Game play elements do not coincide with story elements. God this isn't even the first time in the series this has happened lest we forget: Half the protagonists dieing in FF2, Tellah from FF4, Galuf From FF5, General Leo and Lockes girlfriend from FF6.

This also has nothing to do with Sephiroths blade being some magical thing that permakills you. It's nothing more than a really big fucking sword, no soul eating or nothing, just a big blade meant for humankabob. Aeriths death had a prupose and that was to empower holy as self sacrifice is the only means of doing so and she knew it. Bringing her back from the dead would make that entire scene pointless and would lose all significance. It was also a crucial part of Clouds character development. So suck it up and play the game without trying to connect GAMEPLAY elements with story. FF isn't the only game to have this kind of "screwed" logic, seeing as plenty of other games have these little contradictory things themselves.

For me the most retarded moment was that a billion dollar company can only seem to build one air ship and it's not even that hard to make.

well good for you, you quit the game because you hate the fact that they didn't weventry a pheonex down, and that you thought the story was stupid. good for you. (btw, if you complain about that here, then people will start pulling that whole "it's a fantasy game, they aren't supposed to work on logic" bullshit.)

Did nobody EVER hear of a phoenix down?? Or rather, since we're talking about a girl that can survive heated battles and nuclear blasts, Cure 3??
At least that's what the explanation the I could handle so far goes like. And a stab through the entire body like Seph did it was just a big F.U. for willpower and resistance but whatever.
Wait, didn't Sephiroth stab Cloud like that? Twice? Once when he was a regular old weak Midgar low ranking infantry-man, and Cloud just pulls the sword out of his chest and throws Sephiroth off the bridge, then again in Advent Children (unless you pretend that movie never happened) where he again pulls the sword out and performs his limit break.

Yes you have that right and to be honest I didn't really get the ENTIRE history of Cloud myself but from what I do remember of it, Cloud was basicly like Sephiroth a clone from Jenova, just with a different additional string of DNA or something. They basicly were even for a good while altho I might be wrong there. I DO remember however that Cloud threw Seph into the reactor bottom in that flashback when he told about his past in Calm (the 1st village to reach after the Midgar escape), which turned out to be all wrong, since Tifa I think told him these stories to keep Cloud sane because at the time they met he was way too odd for insanity.

I best stop spewing any more here because, as said, I might be wrong about it all in the end as I haven't played the game in a good while now. But there IS more to Cloud than one might imagine, that's fact and he DOES have some strange similarities with Seph about their origin... I am just not 100% sure anymore how they connect properly

They had a good fleet of airships and planes, just none that were capable of hovering (except the Highwind that you pilot later) I believe. The only other exception was the Tiny Bronco from Cid which got shot down when Rufus didn't manage to get it.

But yes, it IS pathetic that they couldn't build more of them. Maybe it was a weird-ass prototype or something, who knows? :p

anyway, anyone else feel this way or think these thoughts or at least something along these lines while playing FF7?
Its funny that you mention this. Have you ever played Final fantasy Tactics? The PS one that is. They actually make fun of that in one scene. It was quite funny to me. Really, though, the problem is not in the storytelling, the problem is with them allowing people to come back from the dead so easily. It makes life seem cheap and pointless and death something to laugh at in games like that.

Game. Set. Match right there.
Nail on the head.

As for the P-downs, as everyones been saying, characters don't die in battles, they get KO'ed. If you can't accept that OP, then as Sonicron stated, your going in with the wrong mindset.
Is it ever explained that characters get KO'ed? I'm not too bothered to start FF7 and find the beginners room.
Anyway, characters get stabbed, punched, kicked, eaten, shot at, hit by lightning, ice and fire and that's ignoring the falls, times they get run over, revivals from near death, turned to stone and stomped on, people are expected to believe a simple stab wound is fatal after all that?
I'm not arguing against the scene, I stopped caring about it years ago.

I'm arguing against your quoted comment, which you agree with. The "it's a game" argument.

FF7 is a three disc game, this event happens IIRC at the end of disc one. That means that for a lot of people, the illusion presented by the game was broken and by extension, the whole game ruined. It's like having someone say "it's not real" just when you started to get immersed in a movie, game or book.

Could be, I haven't played the game in a while, and when I do play it's my 'recent' save in which I level Vincent's weapon.(trying to 1-shot the WEAPONs)

Thats because all characters are vulnerable during cut scenes it the logic of gaming except for devil may cry where it the opposite

If you want to moan about stuff like that, then you may as well pose the question as to why no one goes to the toilet, changes their clothes or has a gun for a hand.
Their urine is released as sweat

They have self cleaning clothes
