If you had superpowers would you tell anyone?

The answer is NOOOOO. Anybody you tell would have to carry the burden. A burden most normal people can't deal with. They would spill your secret under enough pressure or frustration.

If people knew about your powers they would capture you and do anything to take that power from you. If your powers were destructive there would be huge national security concerns. Something similar to what happened in Watchmen.

No. If people knew I had powers I wouldn't be left alone to my own devices. And that would suck ^^

It would depend on the power. If I could use it in day to day life then people are just going to know about it. If it was relatively useless then I would probably not tell people.
Nice display pic, brah. Just wanted to let you know that I like it :|

Also, I think the term 'superpower' qualifies the power you have as super. Like, super-hero standards of super. And not Ant-man, because that's not a superpower. I'd love to be told exactly why being 3 inches tall is considered a superpower, because it just seems to me that it would be incredibly inconvenient - nay - life threatening. I guess maybe Ant-man has other powers that I don't know about. I hope he does, anyway.

I'd tell all of my friends about my powers, then make them my henchmen.

Yep. I would totally go the tony stark route. Demonstrate powers to camera crews and milk fame for all its worth. My ego would eventually be much greater than my super powers.

Being a superhero is nice and all, but here's the problem: Nobody's ever done it before. You can't just up and say you're a real-life super-powered vigilante. I'm taking my powers to a U.S. research facility and signing myself up for special ops. Nothing like "Superpowered Man Catches Osama bin Ladin" in the news to get people excited about supers. Yes, I'd be throwing away my personal liberties by letting myself be militarized, but being a hero is about self-sacrifice, and my sacrifice would allow future heroes to live out their dreams of being Superman.

If my superpower was the same as the one where I had to be naked in order to use it, then I wouldn't have to tell anyone.

All of humanity would simply accept my power (and my nudity) as is.

No, for a number of reasons:

1: If I had superpowers the government would want to know how/why/when, etc. Human guinea pigs are not cool my friends.

2: Should I engage in any heroic activities and I inadvertently piss someone off, my family could become targets. Think "Mob hit" as a middle-of-the-road response and you're on the right track.

3: People would expect things from you. Were you in the neighborhood when that kid got run over by a truck? Why didn't you save him? You've got superpowers! It's all your fault, etc. And that can be both inner and exterior dialogue, depending on your own moral bend.

4: Corporations would want you, pretty much for the same reasons the government wants you.

5: If your powers are aquired in some sort of industrial accident, you can be sure that others will try to duplicate this accident. Maybe they'll die or get horribly mangled...or God forbid...they get it right.

No one can keep a secret like that, not even your best friend or lover. Someone, somewhere would slip up. It would be a secret to carry with you until you died and even then, hopefully no one would find out, because they'd all want your corpse...and possibly all your descendants.

Oh HELL no!

As the first Spiderman movie said "Spiderman is all but invincible. But Peter Parker...Yes, Parker is vulnerable. We must strike at HIM!"

So I'd keep my identity secret. I don't want my family being taken out just to get at me.

I'd tell my girlfriend and my circle of closest friends. That's it.

i don't think i would openly tell anyone but i wouldn't not use my powers in front of someone if i had to so people would find out eventually i guess.

A superpower, that let's everyone inherently know that I have a superpower, that let's everyone inherently know I have a superpower.

Yes, I think this could work.

eh at first no, i would practice night and day to control it till i knew the extent of what i could do, then i would do it to do two things

help people

possibly win me some cash if at all possible (yes, im human, i like money, lay off)

eventually i would tell maybe one or two of my closest friends..but thats it mostly.
You don't know how many times I've thought this and never seen it come up in similar threads. High five. I would tell nobody initially, but I would practice day and night like I was training up to become some kind of grand champion. I too am torn between heroics and the thought of touring the country and doing the today show like some sort of "that's incredible" segment.

Hmmm

If I got any kind of powers that pretty much make you invulnerable ideally combined with a decent splattydoom power, then yeah I'd pretty much tell the world, cuz why not ? Sure I'd probably live to regret it eventually, but as long as I get a good decade of sheer naked awesome, I'd be ok with that. You can get a lot of luvin' done that way.

Alternatively, if I don't get to be invincible, then I'd say no, keep it secret.

Basically, any kind of super powers are pretty much a ticket to riches and fame and whatever else, but if you are still a squishy mortal, then its better to have people think you're just lucky/smart/whatever. If people know you are doing weird stuff to them, then thats just asking for someone to come and dissect you.

I think I'd actually prefer mind powers myself, and again kept secret. From mind reading to hypnosis, its all cool. The big flashy powers are all good and that, but you pretty much have to accept that if you use them for evil or even morally ambiguous purposes then its going to be incredibly obvious and people are at least going to try and stop you. At the very least, you are going to have problems spending any of your ill gotten gains.

Contrasted to mind powers, where you can almost be as evil as you like with them, invading peoples privacy, getting your own way and talking your way out of speeding tickets. As long as you are smart, no-one will even notice what you are doing. It'll pretty much just seem like you lead a charmed life, and then you just have to keep your head under radar, and you are golden.

Telling people about my superpower (invisibility) would really, really defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?

Also, because all these superhero threads annoy me and therefore YOU MUST ALL BE PUNISHED:

I'm not the fighting evil type. Call me coward. but just because you have superpowers doesn't mean you can't get hurt. I would tell a few people perhaps my mom and my boyfriend and perhaps my brother. and that is about it. I would only use it on certain occasions.
