I think co-op would be a neat experience in an Elder Scrolls game.
I just hope:
A) You get to choose who jumps into your game, I really don't want some 11 year-old whiner adventuring with me.
B) It doesn't add content you can't experience in single player
With that, I beleive co-op would be a pretty awesome experience.

Not really. I'm a lone wolf. I play an assassin type character in Elder Scroll games. I rely on stealth and precision. Another person, even an NPC, would create too many new variables in stalking situations and would just be an unwanted liability.

Actually, I'd much rather have co-op in New Vegas. I think that would work well with that game (asides from VATS...) but I'm not altogether sure how it would work with a TES game.
Maybe it could work, including VATS, if they made it so that once one player activates VATS, they both make selections, and when both players are done, shit gets fucked up all around. In slow motion. With wonky physics.

Or, you know, just shoot the bastards. In real time. With Colt 1911s. And assault carbines.

It could even work, including the fucking annoying start tutorial area. Player A is the Courier, and gets the tutorial treatment, player B is player A's sibling/friend/squadmate/spouse/comrade-in-arms/lover, and loots the Doc's house while Player A gets the tutorial treatment. Player B would also create their character while player A gets the tutorial treatment, through a menu in the style of leaving the area, and wandering into the wasteland. And then when B inevitably finishes before A, the aforementioned house ransacking would begin.

As for mods...Real simple solution there: BOTH PLAYERS INSTALL THE SAME MODS. Another mod-based simple solution: an alternate start mod.

It would be cool if it was done properly, but that's the key phrase right there. I'd be up for it on the condition that it didn't detract any from the single player element, since that's what I'm there for in the first place. Honestly though, it sounds unworkable. It will take too much time and eat up too many resources to vet each and every possible scenario for both one- and two-player capabilities. Taking the Two Worlds II route and having a seperate landmass for single player and multiplayer, in my eyes, goes against everything the franchise stands for.

Then there's the problem of how the second player is going to act once ingame, hypothetically assuming the feature is actually implemented; I certainly don't want some random character plucked from cyberspace to be dropped into the game I'm hosting, since the first thing they'll probably do is head straight to my house and steal all my loot. Even assuming we don't squabble over the spoils of war or constantly rob and pickpocket each other, what if we don't choose to roleplay the same way, since that's at the heart of your co-op idea? What if my partner is playing a virginal Imperial handmaiden specialising speechcraft and healing spells bought from the chapels she frequents all around the province, while I'm a schizophrenic Dark Elf stalking the night with a dagger in my teeth and a lockpick in my boot, looking for prey to kill in the name of Sithis? That's going to be difficult for both of us, even discounting technical limitations and intense griefing.

tl;dr: It's a nice idea with a lot of big problems, so it should probably stay just a nice idea.

No I wouldn't like it. I have other games I can play with mates (GM of a wow guild) Skyrim will be some time to myself. I do wish Bethesda would make NPC's treat you like more of a part of the world though. It's wierd when your this hot female dark elf or a scary looking male argonian and not one person in the whole of cyrodiil acts differently towards you for it.

Ah I understand where your coming from now. You'd rather have a good stealth experience through the game without some asshole jumping in and spamming spells. Well I would think if there was co-op system in Skyrim, it wouldn't be compulsory to have active all the time. If they had some system similar to (as people have mentioned) Saint's Row 2's co-op option then it would be optional and you can choose whether you want people to join you in your giant quest or not. That way it means the feature won't affect your gameplay at all and would satisfy the players who wish to play with others in groups akin to a roving band of misfits or disciplined guild of friends or what have you.

I agree, there should be a Co-op mode, but for all RPGs not just Skyrim.

Online or 2-player split screen could be very viable. For Example:

Player 1 in single player game could visit Guilds or Taverns and speak to "Hireling" NPC's to hire them as a character for Player 2. These NPC's would retain any gear/levels gained during Co-op sessions in order to provide character progression to Player 2 as well.

Obviously enemy health and power would have to scale up, and maybe some boss mechanics altered if necessary, but this shouldn't be too much work.

Oh yeah and by the way, when I said join a co-op game, I meant like a server or whatever. You could either start a server online, a lan one, a split screen co-op and if you do start a server you could set limit on the players or a password so you don't get dicks or so the game doesn't get too hard.

Again, Play Co-Op,
Rimmy

Edit: Besides, for all you single player fans, it's not like they are forcing co-op on you. You might not like it, others might. So really, you don't have much to complain about.
The money and time that would be poured into co-op would be taken from working on single-player. So, yes, we do have something to complain about.

Dungeoning, yes. It might be trouble in quest hubs though, trying to interact with people and whatnot.

Well, i only got into it from Oblivion, but hell yeah, i think it would be awesome exploring the massive world of Skyrim, defeating dragons, defending villages and messing about on a grand legendary adventure with my mates.

Co-op would be nice, but I think I would want a vs mode like the Arena. Knowing that there will be difficulty due to enchantments and spells, there would have to be a way to balance it. I'm thinking having light and heavy Raiments that, unlike Oblivion, include the helm and shield, Arena weapons of all types and arena spells.

Noone has a loot, enchantment or spell advantage against the other. Just a fight to see who has the most skill.

There would be weekly battles to decide who gets to rank up. If you win your battle, you get to hit the next rank. If you lose, you have to wait until the next week to rank up.

The person who's grand champion must defend his/her title at least once a week to keep it. If they fail to do so, they will be stripped of grand champion and be returned to the rank before Grand Champion and the spot will be open for the top 20 players to battle for via randomly generated roster.

To prevent cheating, you may only battle those from your friends list and can only re-fight someone once every 2 weeks(in official rank matches, that is. You're free to fight anyone you want in the non-ranked arena as much as you want, Grand Champion included).

Still thinking about this Arena mode, mainly the leaderboard.

You are in co-op, and a top of the line magical item drops, 2 of you and only 1 item. Race you to it?

Co-op should not be added to this game, it would not improve it. Not even the half arsed Fable 2 co-op where the other player is some useless 1-step-up-from-npc.

Man either nobody here has a singe friend or actually njoys having dicks join there games.

Its your friend comon now. Cant you reason with your friend? I can. Decide who can benifit from it later. Anybody play Diablo? Dark Alliance? Champions? Magical items drop, you decide who will need it the most. You dont just steal everything, if so punch next time you se your friend.

Well, there aren't really any spells to heal or buff allies, and in several cases when NPCs were fighting on my side in Oblivion they would get in the way of my attacks, and also two players would make some of the quests of the style the Elder Scrolls is known for quite awkward or even outright unplayable. Although it still sounds kind of fun... maybe if there was an option for one player to distract a NPC while the other player picked their pocket? :p

I would love, I mean as long as they didnt remove any features first. Thats the number one thing, make the game as best as possible then add co-op. It people dont want it dont play it. If they do, then go crazy.

The enjoyment of Elder Scrols games for me comes from exploring a world and being a hero on my own. Co-op would ruin that ("I want to go this way!) and kill the immersion too.
