I believe that countries will eventually start closing off their borders. Freedoms will be suppressed for the greater good of the state. Then the ultra-mobs will come. Hungry people armed with whatever they can get their hands on. Millions of them. Like locusts, they will move across the world in a wave, devouring everything in their path. Anybody who is in their way will be torn apart and eaten. Governments that are not ready for this will be toppled easily. Religious freaks on both sides will be calling it the end times and believing that their cause is justified. In the end, only chaos will triumph.
Ever seen Children of Men?
Why yes I have seen children of men. If a crisis like that happened it would almost be a relief to the planet. Imagine 20 years where the population only went DOWN? No births at all. Crazy to think about it, but that would do alot to helping many of the worlds ills.

3 is too many. Look at what happens after a population goes through a period of explosive expansion - after a while the resources deplete faster than they can be replenished and you have a sudden contraction of population size. In our terms, meaning a lot of premature death.

2 kids, because then they fight each other, and not you.
That's genial. But it'd say two because if there were one or three, there'll probably be a left out one or one that can't socialise properly. (Experience told me this, but it could be fibbing.) Plus, if they're both the same gender, you can just make them share a room. It all comes down to a few things though.

Parent's Tolerance
Attitudes
Wealth
Size of abode. And a few other things.

As long as i have money to support then i'm easy... i'll leave the numbers up to my spouse as she would be the one who has to endure it. Adoption is also an option, being adopted myself means i would understand how to deal with possible situations that would arise.

Edit: if i was to put a number on it though i'd say 7 would be max... anymore then your plotting some sort of power grab.

All you need to know about this subject you can learn by watching idiocracy. Stupid people are breeding more frequently, and with more partners at a younger age. Smart people are having fewer kids and waiting for their careers to be established. Eventually, everyone is a moron.

But seriously, the world is heading towards overpopulation. Can we say that it is all the fault of china and india? Not so much. Traditions and religion do have a large responsibility in this crisis. If your grandmother had 10 kids and five of them died before they were 3, then your mother might attempt the same thing. But modern medicine has dramatically reduced infant mortality. In your grandmothers time she probably lived on a farm and each extra family member increased the farm output. Modern technology has led to the mechanization of much of the farm work. Coupled with the dream of a better life in the city, your mother probably moved to the city with your dad to seek employment where they could make money easier and faster.

Here is a scary statistic. Most of us will live to see the world hit 11 billion people. But the real question is where will those people be located? We know that a large chunk of them will come from the developing world. We also know that there will not be enough food to feed all of them. Will the wars of the future be over food rather than energy? And on the topic of energy, how will we power our cities for the new demand without completely polluting our environment?

I believe that countries will eventually start closing off their borders. Freedoms will be suppressed for the greater good of the state. Then the ultra-mobs will come. Hungry people armed with whatever they can get their hands on. Millions of them. Like locusts, they will move across the world in a wave, devouring everything in their path. Anybody who is in their way will be torn apart and eaten. Governments that are not ready for this will be toppled easily. Religious freaks on both sides will be calling it the end times and believing that their cause is justified. In the end, only chaos will triumph.

So, to answer the question: anything over 2.17 is too many.

Also overpopulation will never be a long term problem as the world and humanity will naturally kill off the excess people through disease/starvation/war/godzilla.

I have a friend who's one of six children. He always says he wishes his parents stopped with him (he's the third) but his may just be because the three younger than him anoy him...

I would say that more than three is irresponsible.

Although, I'm not a big fan of euthanasia, I very much agree with your point.
Think about it, no person or couple has EVER made a conscious decision to have a fifth child, let alone any after 5. Thus, by my made-up logic, every child past the fourth is an accident. I believe that every nation should have a law in place tying the tubes of all people after the birth of their fifth child, no matter how rich, religious, dumb, or fertile you are.

Personally I'm considering 2 kids (if the wife wants any more we'll get 'em fresh of the boat).

If you can afford them and still can live comfortably then it's ok.
I agree. They obviously can afford the children, they're not using them as an excuse for welfare, and the kids are well behaved and loved. As long as they can support them, I think it's great.

I believe in ZPG. Zero Population Growth. Thus, maybe one adopted child.
But then again, I'm too self-centered. So none.
