so, so many classic 16 bitters (and late 8 bitters)... when there was so much innovation and vision about, but the hardware maybe wasn't quite up to fulfilling it.
like, a proper modern successor to Stunt Car Racer (yes, that of the near-wireframe tracks and four-poly cars (8 including "wheels")), with Screamer to take up the purely arcadey racing side (now that we can do - gasp - SVGA graphics without intense slowdown) ... mega lo mania and/or cannon fodder ... descent (and Tie fighter & its ilk of course) ... Elite/Frontier (and Linewars?) ... pretty much anything Jeff Minter made back in the day (upto Tempest 2000 at the least)... and Rise of the Triad!
Is it too late to actually get a 21st century Duke Nukem game?
Or an up to date Monkey Island (/other lucasarts title) that doesn't suck?
and once again i could probably bang on all night, not least because thats where my formative years were spent. Happily, a lot of what I would choose HAS got recent versions (Colin McRae series, for example) or things that work as analogues (various up-to-date stand-ins for Populous, Midwinter, Mercenary and a raft of arcade titles...)
and decent updates of FF6 and some kind of Worms game* for the DS, thankee kindly
(* this may already have happened ... I've had to ban myself from getting a DS because, honestly, i'd never put it down again, ever)
