All that and that Rome:Total War was better.
I got it 3 years ago and still play the crap out of it. I couldn't stand to play an hour of HL2, or anything on the Orange Box really (flame shield act.... oh no... the BSOD, DAMN YOU MICROSOOOOOFT!!!!). And thanks in part to Steam, I really hate Empire: Total War (other part being the retardly broken AI).

I am REALLY surprised Halo or Call of Duty wasn't on the list. A pleasant one, but surprising.

God of War is an incredible game and I totally agree it deserves mentioning in a top 10. I play that game when I'm frustrated and just rip enemies apart: very cathartic. However, I don't want to play it all the time when I'm frustrated: climbing out of Hades makes me angry.

What on earth are you talking about? The whole forum started gushing and fawning when Fallout 3 came out, people now complain about ME2 threads but there were far more Fallout 3 threads when it came out.

It would have been better if they were paising a good game but Fallout 3 recieved far more love hear than anywhere else I've seen.

I tend not to listen to these lists anyway. If I want my opinion on games, I'll quite happily keep them to myself. Games are too complicated to say which is best, and people will never agree on anything. Top ten lists are stupid, full stop. ESPECIALLY when they involve something as broad as gaming and have the cheek to name a "number one".

I've seen quite a few people in this thread hating on it and I was just calling that out and defending a good title :)

I think Halo wasn't because while it was popular, it really didn't do anything to revolutionize anything. It was standard humans vs. aliens in a shooter with it's popularity linked to it's online mulitiplayer and nothing else. Call of Duty wouldn't be on there without it's Modern Warfare tag on because the CoD in WWII is repetitive and not unique. COD4 as I said earlier gave the players a solid online with a story mode that was new, fresh, and powerful without being overbearing and taking away from the fun

It really is a game to relieve stress. As said in ZP, we play video games to unwind, and nothing brings one to ease more than being able to beat hordes of enemies into submission with pure power. And it fits well with the epic story telling of the game and the characterization of Kratos.

The first Halo has been ripped off time and time again and has become a cultural icon. It has introduced several aspects of gameplay that are used in most FPS games today. In my opinion it is one of the most important and influential games of all time.
Why isn't it on this list?
And where is Two Worlds? Clive Barker's Jericho? This list sucks!

Fallout 3 wasn't a bad game, it was actually a fun game, large world, fantastic and epic little journies and a lot of customization. It's just not top 10 material because it didn't bring anything really new to the table besides the VATS aiming system, but it wasn't enough to make it one of the top 10 of the decade, in fact, it might only be on there because the replay value is high and it's still fresh in our minds, a lot more than the early games of '00-'04/'05 even, like Metroid Prime

There's a game that needs to be on this list. Metroid Prime. Taking my childhood and putting it into 3D. What a great trilogy.
I like your taste CheckD3!

Half-Life, WOOOO! It's one of the few there that I've played. Together with Fallout 3 and Counterstrike.

It hasn't really brought much to the table besides online, but because it sold well and has been able to make money, people pull ideas from it, like health bars, how many FPSs actually have health bars anymore. Remember how hard it was to survive with no health? Halo just made gaming a little easier with the regenerating health that brought so much in that other games use it themselves

If the list was based on pure popularity, it would be in the top 5, if not the top 3, but in pure quality, I think it doesn't match up to the top 10 quality games

O, quality. I thought it was best based on several different qualities, such as innovation and gameplay length.

I must have missed something here.

KOTOR is overrated.
Okami is overrated.
Grand Theft Auto was innovative, but ultimately overrated.

Where is WoW?
Where is Halo: Combat Evolved?
Where is Call of Duty 4?

These are 3 of the most influential games of the decade, and they get shunned. I know I know, opinion is opinion, yada yada.
Woa woa woa!

You did miss something here.
Namely your brain.

Theres a difference between being influential And being a great game.

I played it on both and preferred the Xbox version. It's more a matter of opinion. Some people like having more options on their PC but I don't like having to look at what button I'm pressing compared to having all the buttons conveniently located in reach.

Ever since IGN gave Fable 2 more than a 5 but gave games like No More Heroes less than an 8, I gave up reading or caring about their score system and overall opinion. IGN is just terrible and they prolly went of sales rather than quality (even though I do like most of those games I just disagree on the list)

I think KotOR is too high up. It has a good story, but has some problems (like the boring and repetitive combat). Also, I think Super Mario Galaxy is overrated. It's a great game, but not THAT great. Mostly because it's way too easy. I got all the stars once, and only some of the prankster comets were challenging. I won most of them on the first try.
KOTOR is not overrated. It deserves every single little spec of praise it gets.
That's just your opinion. What, is everything you say the absolute truth or something?

But on the point, I think it's a good game, but like I said, it's combat is bad. It doesn't require almost any strategy (spam power attack and heal when necessary), is repetitive and boring. Plus the moral choice system is (like almost always) kill everyone or save everyone and give them some money, too.

But like I said, it's a good game, and I don't want to start an argument over whether it does deserve exactly all the praise it's got or does it not. It's just a matter of opinion.

I think Halo isn't on this list because most people think that GTA III was a better game.

It's my fault that I played it on a console? I find it incredibly hard to justify a game's relevance and "goodness" based on whether it's played on a console or a PC. If it's a good game, it won't matter whether it's on console or PC.
