I used to have a Machete.. Looked EXACTLY like the one in Left 4 Dead 2 actually.
Before that i had a gold club.
A gold club? What a pimp-tastic form of home defense. I don't know why you got rid of it.
OT: I have a number of heavy rocks near my bed, some, a baseball bat just across from it, and there's usually a few bottles lying around.
Hahahaha, this made my day :p
I meant GOLF CLUB of course :)

Two air rifles and various airsoft rifles. But I doubt anyone would bother breaking into my house

The only things that could possibly count as conventional weapons are in my kitchen and living room.
I am one of those neurotic paranoid types, though, so I pretty much have a plan of action for any disastrous eventuality.
There are like fourty possible weapons in my room at any given time. More if you include shit that I would be hesitant to use outside of apocalyptic scenarios, like TVs and so on.

i don't think it would be a too great idea to toss my only means of defense in the direction/hands of the attacker :D
If you're good at using throwing knives, he's not gonna get a chance to throw them back.

I have a butterfly knife but I live in such a nice neighborhood having to use it would probably shock me into paralysis. Since I have a baby and am planning on a few more I can't have any guns in the house that are assembled enough to be useful in an emergency (stocks and barrels locked in a cabinet, ammo and clips/bolts in a locked garage cabinet).
I take it you live in one of those areas where the lawmakers fail to realize that there's a much simpler alternative to keeping guns stored like that: be a responsible parent by locking them up where the little ones can't get them.

I have two protective hounds and a Buck knife. And lots of stuff that can be improvised should the need arise.

But I live in an area which, being on the "bad side of town", means that it's really quite safe.

i think that's not a risk one should take...chances for a clean throw, under stress and in the dark possibly are low enough. and even if one gets a presentable hit, chances that the attacker is stopped right away are near nil. this is not d&d or some comic, a perpetrator you throw a knife at will not take 1d6 damage.

I don't think the Serbian's/Russian's/Some Eastern European nationality next door or the fellow Greeks on the other side will be of any issue.

Wow. You all sleep with weapons under your pillows? You Escapists sure are a paranoid bunch.

Okay, okay. Two knives and an axe handle.

I used to have a crowbar. I used it as protection, and a tool for my "night-time activities"; until my mom found it in the boards of my bed. Now it's down in the garage... :(

Several knives, a length of PVC pipe, and multiple other bludgeons. I painted the pipe green, so usually when I hit someone with it, it leaves a long green streak on wherever I hit them.

Several caes of C4 are planted around my house, so if anyone ever breaks in or I'm just bored, I'll use 'em!

I keep a Benelli M3 with me right by my bed, and I occasionally make love to it.

I have a tiger. My house is also set up with horribly dangerous yet hilarious traps, including but not limited to cans of paint that will hit them when they go up the stairs and irons that will burn their faces and buttons that look really enticing and when you press them you get electrocuted so badly people can see your skeleton.

Wow, reading all this is actually quite disturbing. But I guess most of you will have your reasons for keeping that stuff near your person.

As for me I don't really have any stuff greatly suited for defence. Though I do have a short staff in my room that I used for training, and there's an ornamental short blade around somewhere. It's not sharp but it can stab nonetheless. My sai are in my brother's room, unfortunately, but I'm thinking about taking those with me when I move to my new uni apartment in a few months. The tips are not as sharp as they could be but they can still stab quite nicely.

I have a 20 gauge shotgun under my bed, with 5 shells in my end table.

I didn't put it there for defense. Its just where I keep things like that.

But in the rare event someone DOES break into my home, It'll be the last thing they ever do.
So you would actually kill someone to prevent losing your pc/gameconsole!? Wow...
