but MS is (was) the last bastion of hardcore console gaming.
no offense but what about the ps3? i have a ps3 and it kicks ass just as well as the xbox. i have put hundreds of hours into it and plan to continue to do so. i don't know if you are a fanboy or if you just haven't played it but calling the xbox the "the last bastion of hardcore console gaming" is nothing sort of absolutely retarded. i have all consoles and in my opinion the ps3 and xbox are both good. and sony is coming out with a product that is almost the same as a wiimote and natal.
the 360 doesnt come close to hardcore, only the PS2, as thats the only console with God of War on it atm

Sony/Microsoft: "Motion-Sensor videogames are a sham on the video-game industry, good luck getting it to sell you idiots!"

Nintendo: "We will give it a shot, i think it will be succesful"

*Earns billions of dollars*

Sony/Microsoft: "We are both working on new motion-sensor technology which i think will really advance the industry into a new age of *cough* MONEY *cough* games.

I hate Project Natal and motion sensing technology. Why? Because it's forcing me to exorcise while gaming, and I do not like that.

Is Natal going to sense when I slightly move my index finger to pull a trigger in a FPS? Doubtful. For that matter, how am I going to aim at an enemy while strafing to the left, switching weapons and jumping, all at the same time? That's something that most FPSes require a player to be able to do in order to play effectively.

Am I going to lean my whole body to the left while pointing my left index finger at the screen like a gun, pumping my right arm to change weapons and jumping up and down to make my character jump? Answer to a rhetorical question: I sure as hell won't, and neither will any other FPS player.
You might find the concept more appealing if you weren't trying to narrow mindedly shoe-horn it into the only familiar perspective that you can work within.

1. Release it as an add-on to the 360, inevitably dooming it to failure as few devs will make games for an optional peripheral
Don't try to predict the future if you haven't been there first.

They did something sort of similar. They had gamers using headsets which monitered their brains and it could use their motions for a game based around telekinesis. I can't remember what it was called though.
On topic: Like just about everything else, Natal has potential, whether that potential is realised or not will be down to the developers.

Really now, I don't understand why everyone is reacting in such a way as the above.

I thought, out of all the whining about Natal that I have heard over the forums, that this particular one made a good point about it. Yes, people are going to disagree, and yes the fact that the OP is jumping line a bit considering no-one seems to even really know what the Natal is going to be, but why does everyone suddenly get sarcastic and abusive?

As far as I saw the points he made were;

#1 - Motion controls do not appeal to many people due to their current clumsiness and gimmicky nature.
#2 - If Xbox 360 uses the Natal as a primary median between the Gamer and the Game, it will chase away the aforementioned people that the Xbox 360 attracted due to it being a nuisance.

While it is rather presumptuous that Microsoft will make Natal standard on whatever-the-hell-it-does-into-console on completely unfounded guesses, why does that suddenly label the OP as some kind of troll?

As much fun as it is to mock the whole 'hardcore vs. casual' theme running through the first post, it's just as pathetic watching people try to one-up each other over the internet through the use of playground-simplistic and unoriginal insults.

Holy shit, the validity of all my points, crippled in a single blow! I salute you, Sir.

Actually, I just like to criticize internet hard-men, and defend people who I think people have have misinterpreted. Yeah, I watched a little too much Power Rangers when I was little and I tend to 'superhero' my way into conversations to defend my perception of a wronged underdog. It's a nasty habit that makes me such a loveable kind of guy, m'right?

"So, what your saying is.....

You like to have the last word, even when it's a feeble attempt?"

Yeah, I realise the irony, my friend. I too am the same. Kudos to your for trying though, most people just slink away or make constructive points.

Holy shit, you are like my favourite plaything now!

I realize I come across as a troll, but that's not my intention.

I was a lapsed gamer myself and only very recently game back to loving games with tons of depth to them. When I first looked at the "Revolution" controller, the first thing I thought (and I think we ALL thought) is how much this thing could make deep games even deeper and more engaging.

I think I loved Wii Sports as much as I did, not because of its prowess as a game, but because it was a proof of concept and a sign of things to come. However, I don't see that potential as ever being delivered on. Three years later and I've yet to see even ONE game using motion control that makes me say, "Wow, you really COULDN'T do that on any other console!"

I realize that gaming needs to evolve, but I just don't think implementing devices that deduct depth from games are the ultimate solution here. Maybe if some Wii devs show us some motion-controlled games that use motion control to actually add more depth (greater control over a character, for example) I'd be inclined to see some hope in Natal.

I'm really scared if the future of gaming is going to revolve around the motion control gimmick. Move on, people.

Yeah,I'm not to into the idea on having to make room to stand in front of my TV to play a fighting game. The idea sounds like hard work...I really honestly don't like the idea of anything lately. They should just leave games alone with the whole downloading games, motion controls and DLC map packs and game add-ons,it's all gonna lead to extraordinary crap for the old gamers. were gonna end up paying for purposely unfinished games and gimmicky crap....wait that's how it is already,NVM.

Provided the developers don't try to do too much with it, Natal might be pretty cool.
An easy way for non gamers to interface with the machine.
A way to snag some of that big casual market.
A way to re-invent the brand once they finally fix the rrod: it can be xbox natal instead of the notoriously combusting 360.

As long as Lionhead and Bungie don't go to making Natal games, the 360 should be fine... well, as good as can be expected.

Ha ha! You really are fun!

My turn; "You what your saying is...you're twelve, homophobic, and trying to fit in with the cool kids who reject you because of your habit of acting socially awkward and bitter as a result, forcing you to conduct the majority of your social-life on an online games-forum in hopes of finding someone as neglected as you by your peers, but can't seem to fit into that environment either so you become bitter and retaliate by using words like 'troll' without meaning it, then indirectly become one without realising the guy 'feeding' you is quite happy doing so, because belittling people gives him a little shiver of ecstasy to compensate for his extremely dull life at this point in a stage of 'limbo' whilst awaiting results."

See, we can use it to get to know each other a little more too.

EDIT - Heh, in fact, I'm going to walk away. I'm enjoying this too much for my own good really. It was fun while it lasted, anyway.

I think Natal has good pluses and I am all for it(its also coming to PC as a way of controlling Windows)

However, just like the SIXAXIX/Wii-Mote craze, it'll only be good if pulled off correctly and has good game support.

I don't think it'll be a must have gadget that'll then be seen as an essential peripherial for years to come but probs as essential as say, a playstation eye or a bluetooth headset. Nice to have but can easily get buy without one.
