1995-Since it was possible for me to hold a controller and actually play the game. (4 years old)
I managed to beat sonic 1 and 2 with all the chaos emeralds by the time i got to 5.
Played the remade version of donkey kong for the GB. Remember when the N64 was the most awesome jump in technology ever...
Blowing into cartridges ...It worked.
Really off topic but I just want to clarify that Donkey Kong for Gameboy is like the hardest game ever made. Ever. This thing makes... like I mean ANYTHING on the HIGHEST DIFFICULTY look like child's pay.

Did you ever finish it? I got to 8-3 I believe?
Based on the arcade game, which is not an easy game itself.

They had to make arcade games difficult, otherwise people would get bored with them.

Nobody has stated they started gaming in the 80s yet, so here goes.

First started gaming in probably the mid 80s, 1985 or 86 perhaps on the ZX Spectrum. Over 20 years then, and more than half my life. Scary stuff!
I did, but the info didn't show what I thought it had!

Since around the age of 4. As soon as I could work the keyboard I played videogames. Of course, I had to get someone to start the game for me cause DOS is a ***** but thats beside the point. I still remember playing Hocus Pocus on a black-and-white laptop.

I got a Gameboy Colour in 1999. My next piece of rad hardware was an Xbox 360, which I got the summer before last. In the short interim, I dabbled in whatever our current piece'o'crap PC could run. So I'm a relative 'noob' to all this. Oh, I also played things like PS2 and Gamecube when I had access to them.

Since somewhere betwwen the ages of 5 and 7, so that would be somewhere in the region of '97 to '99. I couldn't really pinpoint it.

Yeah I hear you. I keep reading 95, 98, etc. I keep thinking I was in high school then.

About...hmm maybe 1997 ish? I would be 4 at the time, what game was my first, I'm not sure
See that right there, not helping me not feel old.

OT: I had an Atari 2600. In around about '85 or so. The first one I actually got where I remember wanting games for it and understanding what was going on was the NES I got in about '87 or so.
Well at least we can take pride in actually knowing what we talk about.

Also, seriously kids who have been playing since they were 1-4. How the hell? WHY the hell? Could be my jealousy because there hardly was a thing known as gaming when I was 1-4.

Been playing since I was eight, but didn't get my first console until I got a PlayStation when I was 13.
Since then I've had every console that's come out, except for the PS3.
- though that time will come... probably next March.

I cant remember if I replied to this thread already. If not, than my magic number is 12. 12 glorious years of gaming from when I got an NES back when I was 9, and an N64 a few years later.

Yea, Twice. I remember 8-3 being the one that was the spike in difficulty. Where you have to timing you movments perfectly and within the correct time limit to pass...
It was such a fun game..

The first game I can recall playing was called "bouncing babies" - an unashamed clone of an atari classic on an early PC. I probably played it in the mid - late '80s. In 1990 my family got an NES but I recall playing arcade games long before then. By 1991 I had my own NES and black and white TV. By 1995 I had my very own SNES and color TV and my very own 486 (a computer, which was top of the line at the time. Its processor ran at about 66 MHz and it had 8 mb RAM). It was somewhere around that point that I was doomed to being a gamer, because somewhere along the way I played Doom and later Mechwarrior 2.

About...threeish?? I'unno.
My impoverished little family managed to find a nice, cheap SNES. On it, I did play super mario world and street fighter until my hands would shake...but it was a good pain.
So about since... '96 or so.

I made this thread just to say one thing. MW2 is Mechwarrior 2, and that's what I read every time I see those letters. Of course, I understand why it is used for Modern Warfare 2, it just keeps reminding me of how long I've been a gamer.

For me, ever since 1990. Got my NES. Also played PC games at the same time.
I've been gaming since I was 4, so that would be 1992.
First console was a Sega Megadrive (Genesis in America).

On the SNES... Good times with Super mario world, etc... Mid 90's...
EDIT: It also may have been Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (PC) that really got me into gaming...
