I think there should be a rating between "T" and "M," like what they added between "E" and "T." The reasoning being that I think a lot of violent games are rated "M" because they're marginally worse than something the ESRB thinks a 13-year-old can handle.

Care to have any ideas on what to call this new rating?
Why don't we just steal Europe's 15+ rating..?
cool, I love stealing stuff from Europe :D

ESRB is really starting to piss me off. i see plenty of games that are fine for me that i cant play cuz of like a bikini or alcohol happining to be in like, one freakin part of the game!!! a great example is halo, cuz its the most contrivercial. because cortana is naked for like, 5 seconds at a time on the screen and theirs cursing(is that not something everyone deals with like, EVERY DAY???) its rated M!! it barely even has any violence, much lower than manhunt or even LFD for that matter!!! and wtf is up with banning games? thats so stupid!! are we NOT protected under the (second?) ammendment to print/ read (make and play) freely?
thats my rant- lets hear yours!!!

p.s. cortanas 'private areas' are barely even visible so wtf??

sorry about the grammer i was not aware of the 'rules' about it.

pps. its just my opinion... jeeze...
the freedom of speech is the 1st ammendment. second is to bare arms. (I just learned about it)

The ESRB is there as a guide line to parents. If you're parents deem you mature enough to handle these games then it wouldn't be an issue. Judging by your post I don't blame them. Wait until you're older.

ESRB is only a guideline for parents and some stores hold policies based on their ratings. And if your parents won't let you buy a game because they think it's too mature for you, than the more power to them.

I think a lot of it is about maturity. I said this in another thread. I'm 14, and I have yet to see a game that has disturbed me. There are people a lot less mature than myself, and others more so. My parents trust me because they know three things:

1) I'm mentally stable.
2) I'm intelligent.
3) I know that it isn't real.

While I can still play 18's, I can't wait for the day when I can walk into a store and buy one for myself.

I don't think that's a maturity thing. Adults get disturbed by stuff all the time. I love Saving Private Ryan and I skip the opening scene every time. I'm 20 and that's only barely an adult, but I still don't think that's a maturity thing.

We don't need to destroy the ESRB but I think we need to reform what they require from stores and game companies to help inform parents on the subject.

Read the ESRB warning on the back of Halo. Rated M for violence and language. Not nudity. And it barely has any violence? It's eight plus hours of MURDER! By gunfire, grenade explosions, and CAVING IN THE HEADS OF ENEMIES. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to the game. But it is incredibly violent. Also, to my knowledge, the US government has never actually banned any video game. I could be wrong, but I would figure there'd be serious 1st amendment issues if they did. What you consider "banning" is actually the retailers, i.e. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, GameSuck, etc, refusing to carry the game because of the rating.

Also, for the record, I don't know how old you are. Frankly, it doesn't matter. But before you start referencing the Constitution of the United States, please READ THE FUCKING THING. The FIRST Amendment is what protects your right to free speech (which, if you're under the age of 18, even that is curtailed). The Second Amendment is the one that gives citizens the right to bear arms.

I'm done now.

I don't really understand what your porblem is. The ESRB rates Halo as M for "Blood and Gore, Violence", maybe I'm missing something but it seems you're getting upset over something that doesn't exsist.

Becides all the ESRB does is give a rating, I see nothing wrong with that.

It's rated M? so? i'm surprised halo is only rated m, haven't played much but musn't be violent enough for its genre if only m. :p maybe the system is different where you're from but in oz anyone can buy M, M is just highly recommended for persons 15 years and older.

If you can't even get your hands on M games i wouldn't worry about the kind of games that are being banned :p because you would definitely not be able to get those.
besides, in Australia we don't even give out R-ratings for games (stupid government D:<) so we get ton's of banned games and the highest rating is MA.

...it's not illegal to buy an M game if you're underage, if I recall? In the US, anyway.

Oh, but I suppose you're upset because the ESRB would be fooling your parents into thinking games are bad for you? Well, news is this: ESRB is doings its job fantastically.

I have to suffer the Australian OFLC - stop complaining.
This.

ESRB are run by humans, not puritanical fanatics who hate all forms of entertainment except for the Bible, which to them is entertainment. They do what they think is best. At least the U.S. is more tolerant than say, Germany or Australia.

Yes! The disenfranchised young masses are off school, and ready to rebel!

Shall we do this the slow, peaceful, effective way, or the 'fun' way?

Since theres no way to make sure the dumbasses don't get the games we have to put rules for everyone. Till they develop a mind reading machine to truly find humans that are unfit for reproduction. But then video games will be the least of your worries because Earth will become a wreck trying to cleanse the species.
