I think it could work fine.

Not like it's a story driven tactical rpg rich in dialog anyways.

It would have to be drop in/drop out though.
Well, I was thinking more of a sperate world, because how will the character dropping help? The would start from the beginning and if you drop out WHOOPS there goes your Sword Of Killyness

Loves Swords with Witty Names,

Rimmy
I just mean that someone could leave the game or come in at any time.

So your not "locked" into a co-op or single player game, say.
Yes, I understand, but then the person who drops in and out either would have to have some special save file or just restart every time. But the biggest problem is that in the middle of a huge fight the player could drop in, roast em, and drop out.

Mmmm roast,

It's easy enough to throw a half-assed co-op option for people that enjoy it. Resistance fall of man did this great. Basically just nonsensically double up the main character, and increase the difficulty a tad to account for it. If people find it would be game breaking they can just play singleplayer, you shouldn't selfishly say no to it just because you don't want it yourself. There's something really really special about co-op that has yet to be really tapped into in a meaningful game. Sure I can enjoy resident evil 5 style co-op but I think it would be amazing to play a deep rpg where companions are controlled by others, who can all go their own way or stick together and experience quests and cultural exploration together.
Thank you friend. I wish we could all experience it. Instead were just getting it in shooters.

We need a game with unimaginable scope like the elder scrolls to have it.

NO! Any form of multiplayer would ruin the Elder Scrolls series.
You keep saying this but HOW?!?! HOW!!!???!!!

You wouldn't HAVE to play it.

ITS A BLOODY OPTION IF YOU DON'T WANT IT!!!!

EDIT: Whoops, forgot witty comment

HOW?!?!?!?,
Rimmy
For co-op gameplay to work, the game has to be built with it in mind. Good singleplayer and good co-op are mutually exclusive (except if the co-op and singleplayer are kept strictly separate, like in Splinter Cell or Uncharted 2), but that wouldn't work at all in an expansive RPG like TES.
If they make the game for co-op, singleplayer will suffer. Go play Resident Evil 5 solo and come back to me.

"Co-op" in shooters is horrible, unless it's MADE for it, like Army Of Two. Because most of the time it's just too bloody easy, and besides, its just like a slightly shorter campagain, Beat it, beat it again, throw it away.

Plays the trumpet,

That's right. Why don't they build it with co-op in mind? If you read my eariler post, I showed you how to do a great co-op. You don't HAVE to play the same campagian. It might just be free roam or whatever.

Biteing the bullet,

it could be fun if skyrim had specail co-op quest were you have to go and kill a camp of really strong enemys or somthing like that but other wise i think co-op would get in the way. it would have to be very good co-op for me to use it because this kind of ame is meant to be played by one player. but if they do it right then im all for it.

Sigh, if you think it's meant to be single player, THEN PLAY THE SINGLE PLAYER! Just one or two co-op quests isn't fun. It's just a gimmick that they tell everyone so more people buy it. It's like saying theres sex scenes and then have a Mass Effect PG 13 no boobs scene.

Why did I say that?,

I gotta agree. Guys theres a reason why theres a choice of co-op and single. Just because you wanna play single dosent mean you should dam everyone else.

High fives?

Really, single players, stop ruining it for the co-op gods- I mean players out there. Just go save the world ok?

Saves the world in style!,

So why shouldn't it be included? As long as the single-player aspect isn't sacrificed (they could easily modify certain features to change depending on number of players), what would it hurt? You guys sound like the people bitching about the fast travel system in Oblivion: "WAAAAAAAHHHHHHH, IT RUINS THE EXPERIENCE!!!" Really? Then DON'T USE IT. It would be like GTA IV, it's an OPTION. No one is forcing you to ever touch it. So why ruin it for the people who would enjoy it?

See? That's just what I mean. It's like multiplayer on Red Faction: G. I don't like it. Big deal. I won't scream about how it ruins the game, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TO PLAY IT

If they could get the extra budget and hire more people to work separately on a multiplayer function.. then sure, its OPTIONAL. The people in this thread are acting like just because there COULD be multiplayer they would be FORCED to have it on 24/7.

Think fable 2? How many people actually play that coop? Not many? The single player part of that game is still fine.

HOWEVER, I personally think that Bethesdas games are buggy enough as is, and adding multiplayer would create all kinds of bugs. Thousands of em...

Well at least this is a step down from the the "why can't Mass Effect have coop?" Arguement me and my friend keep repeatedly having

[sub]Stupid Dave, it's singleplayer for a reason... You whore[/sub]

Obviously i agree with the singleplayer only crowd

I think ME should have it considering the game forcing you to be with 2 retarded A.I. throughout the game. More so since ME2 went towards more action like gears of war style than role playing. That's just my opinion though.

On Topic:
Well I agree that TES is single player only, because it was designed as such. It would be awkward with you being the dragon born, the elder scrolls predicted one so from a story point it wouldn't work.

The leveling system would make it more competitive than cooperative, with both players just going for kills because you level by using your abilities. Also as someone mentioned, there is no re-spawn. So would it be like halo on legendary, when one dies you both have to reload?

The fast travel system and waiting/sleeping system would force the other player to do the same, so both players free roaming away from each other would make this system suck.

Say you're in a cave fighting and your friend wants to level by sleeping or wait for the store to open, what would happen? Would you die because your character would wait and do fuck all while they savagely beat you into an unidentifiable bloody mess, kinda like waiting outside as a vampire and the sun kills you?
Or
Say your friend fast travels, wouldn't that screw you as well? Either by forcing you to fast travel as well or forcing you to wait while they travel. You have to wait otherwise the time would be screwed up, one would be playing at night (depending on how far away they fast travel) and the other during the day. If it goes like this then eventually there would be a time gap of about a month between both.

If you take these features out, then you would actually have to wait for the stores to open and travel to every location adding massive boredom during these moments.
