You could ask an intelligent machine...

Wait, scratch that. They're biased towards eradicating all human life.

Well, crap, guess you're outta luck boyo.

There is no such thing as information without bias. No matter what story you're telling, it will be tinted by whomever reports it, writes it or views it, because what is being told is a STORY. Even if it's a so-called 'moderate' source, someone out there will find it highly biased, depending on where they themselves are on the political spectrum. This all seems like a practice in subjectivity, so there is no right answer to this question.

Unless of course it's on straight, undeniable fact, like 2+2=4. But that wouldn't make very good news. What DOES, however, is something that invites controversy or a strong emotion - and people are going to do this in every single way possible.

I'd say the BBC are one of the least biased. As someone said they are starting to slip but they are saints compared to most.

Actually, 2 + 2 = Fore

God damn, the media and its need to controversy.

Reuters is probably the best source on the net for pure news with no writer's bias ('cept for opinion pieces, of course).

The thing to do is compare sources that try to be unbiased, such as BBC and NPR, with sources that are deliberately biased, like WorldNetDaily [http://www.wnd.com/], Prison Planet [http://www.prisonplanet.com/], and Daily Kos [http://dailykos.com/] (oh, Internet, you make prejudice so easy). Compare their approaches, their emphases, their range of subjects. You can't avoid bias entirely, but you can try, and you can see what happens when people don't try.

I usually go with The Economist, although they're still biased towards capitalism. Although virtually any news source, or any person, is going to have a bias on an issue.

What kind of news is it anyway? It would help allot if we knew. If it's not political, I would go with your local FOX station. If it is political, than I'll quote Peach Wilkins from Bioshock "You, my friend, are FUCKED"
EDIT: facepalm own stupidity.

They have a very pro-business agenda. Anything outside of economic issues they're pretty good though.

Honestly, you aren't going to get any better than the BBC. NPR, PBS are also good choices.

Since this hasn't been mentioned yet, the Mainichi Daily is a Japanese newspaper (they publish an English edition) that I read from time to time that's pretty neutral. Worth checking out since it's not from 'The West'.

The onion.

Kidding, but BBC is your best bet.

Reporting on news itself is kinda paradoxical, It's impossible to be unbiased, because no matter what you'll show some sort of emotion when talking on it. I say it's a paradox.

Anyway, BBC, or various bloggers (sadly, I cant think of anything else).

edit: Yahoo news is fairly unbiased, I suppose but its coverage is normally pulled from other sources, and doesn't cover many topics.

Go with BBC, while I love CNN, they have a very clear left wing bias and if no bias is what you are looking for go with that.

Long story short: There is no such thing. No matter what news you use, be it news station, newspaper, or internet site, the person writing it will have an opinion, and that opinion will come through in their choice of adjectives. I, personally, choose to find the most conservatively biased version of the news I can, and then try to find the most liberally biased version of the same news story. That way, I can be sure to get every single arguement that both sides have for the same story.

And that is useful to this thread how? Consider yourself reported...
REPORTED IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR LAME.

Mind you, every western news media is biased towards... well, the west. It can't be helped.
Now, back on topic, im with this guy. BBC is a good bet, but no matter what you do there is always going to be some bias.

I suggest discussing any potential bias while reviewing whatever source you end up using.

Most new sources are heavily biased a certain way because they have to entertain people in order to get them to watch them so they can get money. bleh.

The ones that I can think of that carry no-extremely little bias are: npr, pbs, and cspan.

These are all publicly funded hence no need to need to entertain, hence no need for a bias.
NPR seconded, they make a very conscious effort to be unbiased. PBS is good too but it doesn't hold a candle to listening to Morning Edition with a cup of coffee imho.
