts for something. for me its just a low profile country, where nothing major ever happens for best or worst. a good place to live/travel in, tho.

I dig Canada, my best mate is living there and two of my favorite musicians (Buck 65 and Feist) are Canadian.

Hopefully I'm going to visit over chrismas next year =)
Canadian advice on how to survive Canadian winters: Bring a warm hat, gloves and coat, and invest in a good pair of boots.

I love Canada. There's beer, good music, video game developers, maple syrup, and hockey.

Nothing says sport like throwing a Canadian into a glass wall.

Edit: Almost forgot the God of breakfast food, BACON!

Canada. Like the USA, but a bit better. You have Margaret Atwood and Dave Sim, you have Wayne Gretzky. Like the USA except it's not politically correct to hate you. I like Canada.

Time for a great song!

Canada Song by: The Arrogant Worms

Between the ice caps of the North Pole and the States of America,
There's a country in the middle that is known as Canada.
Where the natives all are happy and the lakes are fresh and clean.
There is no unemployment and no one is mean.
In the summer there's no mosquitoes and the winters are never cold
There is no clear cut logging and no o-zone hole.
Oh Canada your leaders are so swell; in Canada no one ever goes to hell.

No criminals or taxes and Visa never phones.
Elvis is alive in Moose Jaw but we leave him alone.
Cuz' we're in Canada, whose army is so strong.
In Canada, no one has to mow their lawn.
No waiting for the buses; no standing in a line.
The banks are all non-profit, and the dollar flows at 99.9(that's American you know).
So shout Canada, the courts are always fair.
Shout Canada, where mechanics never never swear.
(I hurt my finger on the darn manifold, ooh that's smart!)

The Rednecks and the Hippies live in perfect harmony,
Growing wheat and marijuana together hydroponically.
Nobody has pimples and the sky are all so clear;
And when Jesus Christ comes back to earth, I know he'll be born here.
The phone lines are never busy, and you're never put on hold.
Canada's the country carved entirely from gold,
Oh in Canada, everyone says please.
In Canada, no one ever cuts the cheese.
Oh Canada,
Oh Canada,
The country of love is the country for me.
Canada, starts with a 'C'!

The only thing that comes to mind is ridiculously low population density.

as i said im American, one that hates America with a passion and dreams of moving to Canada whenever possible, or Ireland, or England, one or the other.

It's obscure but not really a bad place to live. Also, they have a strange pathological hatred of America for some reason.
