I don't really look down on any game or genre or the people who enjoy such; that would just be stupid. I do look down on attitudes that certain gamers have, though (which I actually tend to do a lot). So, partial snob, I guess. :\

I rarely play sports games, barring the occasional NFL Blitz or the like that doesn't take itself too seriously. By and large, I don't look down on people who do, but... If you're one of those people who buy the same game every year, differentiated solely by re-skins, some toggled numbers, and a new round of gouging DLC...? Please stop giving publishers the idea they can get away with that kind of crap...

I am frustrated by gamers who fall for the mainstream bullshit that passes for quality; they have fallen for the millions spent on pretty ads and propaganda, millions that were stripped from development costs. Yes how dare people find enjoyment in things I don't. They have simply been brainwashed to think they are having fun when in fact they are not having fun at all. Clearly the games I play should be the only type of games that exist because clearly videogames were made for ME only and not to appeal to a wide range of people!
If you enjoy playing with crap more power to you, but there is a difference between a game put together with passion and a game put together for pure profit. The latter will cut quality as much as possible, while the former will expand it as much as budgets will allow. Its ok, most people cant tell the difference
Enlighten us, then: if you are so special, can you tell us what the difference is and how to figure out that difference, so we won't "fall for their propaganda" anymore?

I don't look down on any genre. Even shitty games have good ideas to me.

As for gamers? ...um:

Girl Gamers, the ones who are like "LOOK AT ME I HAVE TITS AND I PLAY GAMES GIVE ME ALL THE DICKS." I will forever hate them. Just like I look down on sluts outside of gaming.

Old School/New School gamers, if it's not old/new they hate it. And hate you for maybe liking it a slight bit in passing or knowing someone who might have said something good about it. They're usually ranting about some kind of golden age.

and of course, the franchise fanboys. I'm not sure I know anyone who likes them. Whatever franchise they like is god's gift to mankind and must be worshipped.

...Actually I just kinda hate people of all sorts. Probably even you!
somewhat agree, sadly i know a few "girl gamers" like that, posting stupid status's like "LolLl playing COD with my mann, i'm such a NERDDD :D " and they'll get 30 likes over something so stupid.

tagging along with that, the frat doucher who is under the same umbrella..the attitude get's under my skin too much.

otherwise, yes, i can be snobby, i am snobby towards the hardcore elitists sometimes, the ones who don't play games for fun, but for the pure fact of e-peen swinging and winning, if they aren't doing those then they are rage quitting like the hulk or saying the game is fucking stupid and beneath them.

fuckin annoyed with anyone who is like that, usually in an instant it becomes my sole priority that day to annoy the shit out of you and troll you so hard until you rage quit the match/game.

Gaming snob? Well, nothing parts me from $10 faster then an indie game that is trying something new, no matter how poorly realized that mechanic is. And Ive caught myself trying to explain things like, "Ludonarrative Dissonance" and, "Mechanic/Dynamic/Aesthetic framework" to people who have never played a game beyond Monopoly in their life. But I also say that if a game is popular to any degree, it must have done something right, and ive bought every CoD game since 4. I avoid sports and racing games like the plague, but I also acknowledge when it seems to do something right, and can compliment a game even when its outside my taste.

I guess I can be insufferable, but I'm at least not a jerk.

More than you are, that's for sure. Hell, most of you were born in the 90's (or even the dreaded 80's), so I have more than a decade on you in my snobbery. Having to hear the major contributors to this website say Nintendo was the first gaming they had, makes me feel really fucking old. It also makes me not a PC gamer, since most people didn't realize PC gaming existed back then.

so sad, so sad
Well I was born in 1977 so we probably have similar gaming backgrounds.

Thats a false argument. Since I can say that a game that makes a large profit can be considered a good game, the best way to make profit would be to make a good game. Bad games don't sell no matter what your opinion is on that game.

I'm so much snobbish towards games so much as I am selective. For example, I just plain don't touch RTS games because I'm horrendously terrible at them. Also I haven't really found one that sparked my interest. Or, I don't play military shooters for those same reasons. However, I don't look down on any genres. I might consider certain games to be shit, but I'm not about to openly hate on any given game unprovoked. That's just kind of petty.

As for certain types of gamers... well. The ones who play one or two incredibly mainstream games and then claim to be a complete nerd/geek. Those ones can go away.

I'm a snob towards sports games because they're all the same.

I'm also a snob towards anyone who hasn't played Persona 4. Because, ya' know, it's a masterpiece and whatnot.

Not embarrassed by, but I dislike those gamers who like to make demands of developers like their petulant whinging matters a damn.

And the type who talk down to everyone else, because they play a certain title or use a certain system to play a GAME...
I swear, people will look back in 2000yrs time and think gaming was some sort of societal ranking system.
Pretty much this. Also the type that would rage about, say Bayonetta 2 being a WiiU exclusive, make me ashamed to call myself a gamer; in fact I think I'm going to stop referring to myself as one.

As for genres, there are very few genres of games that I won't try at least once if the title in question looks interesting enough.

I'm a snob that is incredibly hard to please with a game.

For one, art style does little for me if it looks like shit IMO. Borderlands... Yeah, I get its its art style, and reviewing it I wouldn't take points off for it, but I hate that look. Same goes for anything with Cel Shading, or overly cartoony graphics. I don't mind WoW style Cartoony graphics, and I like realistic graphics, though I also hate crossovers between the two where it tries to be realistic and incredibly detailed whilst keeping a cartoony look. That always looks horrible to me. Low resolution textures make my eyes bleed, and whilst I don't mind artifacts to the extent that some people seem to [Like noticing some minor jaggedness on a line near a light that's 100m away from the player at the time], if I notice bad jaggies I'm not going to be happy. Same goes for shadows. I cannot stand the Shadows in Dark Siders 2 because of how blocky they are. Its rediculous.
I hate controllers and gamepads absolutely. They are uncomfortable, completely inaccurate and the only upside to them is the ability to finely point down to the very degree which direction you want to go, which is utterly unnecessary in most games.
I don't touch any kind of sports game or racing game. They're just boring. If I want to do that sort of stuff I'll do it in real life and have a better time for it.

I look down on any game that looks like a generic action adventure/FPS game. Really, we have too many already, lets get some different games out there. I look down on people who buy CoD for full price year after year as really anything that actually has changed in the title is worthy of an expansion pack at best. I am highly unlikely to buy a game with less than 3 years development time, as in my experience every game with less time spent developing it than that has been rushed and bad.

I hate titles that change their style halfway through their series, like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. You want to create a cinematic shooter or an action fighting game? Cool, do so with a new IP. Don't force me to play through that crap though to continue the story I've already started.

I hate people who attack the WiiU and consider most of them idiots. The best ones are the ones I see who say its not next gen because it isn't made by Microsoft or Sony, and that it has no potential for anything because its a weak PoS that isn't made by Microsoft or Sony.

Coincidentally, I also hate Microsoft. Microsoft can die in a hole IMO thanks to the crap that is Windows, the Xbox and GFWL. I am extremely cautious of any EA title and I don't touch Activision titles unless they're made by Blizzard. Ubisoft I will only buy from if the game is exceptional, as its not worth putting up with their DRM BS otherwise.

I hate gameplay that isn't polished, or that relies on cheap tricks to defeat you rather than putting you in a situation where you have to plan with effective counters and roles, or with skill and precision.

I dislike all gamers that A: Can't tell the difference between publisher and developer (E.G. "Rage was an alright game, but Bethesda could've done better. What's with the DooM refferences?"), and B: When a game comes out and isn't what gamers want, they seem to rage the fuck out at the publisher instead of the developer (I've seen more hate towards EA than Bioware over the ending of ME3 and Dragon Age 2, and Activision over CoD.).

Aside from that...I couldn't give a shit.

I don't see a reason to look down upon games I don't like. If it's a popular game like BioShock then I guess that it's just not my style, if it's something people don't like such as Duke Nukem Forever then I guess there's a reason I dislike it. I just don't see the reason to get so intense about games I like or don't like that I have to ram it down your throat.

A: As a personal opinion, this one is pretty fucking hard to avoid, I do those mistakes all the time (The very few times I talk about publisher/dev anyway).
...

Well, originally I only wanted to awnser that one part of your post, but since I am already here...

B: Um. Pretty much the same as B. I honestly dont care enough about to know the dev/publisher of a game. I DO eventually get informed, of course, but its not until it is more than evident and I discover it from someone/somewhere else.

On a side note (Now of my own); I never understood the gamers that hate sequels with a passion, epsecially if they come out every year. For example, COD. Whatever the hell do you think of this fucking series, It comes out every year because it sells well, no big science. Deal with it, there isnt anything bad with the fact it comes out each year, and I am not talking only of COD now.

Really, so long as the quality of the games dosnt suffer for it, lauch sequels every 6 months if ya want. I wont complain.
Now, dont get me wrong, its certainly true that the less time between a serie´s games, the most likely the sequel (or prequel, or whatever the next game is), is going to be of inferior quality... but thats not always true,as demostrated with (IMO) COD, and just to put another not so hated-for-no-reason example, Bioshock 2. Oh, And left 4 dead 2, I heard that one was hated too. Oh well. I just dont like it when people reaction to a game´s sequel coming out in the next year or so is "OMG WTFLOL OMG ITS GOING TO SUCK BALLS AND GOING TO BE AN UNIVERSAL FAILURE!!!!111212" Insead of giving the damn game a fucking chance. That DOES make me mad, a little.

I just like playing games. :(

Sometimes, I get the feeling that I'm in the wrong place.
I am pretty sure everyone does.

In some way or another...

Even those who play solely for winning get their fun in a way, except its more like satisfaction in that one case...

Not as much of one as I used to be. I used to be one of the "PC Gaming Master Race" types. It's still my preferred platform but I've also moved on to accepting console games into my life.

I kind of had no choice when they released Destroy All Humans on consoles and didn't make a PC version of it. I ended up buying it for the PS2 and playing it at my brothers until I scrounged up my own console. I play games on the DS and on my Android devices.
