I do, and that is my vision.

What those people posted is pretty pathetic. That one particular girl that said "I love Jesus, and the cross. If you don't, I hope someone rapes you!"

Wow.

PEOPLE WATCH FOX NEWS?!?!?
Yeah! It's the best sitcom since Seinfeld! That Bill O'Reilly; what a character!!!

Anyway, these people are scum, and if you run into anyone like them, show them what a SANE and INTELLIGENT person is like. Lead by example, friends.
In the case of a single individual? Maybe. In a group? Hell no. Some people are beyond convincing and should be avoided (physically and in an argument).

Honestly, after looking into the law suit, it's not that silly. They're suing, not because there was a religious symbol in the memorial (they don't actually care about that), but because it was the only religious symbol. Again, not because no other religious symbol was asked to be put up there, but because all the other requests were denied. They're suing because NY said that only the Christian symbol should be there. They're suing for religious equality, saying that there was no reason to deny other religions

People may think it's silly to fight over that, but honestly, a fight over any kind of equality is a fight worth having. You can't create equality by deciding what is and is not a silly type of equality to pursue

Just saying

Very reasonable then. Question: Is it actually an Atheist organization making the lawsuit. If it is, then the only thing I find a little odd is that it would be atheists suing for more religious symbols to be allowed. I would think that individual religious groups would be suing for their own. Atheists would be uninvolved one would think.

I can think of two reasons for this decision by NY:
1) The US still thinks of itself as a country founded on a single religion, Christianity. Their founding principal seems to be, yes you can come here, but you will adapt to our ways/beliefs. The whole melting pot idea. But given their stand on freedom of speech, etc. one would think they should accept the idea of multi-culturalism by now.

2) If they do allow other religious symbols for each religion that wants them... what happens when the muslims want one added. I completely believe that their were a lot of moderate (i.e. not crazy fundamentalist) muslims who were probably shocked and hurt by the Word Trade Center attack... but I can't imagine most of the people in the US would be okay with a symbol representing anything close to the group who was responsible for the attack being placed there as a memorial. So easier to deny all religious symbols (except their founding religion) than allow all by one?

Not saying I agree with those reasons... but I'm guessing they were the big two reasons for the decision.

You are absolutely right. Matthew chapter 5 verse 21+22 "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement"

Yeah, I guessing these guys are about as Christian as Vishnu. Honestly, they are shouting for the complete opposite of what is in the Bible, and what any competent Christian should know. "Do onto others as they should do onto you" "love your neighbour as yourself". These guys do NOT stand for what other competent Christians stand for, and are in no way a valid depiction of how a Christian should act.

Beyond the "I don't think they get it" part about the Christian ideals I am also astounded that they posted their thoughts using what appears to be real names and real facebook accounts.

I just don't know what to say to that. Stunning really.

I'm reminded of 2 of my favorite quotes of all time:

"Jesus Christ was a man that preached kindness, love, mercy, and good will towards all of mankind. More people have been killed in his name than for any other cause in human history."

and

"The pilgrims left for the New World for religious tolerance. Apparently what that means was to be able to establish a country with the most startlingly oppressive form of Christianity the world had ever seen."
You'll like this one from Mark Twain "If Christ was here today he wouldn't be a Christian."

First quote... not sure, lots of other religions have killed a lot too... but quite possibly Christians have done the most. Probably due to timing, as technology allows for a lot more killing in shorter periods of time, and a lot of the technology came about in a time and place when Christians were in power.

Second quote. Definitely false. Sorry, but the US is FAR from being one of the most religiously oppressive countries of all time. It's not even one of the most oppressive with regards to Christianity. It is definitely biased, has a high majority of Christians, and contains some real nutjobs in that regard... but I bet you can find a dozen other countries around the world much more religiously oppressive right now. And as for Christian-only oppression... think back a few centuries or more... the crusades for instance. Lots more examples long before the US ever started, and since then too. Not saying the isn't a lot of intolerance, but it's much more civilized than a lot of other places and times.

Third quote (Mark Twain). Ya, that one is probably VERY true. Or depending on how you look at it, he WOULD be Christian, but he'd greatly demonstrate how very few others who claim his name actually ARE.

For some reason I cant help but laugh at them. I hope they enjoy wasting thier lives on religion, then they die, no afterlife just a wasted life.

If only hey could see that.

Normally I'd be against someone saying people are "wasting their lives on religion"... but in this case I'd say you hit the nail on the head (pun intended). These people ARE wasting their lives, claiming to be followers of a peacemaker by being violent and angry. According to their own beliefs combined with their actions, they will end up in a very unpleasant place. That sort of defines 'wasting a life' to me.

Oh, also. Love the poster.

The depressing thing is many of those Fox News watching Americans making threats of murder probaby own guns. Also they claim that us Atheists have no rights as the American atheists are "un-American", well guess what dipshits, human rights are protected in the constitution and the first amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by Congress or the preference of one religion over another, I know that and I live in Britain, stupid cretins.

Not surprised... I have been an Atheist for as long as I have been capable of making rational decisions and I have had indirect and very direct threats against my life for being one. Just find it peculiar that one of those people seems to be displaying a picture of herself in a graduation gown which implies education.

Or course, the lawsuit is silly already.

Honestly, I just dismiss it as childish. Since people aren't concerned about grammar on Facebook, those threats lack any gravitas.
As a Christian let me just say, aren't there extremists in every religion? Even Atheists?
And to answer your question yes it would be considered a sin and let me quote Daniel Tosh by saying Christianity is a religion where we can all live bad lives repent and go to heaven, I've read the cliffsnotes.
Firstly, atheism isn't a religion, but I'm guessing you didn't actually mean it that way.

Secondly, I've never heard of cases of atheist extremism. ie people killing in the name of atheism. Sure, there's definitely been atheist psychopaths but, like video games, the atheism was incidental. Atheism is just one single belief or disbelief depending on how you view it.Not enough there to form a murderous world view.

I haven't heard anything about this...

What's the lawsuit?
You probably got the answer by now, but just in case, right?
It boils down to this; a bunch of people want to put the steel cross found at ground zero on display somewhere, and a bunch of over religious atheist (no you read that right) don't want them to do it and are being real jerks about the whole thing. They are trying to take away the religious rights of anyone not atheist, and the people at Fox are trying to take away all the rights of anyone not christian (and only the right kind of christian. No! Not that one! Yes that one.)

What we are seeing here is two heads of the same hydra knocking into each other.
That hydra's name? "The over religious jerks that want you to ONLY believe what they believe."

God is the truth you don't "have" to believe in,(You can believe but it is not a requirement. Jesus said so.), and religion is the lie (almost) everyone else tries to make you believe in.

because it would be playing right into the hands of religious extremists everywhere.

The World Trade Center attacks were an attempt by Islamic radicals to spark a holy war with the West. So by erecting a monument to it in the name of Christianity (rather than just democracy or freedom or some such) aren't we giving them exactly what they wanted. We would be making the war on terror about religion, not justice.
Religion is and (for the most part) has always been a part of war. The only thing this cross is (suppose) to represent is a bit of hope seen in even dark times.
Also, a bit of info people never talk about is that the jewish and islamic people DO believe in Jesus. Just not the same way that christians do.( ie. The son of God.)
That said; All religion (including atheism) is a lie. God is the only truth, and you need not believe to be loved.

Really, those posts make me terribly uneasy. I always see posts on Facebook that say, "If you aren't afraid of being a Christian and a True American repost this." Are you kidding? Be afraid of being a Christian? I'm more afraid of not - and these post confirm why. Because I have been threatened before. In high school, by a bunch of overly religious girls who were offended that I said I didn't believe and that I thought God didn't exist. I seriously thought they were going to jump me for Jesus. What always irritates me is the Christians = True Americans, part. Yeesh. *sigh* These people are sad and ignorant. I don't even care if they believe and if they live their lives that way, but they shouldn't threaten those that are different and have different views. It's extremely childish and these are unnecessary disturbingly violent reactions.

I always find these type of things absolutely hilarious. These people trying to represent Christianity by saying people should be killed and raped. The irony is so delicious..

That's a nice peaceful religion about forgiveness and equality you've got there.
I was thinking the same thing. So deliciously ironic, eh?

By the rules of their own religion, I'm pretty sure they're scoring some MAJOR negative karma-meter points with the Man upstairs. Some people need a refresher course on the fundamentals that their religion was founded on before spouting their fat mouth off.
