from personal experience they are different games, i love mass effect 1 and 2 to death, but i fell asleep playing half life 1 and 2 multiple times, i just could not get into itblalien said:I like shooters with real intellectual depth behind them, like Mass Effect or Metroid Prime, but tend not to like the hardcore stuff like Call of Duty or Halo. To be fair, I get Aby_Z. You seemed (to me at least) to be deliberately obtuse here. If that's not the case, I apologize, but that's how you were coming off to me.chozo_hybrid said:Way to prove your point.
I guess I can see how it might come off that way, but telling someone to get out like that person did was just rude.P.Tsunami said:To be fair, I get Aby_Z. To tackle the OP, I'll echo what many here have said: Both are great games. But apples/oranges, it depends on your tastes as a whole. Liking Mass Effect is no guarantee that you'll like Half Life, or vice-versa. While Mass Effect is my favorite of the two (being an avid fan of RPGs), I do recommend Half Life whole heartedly.
I suppose that's fair. I took Aby_Z as joking (with the "Get out" comment; it made me laugh, at least), but yeah. I understand where you're coming from.chozo_hybrid said:I guess I can see how it might come off that way, but telling someone to get out like that person did was just rude.
I also did give example and reason for my argument *shrugs* I played fair. I gave reason and explanation to what I said each time, and when he/she couldn't think of anything else to say she was rude to me as well.
Plus, to someone not too familiar with games, the titles might seem similar.
Well then would this be a bad time to say I can't find a what is so great about that game besides the grav gun, and even that was useless until the end. I fail to see why that game has such a huge following except for the fact that Valve made it, I'm not saying it's bad, just mediocre. And Citizen Kane was also incredibly boring.elricik said:No dear sir I dare say it is not. You cannot argue that Half Life 2 isn't one of the greatest games ever created, and has influenced the industry ever since its release. This game is surely on any video gamer buffs top ten list, just as Citizen Kane or Casablanca would be on the top ten list of a film buff.Cody211282 said:Why it's just like playing any other FPS, except every now and then you have to drive the worst car ever.elricik said:Yes, if you haven't played Half-Life 2 yet, then I dare say you are not a gamer!
Mass Effect 1 is one of my favorite games of all time! But I hate Half Life. If that helps any...blalien said:I like shooters with real intellectual depth behind them, like Mass Effect or Metroid Prime, but tend not to like the hardcore stuff like Call of Duty or Halo. Did no one read the spoiler tags? You're missing the point...Aylaine said:Not really sure how they copied them when Mass Effect came out...I dunno, 3 years after Half Life 2 did?feather240 said:I disagree, if anything they're a lot alike. HL2s romance subplots copy MAs exactly.Aylaine said:Half Life is very, very different from MA. You would have to play it to see what I mean. You really can't compare them.

According to Wikipedia:
Now Half Life 2, by contrast:Mass Effect is an action role-playing game developed by BioWare for the Xbox 360 and then ported to Microsoft Windows by Demiurge Studios. The Xbox 360 version was released worldwide in November 2007 published by Microsoft Game Studios. The Windows version was released on May 28, 2008, published by Electronic Arts.[11]
Action WRPGs =/= Sci fi FPS games. Their both sci fi, and involve shooting, but I believe that's where the comparisons would stop. That is why, for me, I can't compare them because they aren't the same genre of video game.Half-Life 2 is a science fiction first-person shooter computer game and the sequel to the highly acclaimed Half-Life. It was developed by Valve Corporation and was released on November 16, 2004
Deus Ex, which has Dialogue trees and RPG elements... I only rented Half Life 2 but I dont' see anything really in common with Mass Effect in it meanwhile Deus Ex has at least has plenty of RPG elements for a FPS.blalien said:I like shooters with real intellectual depth behind them, like Mass Effect or Metroid Prime, but tend not to like the hardcore stuff like Call of Duty or Halo. For me it was the fact, that I had to use the keyboard to control the buggy/mudskipper/ep2 car. I don't think that a keyboard is a good input device in this specific case. At least for me.RAKtheUndead said:I never saw what the big problem with the car was - as far as I could tell, it handled relatively realistically, and was therefore preferable to something that handled like something out of an arcade game.
Seconded, get out.Aby_Z said:...blalien said:They're both shooters? I dunno.Aby_Z said:What the hell? They're completely different games! You can't compare 'em!
Pick a different game to compare to it!
Get out >.<
