Because while we all pretend to be British, smooth talking, tea-drinking, aristocrats we're all actually sweaty American teenagers who can't think of anything other than boobies.
..As a British smooth talking, tea-guzzling former-aristocratic female may I ask exactly what's wrong with that? Be yourself, I'd have that description over the toss- *cough* pent-up-letch's in my 'class' anyday.

People who keep linking these damned cat pictures are clearly lacking attention in real life. Please discuss that with your therapist.
Actually, that's more of an unsupported hypothesis. I don't know why Nuke does it, but seeing as he's pretty popular around here and he seems like a nice guy, I don't think it applies to him. Me, I hopped on the bandwagon for the sake of giggles. Just letting the part of me that enjoys bewildering/annoying people play for a bit. And though I don't mind that you don't mind, you could be a little more polite and, you know, ask us to stop next time? I would've been happy to oblige. All calling names will do is start a war.

Now, you didn't say anything [http://cache.gawker.com/assets/resources/2008/03/puppy.png] about other things that we could link to.
Oh no, I know why he does it, I'm aware and I was there of the reason. I just don't understand why people suddenly jump on the bandwagon and start doing something they have no idea about.

Just like lynch mobs, you see?

And I wasn't being impolite, it was just an observation. I could've taken other routes. I was brisk because seriously, if you ask people to stop doing something they just keep doing it. Or they'll feel like doing it. It's better to cut it by the root.
a) As mentioned previously, because it's entertaining and, to a degree, fun. Especially in the middle of the night when your sense of logic is all screwy.

b) Only these lynch mobs are cute and fuzzy, not to mention safer.

c) I know that you could've said worse, but calling people lonely nutters in need of a therapist isn't exactly the nicest thing to say, particularly when it's pretty clear that we were just being goofy. So I guess it's less like a lynch mob and more like a meme.

Also, it's not an observation unless you've personally delved into the real lives of everyone who's jumped on the bandwagon, in which case I'm a counterexample already. No, the word you're looking for is opinion.
Now now, since when seeing a therapist makes you a nutter? This preconceived notion that everyone who visits a therapist is somehow "crazy" needs to stop. I know plenty of people who have therapists and they're the most intelligent, savant people I know off.

It's also definitely not a meme.
A meme means that there's a joke in it which refers to some event that happened somewhere and that you are aware of what it was. Otherwise what's the point? You're not getting the joke, only being "goofy" as you put it.

It's also a observation. An opinionated observation at that. I observed you doing something, I made an opinion, and now I'm presenting that opinion/observation to you. Lets not discuss semantics though, that's a slippery edge into a dark abyss where people use that dreadful sentence, "lets agree to disagree".
Aye, I suppose that was the wrong thing to say. Still, point being that while it may be an observation, it was a very generalized and unsupported one, and still rather offensive at that. And though I agree not to argue semantics, I'm going to take one last step and call it a rationalization.

And no, it might not be a meme, but it's more like one than it is like a lynch mob. People do it because they find it funny, not because of a mutual and misguided hate towards a certain person/people. Hence why I said "more like a meme" and not "it is a meme".

I'm really just more concerned as to why we need so many threads about different aspects [http://www.dailykitten.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/1161459566kitten.jpg] of physical attractiveness instead of just one thread.
I am with her on this one.

And why you may ask would someone make threads about this if there is already one big one? Because no one likes to use the search button, its unloved and a virgin.

I must object! This is a quintessential school boy error, for I am indeed a tea-drinking British...oooooh shit didn't see the smooth talking aristocrat bit...>_<

I guess these topics are popular because a lot of people get involved in replies and their creation takes very little imagination...

I have another idea, one that's a little far-fetched but perhaps plausible.

Guys on internet find out about girls on forum. Guys create Ideal Girl threads in the hopes that one of the girls will shout "ZOMG! That sums me up right there!".

Put another way, because the greater part of the creators of these threads are trying to hook up with someone here.

Once again, just a thought. Might not apply to most folks (or anyone, for that matter).

Personally I like girls who look like a mix of being cute, but sexy. Like, they're cute and small but you know not to cross them. A bit like a cat (don't you make any comment, NewClassic...). My ideal girl is basically catlike, but with long red (or possibly dark brown) hair, who gives out an air of mystery. I'm a bit of a romantic but I like a girl to show there's a kind of sexual tension in the air, not to be pervy, but to give out an air of confidence and innocence with a hint of mystery, sexiness and sensuousness. Plus they need to be intelligent, someone I can have a proper discussion with and who is on the same wavelength as me, and also quirky and funny, sort of like a human version of the TV show Pushing Daisies.

It's actually ironic that a girl who fits this description happens to live in the flat 4 floors below me and we are quite good friends, yet I don't actually fancy her...
yeah you do. Let me venture a couple guesses, she has a boyfriend(maybe someone you know and kind of like) and you don't want to wait it out, so you don't bother being actively interested. Or maybe you yourself is in a relationship that you wouldn't want to end for a shot in the dark. Or maybe she has made it clear in some way she's not physically attracted to you. But yeah, you fancy her...

Actually no, she hasn't made that clear, nor has she had any reason to. She is currently single, as am I. I can actually show you a photo of us together, as friends, at our university Christmas Ball from last month if you want proof...

Kid, this is the internet.

You don't have to justify what you think, you don't have to justify anything really. Unless you happen to be an attractive womem. In which, "Pictures or it didn't happen," rears its head.

( Also, if you actually are a said women, there is "There are no women on the interwebs" for you. ;) )

I think it's because the mojority of users are shy virgins, they like to describe their ideal woman in the hope that one day she'll turn up and cuddle them.

Awwwwh :3

Okay, the real question I have here is: Why do male Escapists like talking about what they like in a girl?
Perhaps then the girls will say "I like a guy who...", and it be something we can match up to?

right, I like a guy who is quirky, funny, loving and honest. Physically, a fit torso and bum are good points, long black hair and a broody/hungry look (the kinda look you give a woman when you're feeling REALLY horny)!

And YES, i do think vincent valentine would be perfect if he was a real guy! lol Although in reality, as long as I'm attracted to someone, their appearance doesn't have to be the above :)

I believe you, it's very possible you're just good platonic friends, but this sounds a lot like a bad romantic comedy. 2 people who are platonic friends are perfect for each other, but they don't notice it 'til one of them...gets married or something. When she gets engaged you're going to have a series of mildly entertaining mishaps that prove your right for each other. mark my words.
