Monster, victim, witness: which are you?

Tallest man is last one standing.

What doesn't kill us, dies horribly.

A footnote to My magnificence, insect.

Those 6 words fit far better, if you ask me.

Pure animal agression in civilisation's glorified mask.

Truth is, we never stopped being primitive. We never stopped killing each other with sharpened sticks for the stupidest of reasons, the sticks just got bigger and shinier. You ask me, it's not invading aliens we need worry about. It's them that need fear us, the wreckless agressors, the destroyers of worlds.

Hate to say it, but you're a couple thousand years late on this idea. As Thucydides put it in the Melian Dialogues: "The strong do what they will, and the weak suffer what they must." It's not six words but it's very fitting.

As for good hard-wired into us... err what good? the only thing I can see is the willingness to adopt codes of conduct in order to stay in a group for better protection, the willingness to suffer for our offspring, and that's about all I can see as "good" in human nature, everything else do that could be considered "good" today is against our nature.
Yeah that's pretty much the Social Contract, you sound very Hobbesian, a human's life in the state of nature is 'nasty, brutish, and short.'

Why do we define ourselves by terms like 'good' and 'evil'? You folks do realize that those don't actually exist in the world, correct? Good and evil are concepts we've developed in response to what we like and dislike. I bet my idea of good and evil is completely different then yours. Do you think cancer is evil, or tigers, because they follow their nature? To put it simply, stop trying to define humanity by concepts we developed, it just shows your bias.

To ruin everything with science, ever noticed how people feel good when others agree with them while they're pushing for a common goal? That's because whenever strong social interaction such as that occurs serotonin is produced in the brain and floods the pleasure center (this is also associated with religious experiences). Scientists theorize that it's an evolutionary response to the early creation of society, humans are selfish beings but this chemical encourages cooperation. There's no connection or empathy throughout human society, it's just chemical juices being pumped around your brain. Humanity's barely evolved in over sixty thousand years, if you're wondering what's wrong with us consider this: we're sixty-thousand year old computers running present-day software, that's bound to cause some randomness.

Bear in mind, we've done some damn cool things as well. Hell, we're the only species that has been able to make it to the moon, let's see fucking badgers do that.

"I die, but so do you"

In the dawn of man, we discover death, then use it against competing tribes.

Every technology since the dawn of man has been inspired, created, and employed in our quest to shed mortality. From medicine, to weapons, to monumental shrines - the human experience is defined by death.
