I used the Xbox gamer tag random generator to get mine (ClunkiestTurtle) i just picked the one i found most amusing on the list and have stuck with it ever since, using it as my screen name for just about everything.

Although it does often get misread as ChucklingTurtle which i think on reflection is probably better.

On the whole i am in favor of gamer tags as despite many peoples wholly pathetic attempts to be clever or controversial, "1 h8 Ni99ers" being one example from a list of many i have had the misfortune to come across. Whats the alternative? it would be impractical and impossible for everyone to use their own name and all that really leaves it just an assigned number and that would be rubbish...

What is a gamertag, anyway? I have never even touched an Xbox, so I sincerely don't know.

Anyways... On other consoles and the PC my nickname usually is Ricotez, though lately I have been sporting 'Dandypants' for TF2 (you see so many people called 'Fancypants', and this was my clever reply to that).

I hate the way people (usually Americans) read your tag as soon as you join a lobby and then try to make some joke or nickname out of it. It's like they have nothing interesting to say so just react to whatever is put in front of them. It fact it's not like that, it is that.
I know how you feel, for example my GT is LosDTenaces (Tenacious D, by the way)
Guy#1: LawsDeeTenahsays? He sounds Mexican.
Guy#2: That's not good.
Everybody else: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

It's xbox, didn't that give you a clue to the intellect of the people on it? For all the people about to say im a fanboy and stupid shit like that, I have all 3 consoles and a decent PC.
That doesn't prevent fanboyism. That's like when someone says or does something racists and then says "I can't be racist, I have black friends."
Yeah well a fanboy has one console and defends it till death cause that's what they have, no logic behind it.

I try to keep fairly original gamertags. My first one was Eatbabiesmmgood. Kinda sucked but hey no numbers or X's right? But then Microsoft made me change my name after a year so now I'm Clown_shoes

I can't say I hate all of them, some of them are clever and funny. Others are just stupid and the people behind them need to be euthanized.

There's a simple solution to this.

Step 1: Take Modern Warfare 2 disc in both hands.
Step 2: Snap.
Step 3: Go play Team Fortress 2.

Mine is Wabbitron, because someone took both Chipperz and Chip on XBL and I've used my Cuddles avatar for over a decade now, leading to a large number of my mates referring to me as the Wabbit.

Oddly enough, noone's ever called me out as gay, despite having a reference to a woodland creature in my username...

A Bad Gamer tag is one that is frowned upon meaning offically the only thing that can measure the lowliness of a gamer tag is the average opinion on it from the majority of people who see it.

Any Gamer Tag that tries to sound cool is just bad , e.g. (ASSASSIN NINJA KILLER 101) This is just pathetic, All it really shows that the owner of it is too scared to right something ratinol and has to type something "badass" to make him seem respected because he/she is so insecure about what people think of them.

Then there's one that don't make sense, e.g. (Water6485hitman xx) I'm sorry but if a gamer tag is annoying to read and requires above normal effort from my eyes then it is greatly frowned upon.

People who simply put their normal names are either lazy or smart, lazy because they can't put the time and thought for something nice to other gamers, or smart for knowing that most gamer tags are complete bullshit.

I also dislike people who put their year of birth in the tags..

If you are going to make a gamer tag, make it smart and unique, something that can reflect your personality and idenity, such as your last name and perhaps a clue to your background.

or just do something witty like "Points" or perhaps a personality trait of yours put in e.g. "something, Mistanthrope"

Really just make them nice and respectable.

Thank you.

It is the internet. XBL isn't the problem. People are the problem.

Oh no, I understand that. It's DEFINETLY the people who are the problem. The XBL is just a network thingy but it's populated with people, therefore the XBL is not a friendly place
It can be. I have rarely run into the stereotypical XBL gamer like the stories you hear about. I have found people to be generally friendly on it. Sure you hear someone being called a cheater or hacker or something when they win. Something which I have never considered to be a big deal. Although I am an easy going chap. Who has been called worse by better people.
