The idiots speaks the loudest. The smart ones are quiet.
Pretty much goes with everything in life. Celebrities, for example.

Well, before you hit puberty, there is this thing called "happiness & infinite energy" and how it will leave you once you grow some sperm.

So, use that energy to do something creative outside. Not just sit inside and waste all that away on POINTLESS GAMES! Those are for us mopey, older people.

Besides, the reasoning of a 13-14 year olds brain is very... Well, I can't find a word for it. You'll figure it out when ya grow up, looking back.
I'm sorry, what? He's 13. That's puberty, isn't it? He has definitely "grown some sperm" already.

OT:
I don't have a problem with 12/13/14/15-year old gamers because of their behaviour, but because of their voice. You may be a nice guy, a real cool one, even, but you better shut the fuck up until you've developed beyond your "my voice is falcet even when I speak regularly"-phase.

So feel free to play multiplayer. I can see how you dislike being showed into the "young gamers are idiots" box, labelled as a fool. I would dislike that too.

Handy cut-out-and-keep guide to avoiding online stress:
Step 1: mute all the mics.
Step 2: play game online and enjoy!

You shouldn't be playing shooters at that age to begin with. It says so on the box.
when did anybody care about whats on the box? I was playing Goldeneye at the age of 5 and everything then and after that had guns and a decent story and I haven't had the urge to kill when my bro touches the xbox. its just crazy people who do.
Not that I listened to the box either but I think a lot of people cared when they made an official organization and a rating system covering video games. Just sayin'.
The only people that care are the people who are very poorly equipped to understand it, i.e government officials who don't actually play videogames.

The age shouldn't be the determining factor whether a person is "mature" or not. I co-led a guild in Guild Wars with a 14 year old boy. He was quite mature, matter of fact he got a semi-moderating position on one of the IGN forums I think it was.

Not all kids that age are immature, just some. One of my nieces is 13 and she's quite immature, rude and whatnot, but thats her. I guess she'll grow out of it one of these days, once she figures it out. Meanwhile the rest of us have to put up with her. /rolleyes.

I have experienced kids on Ventrilo, blasting your ears off with whatever Metal music and whatnot they were playing. There's a feature to block obnoxious people like that, and thats what I do, if I have the permissions. Otherwise the owner of the server, will get a message from me stating exactly what went on and who the guilty party was. :)

I have no problem with you. I don't care about how old a gamer is just that they don't act like complete dicks. You seem like a good kid, game on!

Alot of people these day's play multiplayer. And i'm pretty sure we all have our story of some fourteen year-old(or younger) screaming in his mic about you actually killing him. This doesn't really bother me much, considering there is a handful of adults who can't coup with this either. But for some reason, adults have started to tell me I shouldn't play multiplayer because children ruin the online experince. Now, before I go on, I am fully aware that most american children are idiots, and that most idiots have mic's.But just because they are massive idiots, doesn't mean I am, so don't put me into this spectum of idiocy just because you feel like it.Some of us can handle ourselves without a cell phone and the Internet. We mostly live in Arizona.
That last sentence is humorous. :) Seriously though, I could care less if you play MP games. Just stay off of M rated games. That is all.
That contradicts itself. Almost MP Game is M rated. Besides, why should we?
Well the ratings aren't there just to look fancy.
You're right, they're there as guidelines, not rules. A guideline is something that is supposed to help you decide, while a rule is there to force you to do/to not do something. If the ratings were law, your comment would make sense. However, they are guidelines set in place by an independent organization with no official power that were adopted by gaming developers and publishers and retailers so the government did not make an official, backed up by law, set of ratings. Plus, as it has been said before, age =/= maturity.

NOTE: All that about the ratings is about the American ESRB. I'm not sure how other countries work.
You keep banging on about how "age =/= maturity" and while that may be true, the two are strongly linked. The trouble is that you can't quantify maturity so they have to resort to other measures, such as age, that you can quantify and make arbitrary cut-off points. While there will be always exceptions and kids who are more mature than their peers, you can't create rules and guidelines based on exceptions and have to generalise.

Personally, I dislike kids on mutliplayer games because of their voices and their general attitude and demeanour; they're often loud, lacking in social grace and impatient. Disclaimer: I know that these traits aren't limited to kids but they are way over-represented.

Well, I'm gunna join in here, and hope that I'm not going to get flamed too much. First off, I'm 16. I'd like to think I'm pretty smart. Not as smart as HG131, but pretty smart. I was reading at four, and reading a high school level in 5th grade. I do, however, believe that MOST games are given an M for a reason. I don't think you should have to be an adult to play them, but I think you should a least be a teen. Do you think its ok for a 9 year old to be shooting random people in the street, just for fun? Even if its a video game, not every child is gifted enough to know from the start what is right and what is wrong.

I'm glad somebody brought this up. I'm 15 and have been a serious gamer since I was 8, I only really got into new games or multiplayer (Guild Wars) since I was 13. I would be invited to guilds with an 18+ age requirement and after a week or so I would tell them I was really only 14 (when this happened) and they said that I could be an exception. When I had my first job at 13, my co-workers and boss actually thought that I was 16 or 17. (looking older probably helped in that judgement). My gr. 10 english teacher said that I was smarter and understood society better than most of the adults she knew.

I realize that most gamers will mention those annoying 12/13/14 year olds, and they do have a point. However, I've also seen 16/17/18 or older that have been more annoying. There's always exceptions to a stereotype. For example, I'm Canadian and don't have a polar bear in my backyard.
