If you could be any mythological creature, what would you be?

Dragon+God=Bahamut/Tiamat. Some dragons are so powerful they can become deities themselves.
Being a dragon is a pretty sweet gig. Only thing you have to fear is intrepid adventurers, but that means you can just spend all your time booby-trapping your lair. You have enough gold to command mercenaries, you have enough magical skill to rival wizards, you have enough power to command nations. You have an insane love of gold, and luckily for you it is easy to get it. Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility, unless you don't feel like it.

In some lore they have shapeshifting powers too, so if you ever get bored with being a dragon, you can chill as whatever other mythical beastie you like. (In DnD lore, they apparently sleep around a lot in other forms, leading to a lot of half-dragon offspring)

Good question.

I'll pick Cerberus.
Why? He's the three headed dog guardian of the Underworld.
I'm not saying he's the best mytological creature, I just find him to be cool.

From my D&D character's standpoint I would say a werewolf (because of the variety of being mythical and yet still human), but in reality I would say a dragon. Do I really have to explain why (powerful, rich, and I can claim I am a god if I go to Japan or China)?

An honest politician.
I love this.

But I would actually be an ancient spirit of evil, the sort of primordial being who's worshipped by doom cults (all the ones that aren't after Great Old Ones, that is).

You do know that the male gryphon didn't have wings, right?

OT: I'd have to go with Dragon too.
As Yahtzee would say, "I'm quite impressed by people who can affect such an authoritarian tone when reciting facts they've blatantly pulled out of their arse."

I'd be a Saiyan with the capability of transforming into a Super Saiyan 4.

Failing that, I'd be an elf. I've already got most of the physical traits of the stereotypical elf. All I need at this point are the ears. And the magic. The magic would be nice.

A siren/naiad/mermaid/whatever you want to call it would be pretty awesome. Chill out in the ocean all day, and then use some shapeshifting or singing to mess with humans when you're bored.
