I've gotten insulted by a number of people for the past few days because I told someone I buy all my music...does that make any sense at all? Sorry that I support those that work their asses of to make it so you have the music you like to listen to.
If you're constantly buying CDs without first hearing the music on it (which in some peoples eyes, and I don't consider it an invalid PoV, is easiest done via pirating, try-before-you-buy method), I can see why some would view you as gullible (but frankly if you can afford it, more power to you, it's definitely not something you should be insulted for, it's the "right" thing to do). And I'm not sure what sort of music you listen to, but a typical person listens to a number of musicians who get paid more than what they need to live more than comfortably.
Viewing piracy as utter evil and capitalism as an angel sent from God is, with all due respect, not a point of view I can agree much on, in fact I find it really gullible and a simple minded view that probably hasn't really been given too much thought (again, no offense by it, I can see why one would accept such a view, but that doesn't mean I even remotely agree with it).
Fact is, both have bad points but are combined two ideas that function well together (at least as far as copyright protection goes), capitalism gives those who majorly get pirated more than what they need (and frankly, deserve) and those who would get screwed over by the capitalism can use piracy to mitigate the negative effect of it and enjoy their life without really hurting anyone.
The little guys who you'd think would be "unjustly" hurt by piracy actually get pirated very little - the less you're famous, the harder it is to find your work hosted by a sufficient number of people to share it. Those who pirate also generally tend to understand what it means to be a little guy too so they also spend what money they can afford supporting those.
That's also putting aside the fact what a lot of little guys generally need (if they're good) is promotion and that piracy actually works towards that because if you're short on cash, why would you use it to buy some less famous person's work when there's better ones out there (for generally the same or similar price)? Piracy works around that and lets people try the music/films/games they can't afford and you'd be surprised at the number of people who do that only to buy the original disc later, go to a band's concert, buy the following albums, sequels and such (assuming they enjoy the work obviously).
Piracy!=stealing, you're not taking anything away and you're not making a profit off of someone else's work, you're just enjoying an experience, much like if there was a Ferris wheel capable of hosting 50 people at a time that never used more than 30 seats, you could be nice and give some 20 unprivileged kids a free ride without really losing a damn thing (piracy doesn't even have the effect of having to wipe the butt stains off your Ferris wheel seats and stuff, it really doesn't even touch upon the creator, distributor etc. in the sense they need to do something for it to work).

For discussion value, have you ever been insulted for something utterly retarded?
Well in the same avenue, I got laughed at/called a game fanatic when I bought an original disc for a game. But that's a lot to do with the fact Serbia didn't have copyright laws for a long long time and with our economic standard in mind, buying originals as opposed to buying a pirated disc on the street/market was viewed as ridiculous and just money burning, effectively similar to buying really pricey fancy name-brand clothes rather than something out of a casual shop.

I got insulted for not liking Napoleon Dynamite.
Yeah...
WHAT?!
That film is AWESOME! D:
It's a generational thing. Some people adore it, other find it immensely boring due to it's incredibly slow pace. I'm afraid I'm one of the latter (though the dance at the end was hilarious).
