If you could go back in time and stop a game from being made, which one would it be?

doom. ive got nothing against it, but without it, the modern FPS would be based on system shock. i never actually played the first one (it seems rather elusive) but i played the second one briefly (and curse myself for that-but in my defense, i was only 9 and it wasnt my computer) and bioshock... i also played halo, UT(at least 2 of them) briefly, and doom2 briefly. need i say more?

Final Fantasy
The most famous and influencial JRPG of all time.
[sarcasm]Nice.[/sarcasm]
And we found the fanboi.

yes it influenced all the other crappy so called JRPG's, witch need to be recatagorized for they are not even RPG's , but lowly Japanese animation games or JAG?s for short.
Fanboy...eh? I haven't even played FF 10-12 so, you can't really call me a 'fanboi' as you so oddly put it. Anyway aside from your many grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, I cannot see any evidence to disprove the fact FF is the most infuencial JRPG of all time.
Wow the spiky headed little freaks are popping out of the wood work.

You guys are overly sensitive, emo much?

Spelling mistakes, please if you coming to a forum about video games and think that everyone is going to spell every word correctly all that time. Not only are you a fool, but a complete and total tool when you point it out. But trying to use it as an argument as to why my opinion should be discredited when it is going along with the topic at hand?.well that kind of pathetic, well not even kind of it just is.
No it just annoys me when people spell words wrong, but with the same amount of letters: fanboi=fanboy, witch=which, recatagorized=recategorized. Anyway that wasn't really my point. The fact is you still haven't given me any evidence that FF is a particulary bad game, the reason you don't like it and any to disprove the fact that it quote,

Edit: Feel free to call me a fanboy though, it makes me think of little kid who can fly, using a massive fan on his back.

Halo, because it encouraged the already oversaturated FPS genre.
no see, you wanna go to the source, and kill doom. it might still be saturated, but it would be satured with quality shit with elements from other genres spliced in

Perfect Dark Zero. Such a dissapointment after the original.

Perfect Dark was a fantastic game. expecially the muliplayer was so fantastic, what other game can you gin an entire map with remote mines and then seal yourself in a small room and watch the map explode.

but really i was soo looking forward to number two but just no

It - first-person shooters - might not be popularized either, which is no less problematic. Aside from which, DOOM was awesome.

I mentioned Halo for several reasons. Let's look at them.

Halo because of the things it introduced to other games. Like regenerating health, limited weapon slots, console fanboys and teabagging. Gah!
What's wrong with the former two? And it didn't popularize that latter two.

If I'd go back in time I'd make a game have regenerating health and limited weapons sooner. That way maybe we wouldn't have all these people who think the only proper way to make a shooter is to make the play pick up arbitrary health packs to restore their hitpoints and allow them to carry an arsenal worthy of an apocalypse army.
Regenerating health is fine, if there's a suitable reason for it. Halo had one - you were in a suit of armour. Name me one other game that has regenerating health where the hero has armour like that (Haze excepted). Hard? Damn straight.

Limited weapon slots means you can't carry a variety of cool weapons. Someone else already addressed this, but given that my favourite weapons are shotgun, machine gun, sniper rifle and rocket launcher, being forced not to carry most of those doesn't feel right. Besides, it's more forced realism in games where it doesn't really apply - Sci-Fi games in particular.

While there have always been console fanboys, they never really hit the 'mainstream' (god I hate that word now) until Halo. Suddenly you had college fratboys and the kids who used to beat you up claiming they were 'into' games, and with that, came an explosion of teabagging and insults, which were only escalated with headsets and got worse as the sequels were released.

Gaming has forever been changed by Halo, and I for one don't automatically think it's for the better.

Maybe the original Zelda, to see how it shaped the future.
I don't want to imagine a world without Zelda. The very idea scares me.

Correct your mistake. [http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,211.0.html]

I'm going to go with ET the game. It would be interesting to see if it's removal would have lessened the crash of 1985. Probably not, but who knows.
I have to agree, ET was one if not the worse game ever.

Well. I'd say world of warcraft. But then again, it does feed Blizzard tons of money to create games like the new Diablo and Starcraft :D. So, i'll leave that one be.

So... I think I'm going to go for Guitar Hero. Cause it dumbs down music to a level a real guitar playing person cannot begin to understand.

I think that all games have contributed to the making of good games, so I don't think that any game shouldn't have been made.

The topic of this thread is "If you could go back in time and stop a game from being made, which one would it be?"

Well my answer is Final Fantasy, if you don't like it GTFOI. Why you must ask, well that day I have to justify my opinion to you or anyone else, well let's just say that the day that I snap it's going to be verey bad.

But.

It's not a good game and it spawned a lot of very bad games for years to come. And someone had the nerve to label them RPG's.
I'm gonna try and steer this away from descending into a schoolyard brawl and actually question why you don't think Final Fantasy is either an RPG or very good. Assuming we're talking about the same one - I take it to mean the very first one on the NES. Or PSone. Or GBA. Etc.

Assuming that's true, then you're suggesting the very original FF was rubbish (it was pretty good for the time, and actually holds up pretty well today, provided you don't care about plot, or lack thereof), wasn't an RPG (which it was, in almost every sense of the word - random battles, fetch and carry quests, leveling up, class systems, etc) and has spawned so many games under the same title, at least SOME of which were good (6, 9 and Tactics in particular, and I personally have a soft spot for 8, mostly due to the card game it had and the fact that one of your team was a freakin' sniper).

So yeah, I have to question your statement a little. Though if you meant 7, then I'm right up there with you.

Halo I can understand, although I personally have no real issues with halo.

But smash brothers? Easily the funnest nintendo 64 game I have played, Me and a group of friends have had such good times playing that.

Warcraft, well, Why? It's a rather decent series of RTS's. What issues do you have with it?

Even though I enjoy playing guitar hero and rock band, they're just... err..
The world of music would be a better place without them.

But I would have to say Grand Theft Auto takes the cake by a long shot.

Perhaps we need a product to help you avoid these JAG's, such as JAGaway or JAGoff.

Now exscuse me while I go start JAGing away with one of my JRPG's.

Also, I would stop whatever game has prevented the production of a new, next gen KIRBY game.

Smash Bros was a clunky, and boring game in my opinion. The fighting system has always been hacked together, collision is shoddy, and the AI is mediocre at best. Graphically the last one on Wii looked decent, but it takes more than graphics for a good title. Over all it's a poor Nintendo title that somehow became successful.

With WC, I have always been a CnC fan myself and Warcraft just doesn't deliver on the same scale and skill that Command and Conquer always has. The gameplay is too narrow and slow. Ultimately Blizzard goes for high graphics and low gameplay, keeping a narrow scope in both vision as well as gameplay. The very first Warcraft was innovated for its time, and was quite impressive. I just haven't seen them advance much on it. Granted, CnC hasn't advanced much either, but it just feels like the next stage of RTS evolution over WC.
