I don't like the ESRB

ESRB is really starting to annoy me. i see plenty of games that are fine for me or my age level that i cannot play because of some part of the game that has been overrated by the esrb. my parents do not care about alcohol or drug use in games as much as others might (not that im allowed to do it, its just ok to see it being done). a great example is halo, because its one of the most agreed upon for being overly highly rated. yes, there is violence. yes, there is nudity. yes, there is blood and cursing. i know this. but really, the violence is really only about that of a teen game at most- and really, is your child going to go out and start attaking random civilians because of a little violece? you can watch fox news for ten miniutes and you'll see more gore than in the halo games, and most people DO watch the news. can it really be compared to games like gears of war, manhunt or left for dead for that matter? in addition, the swearing is minimal at best, nothing you wont hear in school or movies, nudity is under minimal, cortana being naked for maybe 15 seconds per time on the screen, and as far as blood is concerened it doesnt effect children if it is merely puffs of neon dust spraying from ailens. with that being said, let me bring up the topic of underrating- case in point, the bourne ultimatum game. this game has close up bone breaking, gunplay, blood, gore, and yet is still rated teen by the esrb. compare this to halo or other overrated games, and it really dosent seem fair that this is ok, yet they arent. i belive the esrb should re-design their rating service to make it more up to date in todays standards.

this is what i belive, now lets hear what you think. post your ideals.

p.s. your children <12 should NOT play teen games, much less mature+ games, for really i only see violent games affecting them, probably due to being more impresionable at such a young age. If you have ever played a gears match with a 10 year old, you know what im saying.

p.p.s.when i say nudity i mean 'suggestive themes'. its the same thing.

(sorry about that first post this one is...revised...)

I am finding myself annoyed by the processes and restrictions imposed by ESRB. Many of the games I would quite enjoy playing are classed outside of my purchasing capacity. It is a constant disappointment. Halo is one for mild nudity in the form of Cortana's digitised, glowing body. Other games such as Manhunt and Left 4 Dead are a whole lot more violent.

Isn't our Bill of Rights meant to stop this?

Your thoughts, please.

I'm 21.

I don't care what rating a game has.

EDIT: Also, you clearly don't understand the constitution if you think this falls under the second amendment.

The ESRB is not perfect, but it's a necessary evil. Think about it: this VOLUNTARY organization decides to stop, then the government will step in. Do we really want Hillary Clinton rating our games?

Well judging from your typing and sentence structure, I take it your a 10 year old he is freaking out at not being able to get a game and now you're just flaming.

I like ESRB it makes parents shut up about "Oh the children!".

*Twitch* bad...grammar...spelling...overload *Head explodes*

OP: Some games do recieve overly-harsh ratings but most of them are just to keep little kids from playing things like GTA 4 or Dead or Alive: Beach Volleyball.

This. (Although I'm 18.)
It's fun being too old for most rules to affect you.
But I guess if I didn't want to be a jerk... the ESRB is there to satisfy the politically correct people. Without it, the government would decide what to do, or worse, just censor everything...

Sorry, but nobody is going to take you seriously if you just rant like this. All people are going to do is insult you, and any point you are trying to make will be ignored. I recommend calming yourself down, removing the spelling errors, turning off the caps lock, and then trying to express your opinion on the ESRB.

Thats nice... but ya I agree, sort of. I don't think the ESRB has to be destroyed but they should really consider their ratings a little more. At the moment it just seems like they watch a five second clip, say oh look blood it's M, oh a bunny... on fire T. But they are necessary, the gaming may be worse off if it weren't for them.

On a side note, I like the UK's rating system.

1, I think Halo is M so that way little kids don't get a hold of it and annoy the halo community, with their high pitched voices...but they get it anyway.

2, The ESRB rates a game the way it should be. Sure they get iffy at times, but still would you allow small children to play GoW2 and think that's ok? No they need games appropriate for their age

I'm 15. My dad is cool. This enables the purchase of any game, because he knows that all of my innocence died the moment I started using the internet.

Um, I'll disagree

The ESRB is the best possible concession that could be made to angry parents who wanted government oversight to gaming. Instead of having a system that has to go through what the government deems is appropriate for children (the same government that has funded abstinence programs for schools in the past mind you) there's an unbiased, third party that doesn't actually have any legal authority.

The game retailers don't have to listen to them, they only do because they feel that parents won't shop at stores that sell M rated games to people under 17

And what games has America banned? I know Australia bans games like no tomorrow, but what game has ever been banned in the US? (Other than some rape games I'm assuming)

Calm down, they're better than anything else

...I really can't think of anything to add to this. I just wondered how you managed to read my mind before I thought it.

ESRB is really starting to piss me off. i see plenty of games that are fine for me that i cant play cuz of like a bikini or alcohol happining to be in like, one freakin part of the game!!! a great example is halo, cuz its the most contrivercial. because cortana is naked for like, 5 seconds at a time on the screen and theirs cursing(is that not something everyone deals with like, EVERY DAY???) its rated M!! it barely even has any violence, much lower than manhunt or even LFD for that matter!!! and wtf is up with banning games? thats so stupid!! are we NOT protected under the (second?) constitution to print/ read (make and play) freely?
thats my rant- lets hear yours!!!

p.s. cortanas 'private areas' are barely even visible so wtf??
I see you don't have your age posted on you profile. Let me explain; If you are complaining about not being allowed to play a game due to its rating, then you are too young to play that game based on its rating.

Stop complaining, when you get to be my age, you will be saying the same thing I am to kids younger than you.

It must be this way. And calm down. The ESRB was put in place so that games could have a fair chance. If you want to see government ratings system, check out Australia.

Cortana was an issue? I always heard that was rated M for violence and language. Never for Artificial Intelligence Nudity.

Either way, the ESRB exists for a reason. I think they do a damn good job. The issue is everyone who ignores the rating system, causing the uproar when parents are somehow surprised when their son kills a hooker in order to get the money he just payed her for sex back.

I love the ESRB.
I think they do fine work.

Do I agree with all their ratings? No.
But do I think they should be around? Absolutely.

Not all parents are game-savy, and the ESRB helps the less connected parents get a handle on what their kids are playing.
My kid, if I ever have one, won't be playing M rated games at 6 or 8 or even 14. Other parents feel the same way, and the ESRB helps them make an informed decision.
