The ideas of religion were never devised. i.e. no roman gods, no egyptian gods, no christianity, no crusades, no religious segragation. Would make for an interesting topic

Better idea: religion didn't interfere with science, being left as a completely spiritual factor.

Or: the whole world would have only 1 religion. Therefore religious conflicts never existed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Athens and Sparta had higher regards towards women as opposed to other empires or nation-states of the time?

If the Christians hadn't held back science for a thousand years.

I could be taking a digital poop now.

Then again, there might not even be:

1) the US of A (although some of you would like that, can't blame ya...)
2) free education (Puritans pushed for it back in the day)

I have no idea.
The only thing I'm pretty certain of is that it'd be Monotheistic, since it caught on much better and it replaced all the former religions, meaning it appealed to peopel much better.

Very reasonable. Maybe it wouldn't be ritualistic at all, like most monotheistic religions, and would focus on the self.

Or just maybe I'm overthinking this.

Early man developed religion to explain the natural world. The very foundation of religion, the animistic nature worship ones, represent the first time that man really questioned the world around him. His explanations were very wrong, but it formed the basis for inquiry that eventually led to science. If we take religion out of the grand equation, humanity might end up stupider. But if you're just talking about the Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah religions, I can't see any harm.

OT:It'd be cool, but I don't think the Romans could have kept it together for 2000+ years. Their 800 year empire is still the high score. I don't count the Japanese Emperors, since most of them were figureheads.

A good idea, but it also lends to something that'll make your project easier (if it's story-based); write it set in the Fallout Universe.

OP: Maybe you could look into what it would be like if we had superheroes. You'd look into how they affected the Cold War and if/how nuclear war was averted. Go into detail about what these superheroes were like.
