Fun Fact: Sephiroth's Sword the Masamune is a great demonic sword of who ever is stabbed is dead ... forever, they're not coming back, also there wasn't any blood because the Masamune is said not to draw blood even when impaled through someone's stomach.

Still, i cried back in the day when Aeris died and it still gets me even today.

Really? They forgot about phoenix downs?

Oh WoW, I never noticed that!!! You seriously are the first person EVER to see that plot hole. Yhea, I have never seen anyone point this out on the internet before. You must be brilliant to notice.(sarcasm, just in case you thought that was serious)

Oh wait, no because phoenix downs only revive knocked out party members not dead ones. If you have been involved with final fantasy anywhere in the last decade you might know that.

Reeeaaallly..

So when someone gets hit with a spell that's even called Death you do not, in fact, die?

Not to mention the fact that merely being stabbed with a sword is small beans compared to the damage a character will take in battle during the game.

I mean at least when Galuf died in FFV they did try a Phoenix Down, and there was some explanation as to why it didn't work.

Stuff and nonsense. Cloud got stabbed with it in the Mt. Nibel reactor and not only did not die there and then, he had time to pwn Sephiroth by lifting him up with the blade of the sword and chucking him over the railings into the Lifestream, and still didn't die.

No, just because a spell is called "death" doesn't mean it kills the character. You just take everything literally don't you? Its a fantasy game dude.

Also at the Nibel reactor, Sephiroth used the same sword that he used to cut Jenova's head off to stab cloud. The sword would have had the blood/cells of Jenova on it. That is where soldiers power comes from, they are humans with Jenova's cells. Getting stabbed with the sword gave cloud temporary superpowers due to the cells and adrenalin rush from getting stabbed. Sephiroth wasn't part of the lifesteam back then he was just a crazy human soldier. He was also weak and tired from fighting Zach.

Also Cloud and Zach got emergency medical care soon enough afterwards so that their wounds didn't kill them.

Learn the cannon.

I haven't managed to finish FF7 either, but not for the same reasons as you. Chill man, FF7 has a pretty well told story from what I remember (it was a long time ago now) there are far worse anyway.

That's a really retarded thing to complain about. If you're going to integrate gameplay and story to that level, then you'd have to remove phoenix down from the game altogether and make death permanent. Otherwise if ANYONE who died could be revived with phoenix down then there'd be no drama, no tension, no NOTHING because death would be MEANINGLESS. It's called an 'acceptable break from reality' and you should just accept it. It's a very simple concept. Either finish them game or don't, but don't denigrate the story just because you feel like splitting spiky hairs.

And no, it's not because I suck. I'm actually doing really well gameplay wise... It's just the story.

I'm not even going to bother putting a spoiler warning in this post, because if you've had anything to do with any sort of gaming within the past decade, you should already know what happens here.

Aeris dies. WHOMG! That in and of itself is retarded. I'll even forgive Sephiroth coming down and stabbing her just because he wants to be evil. Bad story telling, but I'll let it slide. But Aeris dies? Seriously? Everyones all mournful over that. Everyone keeps looking at her. Cloud picks her up and sets her off into the lake. Did nobody EVER hear of a phoenix down?? Or rather, since we're talking about a girl that can survive heated battles and nuclear blasts, Cure 3?? Since all that happened to her was that she was stabbed by a sword from a weak ass dude (yea I went there), her hp couldnt have possibly dropped to 0. But no. We must accept that fact that for a split second in the Final Fantasy universe, everyone forgot that phoenix downs and Cure3 existed in order to make one of the best characters of the game die off to show that you cant have an awesome team forever, or because SOMEONE has to die.

/endrant

anyway, anyone else feel this way or think these thoughts or at least something along these lines while playing FF7?

so.................you've gotten that far and you don't know why she did it >.>...wow you give up easily

Just make sure you beat Jenova with your comet, bahamut and odin materia. I think that's right. God I am a nerd...

Yeah I had the same problem you did. I made it to the 3rd disk at was about to go into the crater, then I just stopped playing. I know I was at the end and my buddies told me to just keep going but I wasn't having any fun.

The reason that you can use Phoenix Downs and Cure and all that, and that you can shoot asteroids into someone's face, it's a JRPG, it'd be unfair if it wasn't that way. The combat isn't supposed to have anything to do with the story. And besides, almost every game that exists doesn't make sense. Why do you hack at this one? At least this one has a good story to tell. If you would look aside the combat, the story would be different than what your mind sees it as. If you would name your favourite games, I could name how they don't make sense. The minute you apply real life logic to video games, it loses all it's charm. It's a fantasy game.

It's a plot hole that still, to this day, has yet to be filled.

Since Phoenix Down's only revive you when you've been knocked out, but when your health reaches 0 you supposedly die, it's a subject that is open to interpretation.

In the world of JRPGS, cut scenes are your party members worst enemies, anything can happen, whether you like it or not.

Back in the earlier Final Fantasy games the "death" condition was called swoon, basically they were unconscious.
