What can I say about it apart from my hatred of it was what ultimately caused me to abandon the entire game in a childish hissy fit?

Well, if you love it that much the only thing I can say is make love to it WITHOUT the ignition on.
But then it's not as hot loving. *1.99 SarcMark goes here!*

Look who's talking.

Anyway, I liked the Mako. Sure the controls weren't perfect and the mineral collection felt like a rather arbitrary fetch quest, but I still had fun driving that thing all over the place.

Say did anyone else figure out how to get the Mako through that narrow gap on the mission to rescue Liara. It's tricky, but it is possible and it makes clearing out the area just before the mine a hell of a lot easier.

Its controls were way too sensitive; just tapping left would turn it 90 degrees, it was horrible.

It wasn't the controls; it was hitting the most minute of bumps at 5 miles an hour.

I'm sorry, but the physics on that thing are totally whack. It's a complete pain to use when attempting to go over mountains, and much of the time you use it, you are attempting to go over mountains.

There is a reason BioWare made this. [http://store.bioware.com/products/mass_effect/tshirt_mako.html]

The Mako sucked balls. Why is there no flying ship in the future? Are we still solely dependant on pneumatics for transport? why is it not a shuttle or a tank or something? I understand the concept may be to show that yes, bigger badder vehicles exist in the future, but still. How about a helo? Or a anti-grav Weapon Platform? Or 3 man battle suits? Or just 1 man battle suits like in Avatar?

And the big biter? How the shit did you get back on the Normandy after dropping down? And why are you only exploring that specific area of the planet? And when faced with big bad oppostion, why can we not call down an orbital strike? It all makes no sense to me!

It was trash. After I got my snipe skill up, I would just stop that bucket of unmaneuverable bolts, get out and peg the suckers off from a distance.

I didnt mind the Mako, but the samey rocky landscapes you visit every time ruined those parts for me.
Apart from the planet with the monkey things on it, those were freaking sweet.. until I ran every one of them over

I love the Mako as well but you see I'm a real man so I can control my all terrain tank with wheels and booster jumps.

It was seriously easy to control that thing, I have no idea what you guys find so hard about it. The one problem I had was the long shield recharge but that was minor really.
Agreed, the only time the Mako was difficult to control was in vertical climbs, and that's just physics. I enjoyed driving around on the surface the first three or four times, but after that it quickly became tedious. I don't really mind losing the thing in ME2 though, so I guess that's the point of removing it, but I'd love to see a large battle on a planet surface with the Mako. Maybe ME3.

Regardless, are you telling me it couldn't have had better controls?
The Mako was essentially a shitty warthog with jump boosters.

Yeah you heard me.

I've seen some dislike on the mako, and it confuses me. It's pretty easy to use, it has weapons, it has booster jets on the bottom (I've dodged many a rocket thanks to those.) and all in all, with some exceptions to corners and backing up into objects with negative slopes, I've never had a problem.

So I guess I'm asking you guys, "Why did you dislike/like the Mako"
Omg where to begin.

1. It only handles well if you're facing in the direction you are also driving. Heaven forbid you attempt to turn around in tight quarters (For instance, the ExoGeni Approach on Feros). Unless you are driving forward and facing in the direction you are driving, the Mako handles terribly.

2. The jump boosters are useless and combat was terrible.

An easier way to avoid rockets then boost jumping over them? All the enemies aim at the very tippy tip of the front end of the mako. By standing still, and reversing about a quarter inch, you dodge any incoming fire without any need for timing or tricks. This boils mako combat down to:

pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew move on to next fight pewpewpew shift backwards pewpewpew shift backwards pew pew pew shift backwards....
3. Exploring planets in the mako was not any fun, whatsoever. At best, it was boring: driving over flat, textured and mundane surfaces to complete collection quests so you can get one more check mark in your journal. Or, it was annoying: you spent your time driving up cliff faces at 2 mph, only to see the ramp you were "supposed" to use 10 feet to your left. At worst, however, it was absolutely infuriating. I believe Nodacrux is the planet where you are lured into a valley by a mineral deposit, and THERE ARE ZERO SCALABLE CLIFF FACES OUT OF THE VALLEY. You must return to the Normandy and re-land on the planet if you want to continue exploring.

4. Driving sections were unnecessary. Almost every driving sequence in the game could have been replaced with a walking/running and fighting sequence, and the game wouldn't have suffered at all. What's the point in using the Mako on Noveria? Is the experience that much more enhanced then if we fought our way on foot to Peak 15?

5. The guns did some retarded shit. I would absolutely hate it when my machine gun would push some guy over a cliff for no reason, and then I would have to travel to the bottom of the ravine to finish him off.

----
The only thing the Mako did that was fun was send enemies flying. I love, love, love to finish enemies off by Mako punting them hundreds of yards.

USELESS BOOSTER JUMPERS!?!? BLASPHEMY!

You know that Lava Planet where you find Liara? I used those boosters to get by where you usually have to get off the Mako to keep going! It was the easiest part ever! I just barreled through everything!

Other than that I agree. The Mako sucked.

I'm replaying ME1 one last time. I'm still waiting for ME2 in the mail -- Feb 1st.

Its a a lot of fun to finally get it.

Not lying though, it took me around 5-10 minutes. So it would be faster to go through it normally, but I was hellbent on doing it.

THe Mako plays a lot like the Scorpion tank in halo, both a very fun to use and immensely powerfull, the Mako is faster however.

Wherever the MAKO was available, combats were far too easy (and planetary exploration was extremely boring).. the ennemy only shoots moderately strong yet very slow shots that takes ages to reach you, and there is not a single mobile ennemy that can keep up with us or counter us (with say, the countless APCs we see in the game, but they are all useless, dead terrain features)

Armatures are too weak to be a threat, however their huge machinegun can make some kinks in the Mako's paintjob.
Big alien worms are fixed to a location, so very easily avoided, and some basic zig--zag driving makes you immune from his shots and underground attack. (i only losed once to a worm, and it was the first one a met in the game)

Basicaly, i dont see how we can lose a battle while inside the Mako... Nothing can stand up to it. I think the game awarded less XP is you fight with the Mako.
Superb main gun that hits nearly instantly and good machinegun, decent armor and decent mobility.
And the Mako is just a APC! Imagine if we had control of something like an actual battle tank or a gunship.
