IGN's top 25 consoles of all time [Completed listing]

Any ideas, views, about the current list or expectations for which console will sit in the final five?.

Top 5 will probably include the Master System, at least one of the PS1/2, S/NES and the Dreamcast (I can dream right?).
I'd put money on the PS1 or 2 being number 1, they're the consoles that truly took gaming mass market, they also took console gaming from 2-D platformers all the way to massive open worlds. Kids of the 90's aren't called the Playstation Generation for nothing.

I only say the dreamcast because it's the one that got online console gaming off the ground, Microsoft ran with it with Live but Sega were the ones to actually man up and try it, then get royally burned in the process.

Top 10 has to have the 360, Wii and N64 in it, just because of fashion, sales and Goldeneye respectively.

I just don't see how the PS3 could be ranked so low. What other 10 systems could be better than it? :/

Snes
PS1 and 2
Xbox 360 which probably land way higher on the list.
Nintendo 64
Dreamcast (If it even made the list)

So there are still 3 rather unknown systems. Oh and they better not include Virtual Boy.

If they are actually going to do this right, then the 2600 should be number 1: I mean it did only invent home gaming. After that, I'd like to see the SNES (rather self-explanitory), the Home Pong Console (It only played one game, but it still sold like mad), the PS2 or PS1 (both made their indellible marks on the industry), and either the mega drive or NES to close out the top 5 (Mega Drive had a lasting impression on the industry, NES showed Nintendo's ability to adapt).

However, were either the PS1/2 or the Xbox 360 to win, then this list would be nothing but a mushroom-shaped tattoo on my face (in my point of view, anyways). None of the systems mentioned would've even existed had the 2600 not been successful, so it rightfully deserves top spot.

Again, try putting your fanboyism away and think about it. The original Xbox was the first online console, and it revolutionised the console FPS market.

I would say that's how it will look.

That's probably fairly accurate. Maybe place the NES a bit higher, since it resurrected gaming.

Where would like it to be then?. Higher up the list?. Surely not, purely based on the judging criteria the Nintendo gameboy can be considered more influential than the PS3.

Like it or not, the PS3's position is quite appropriate I feel. I definitely see the PS2 or 1 taking the top spot though.

You seem to think both of those things are special and important to the industry when neither has set the world on fire exactly. I'm sure you'd love to have it at number 1 but that is never happening, bias or not.
