Venezuela: Reasoning is simple. This is a nation with a significant oil reserve found in a beautiful tropical landscape that I am comfortable within. it is also home to one of the races of history I am greatly interested in and would allow for further study of this long lost culture.
The people are already pro-socialist, understanding the benefits of government based corporative bodies and how good they can be for everyone, not just the rich. They have also proven, thrice, to rise up in support of their leaders when larger nations like the US or their own rich population try and stage a coup. They are very much socialists, which is what happens when the government uses corporate money to give them homes and food. I would further that, giving them information networks, government owned manufacturing bases, and a range of other programs designed to be a bizarre blending of fascism (Government and business in cahoots) and socialism. All designed to make any nation stronger, wealthier and of course better off.
I would feel safer with such people backing me then say the US, in which the people would resist every move I put forth to make their lives better through socialism. Propaganda is too think in the US for any successful move for the government to bettering it's people. They don't want any of that 'icky socialism' crap even if it means the difference between their own family eating or starving.
